What part of the lyrics don't you understand? One part or the whole song? I don't claim to know what Bruce was thinking when he wrote it, but I view it as a tumultuous relationship between 2 people. I really need to know the name of a Backstreet Boys song, all I remember is Kevin Richardson plays the piano in the music video, he rarely sings in it though, just a few lines. Of all times - Backstreet Boys, any day. However, let's appreciate that 1D has been around for a far lesser time compared to BSB who have been composing music for over two decades.Music:I think that a fairer comparison would be between the music they both made in their nascent years - this time around, BSB would win for a pure Pop lover like myself (somehow I just cannot compare 1D with BSB on the basis of Pop because 1D doesn't feel pure Pop anyway). However, a more lenient Popaholic would declare a tie between the two because, in all fairness, 1D has some pretty decent singers (and more than 1 Nicks ;-)). I've been listening to Incomplete by James Bay a lot recently, and I always love learning lyrics and knowing the meanings of songs. This song, though, is just a bit tricky for me to figure out the meaning. How can I better remember the lyrics of music?
In short, Yes. Sing it to remember it. But truly memorizing it takes more than just singing it with practice. TL;DR: Don't memorize words, but memorize sounds of words, much like you memorize (feel) notes and beats. I would later on realize which words they truly are when I start to read the lyrics while listening to a song. I never intentionally try to memorize lyrics as words. I feel like that's a lot more work than just memorizing/feeling sounds.I used to wonder about this when I was a kid. I grew up listening and playing music. I only found out in the recent years that I am able to memorize lyrics without "trying". Let me explain how this works for me anyways.I play guitar, bass, drums, piano and sing. Through my experience, I have developed the ability to split the layers in every song by instrument. I do this with every song I hear--whether I like the song or not. Because of this, I tend to sing along the melodies of each and every layer--sometimes dedicated to just one or sometimes switching around whichever feels more exciting to me.Whatever method works for you, don't stress too much about it. I found that whenever I "have" to memorize a piece (to play in a band or perform somewhere) I tend to have a harder time memorizing it 100%. What has worked for me is to immerse myself into the song(s) I am trying to memorize. I let the appropriate part of my brain soak it in.For me, music is the language of a particular portion of my brain--the portion that I probably can't control consciously. It is there doing its own thing--it even plays its own selection of songs when I am not listening to music. We've all been there. It's nothing special, except I embrace it and never try to get rid of the song that's stuck in my head. Let it do its job by not getting in the way while trying to memorize words.Lastly, try songs with languages you don't speak or are familiar with. I have done this with Chinese and Spanish songs before. It's quite a trip.
