Back Pain From Slight Slipped Disc

I have a pinched nerve and slipped disc in my lower back that is causing alot of pain in my nerve roots. It?

If you are not already doing so, start the pelvic tilt exercise. See this link for detailed instruction: http://backandneck.about.com/od/exercise... I learned to do it standing in a doorwary for support. Gently, slowly, tilt the pelvis forward and up, by tightening the buttocks. Hold to a count of ten, relax, repeat. Do this as often through the day as practicable.

If your bed is old and worn, buy, borrow or beg for a new one. Meanwhile, use pillows to make a nest you can get comfortable in, or sleep in a recliner. Find a chair that makes you sit with your feet flat on the floor, back straight and leaning slightly forward. A secretarial chair (for typists) can usually be made to work for this.

Buy some shoes that really support your feet. Forget what they look like, they need to lace up and have a full arch support. I recommend SAS brand walking shoes.

There are several essential plant oils that work to relieve muscle spasm and pain, including birch, tea tree, lavender, chamomile. Starwest makes a blend called Body Calm that is pretty effective as a rub in.

Which two-wheeler is best for a slipped disc (back pains)?

Abhijit Bhikkappa , I have mentioned in the comments that it is best to avoid all two-wheelers if you have back problem like slipped disc.I understand, many people are helpless and forced to use two-wheeler due to various reasons. Only for those I would suggest any medium-weight motor cycle which has good shock-observers and seating is comfortable as per your height and weight. Now more important part: You can probably choose your bike but what about the roads ?? Porthole, traffic, speed-breaker (many times designed to be neck/back breakers). For all these you have to change you style of driving. Learn and practice defensive driving. Drive slower then you would normally drive. be extra careful while negotiating portholes, heavy traffic, speed-breakers etc.You will also need to work on your back and abdominal muscles to strengthen them so that you reduce stress on discs

I have mild lower back pain and doctors told me that a very slight or mild bulge is coming out of the L4 L5 disc. Am I eligible for AFSB? I have AFSB on the 23rd of September. Will I be able to clear the medical test?

See my dear friend , your medical condition as you mentioned may or may not be in consonance with the stipulated medical condition which you forget about okay. You consider all those things that happened to you while you visited hospital etc as a mere nightmare. Go confidently and attend the Air force selection board interview with your personality and not your physique. You may have it in you.

Should I go to a chiropractor if I have a slight bulging disc?

In short, yes you should.Bulging discs and most disc related issues are very common and most cases are in fact asymptomatic. If you're having pain and possibly pain or numbness and tingling down the leg, it means that you're nerves are being compressed.Chiropractic has been clinically and scientifically proven to be effective in treating low back pain from disc related issues. (This is more true for acute cases, if we were to only talk about rigorously studied cases; but I can confidently recommend chiropractic for even chronic cases). In conventional medicine, disc related conditions are usually cared for through physiotherapy. But physiotherapy is largely for muscles and ligaments and is very limited as to taking care of the spine. If that does not work, most people are recommended for MRIs, which ironsically does not change anything as to how a patient is treated through physiotherapy. Then if that doesn't work many would be recommended either home exercises along with pain killer/ muscle relaxants and or surgery.Chiropractic works because of many reasons. It is proven to give efficient pain relief, restore normal motion of the affected joints and even reverse degenerative conditions of the spine. I would recommend the following 2 articles for you to consider:Chiropractic Found To Reverse Spinal Disc Degeneration4 Scientific Evidence How Chiropractic Relieves PainIf you need more information, I would love to help. Hope all goes well with your recovery.

Can slip disc be ever cured?

Yes, why not. Lets take an example of a 20 year guy who was diagnosed with lumbar 4–5 disc buldging of 1 mm. He was having the worst tym ever, u cannot imagine. He tried everything from ayurveda to allopathy but all goes in vain. it was almost 8 months he was suffering. He was living in hell for 8 months, not a single piece of medicine could help him yeah pain killer helps to reduce pain but not for more than 4 hours(tym will depend on the power of painkiller). He has concern almost every doctor in state but no one could help him……… even physiotheraphy could not help him as expected. Let me mention u he cannot walk or sit without pain. It was like pain is the part of his life. He almost have lost the hope of cure without operation but MD was not his option. But suddenly miracle happen one day pain decrease gradually day by day without any efforts and it decreases by 80% in around a week .Now he could walk(run) can play sports and is now again living a normal life.He was non other than myself. So my only advice is DONT LOSE HOPE ………try try try it will help u definately and plzz dont go for MD unless n until it seems uncurable.

Is a herniated disc painful to the touch?

If i have a herniated disc in my lower back, should the suspected disc be painful when i touch it?... I suspect herniated because of my sciatic nerve pain in my right leg.. and Straight leg test, i dont think its my knee cause the pain is specific to a vertebra( or spinal bone) in the lower back.

Do herniated discs (in the lower back) heal on their own?

You don't necessarily have a herniated disc. You could have a more minor problem that has put you in a cycle of pain. The pain makes you tense, which messes with the effected tissues and creates even more pain.

If you have insurance, it is probably worth it to get the thing diagnosed.

I have several herniated discs that don't really bother me. But I have some old scar tissue that inflames and almost cripples me with pain for days on end. I was taking very large amounts of Advil which would help a bit. Finally I went to a good back specialist, got an MRI, spent over $6k. And am taking a drug several times a month that has almost eliminated the pain.

If you don't have insurance you might try changing your activities and babying you back for a time. Take lots of Advil to break the cycle of pain. If it doesn't improve I think it would be worth it to go into debt and see if there is a fix for your problem. Years of constant pain kind of sucks.

L4-5: Herniated Disc Sciatica pain MRI report?

First of all, it will NOT heal itself... Period.... not possible. You can try steroid injections to help with the inflammation, but if the disc is not herniated (just bulging) it depends on your pain level and nerve involvement (numbness or loss of use in a limb/digits) if a surgeon will operate or not. You need to talk with your doctor about your options. He may refer you to a surgeon to discuss your options. In my opinion, a neurosurgeon is the better option, rather than an orthopedic surgeon. You have nerve involvement and they specialize in that area. They may refer you for physical therapy, which may or may not help, usually doesnt. Do NOT go to a chiropractor!!! But it will NOT heal itself. I am a nurse and I also have the same problems as you with my back. Ive had it now for 4 years. Your body is an amazing machine and it heals itself daily, but it cant heal this type of injuries. You really need to schedule an appointment (if you havent already) and discuss. Im surprised you got the results on your own. Usually they make you schedule an appt with your doc to get the results for this reason... questions related to the results and options. Good luck!!

Back pain following lifting heavy object?

It's possible you herniated an intravertebral spinal disc. Also called a "slipped disc".

Between your discs (backbones, vertebrae), the intravertebral disc provide cushion and protection http://www.answers.com/topic/interverteb... These also contain fluid; they're the shock absorbers for your spine.

If a disc gets a tear or a bulge, it can cause pain. Lifting something heavy can do this.

Herniated disks can repair themselves. This is spoken from personal experience; I lifted a boulder, blew a disc, and spent three months exercising to repair it. My pain was immediate and intense, and my doctor's x-ray confirmed a disc problem, but my insurer wouldn't pay for treatment.

Of course, this could also be muscle pain. We have no way to tell, over the Internet.

If the pain is slight, applying heat and taking anti-inflammatory medications (Motrin, Aleve) may help. You can also do exercises for a herniated disc (search for "herniated disc exercises").

If the pain worsens significantly, begins shooting down your leg (sciatic nerve involvement), if you start losing sensation in your legs, or if you lose control of your bowels or bladder, see a doctor right away.

Avoid sudden moves, and do proper lifting techniques http://www.vcu.edu/oehs/fire/lifting.gif... This illustration shows the wrong way to lift a box. Or a boulder, in my case.
