Becoming A Teacher Without Degree In Teaching/certification In Nj

Alternate teaching certification with a Bachelors degree?

Yes, you can do it.

I was a Business Major on a Human Resources track. I wasn't happy in my business jobs and decided that I wanted to be a teacher. I now teach elementary school.

You need to enroll in a Post-Bacculareate teaching certification program at a local college. Usually, the schools that are well-known for education majors have this option. You may be able to take courses at night while you work during the day (aside from student teaching). They will basically take a checklist of courses that are needed for a Bachelors Degree in Education and check off all of the courses from your undergraduate degree that you have taken, and give you a list of whatever else you will need. Usually, these are just education courses. You will also need to take some Praxis tests, and all of that depends on what your state requires.

There are also alternative ways to get your certification, but in order to do that you need to find a teaching job in a location that is in dire need of teachers. Usually, this involves teaching in an inner city district, and even more spefically, middle and high school math and science. If this is what you want, you need to call the district in need of teachers, and ask them what the process is...they basically need to "sponsor" your alternate (or "emergency") certificate. If this isn't what you want to teach, you will probably need to enroll in college to get that certificate.

good luck!

Can I teach at a private school in NJ without a teaching cert?

Hello there!

Private schools are legally able to hire a candidatee that does not have a teaching certification. You are required to have a bachelor's degree and a background check completed.

Generally, it depends on the individual school's policy. Once they do hire you, you will then have to get your certification within a reasonablee amount of time (again, determined by the school itself).

Applying:
You do not want to walk up and ask for an application. Most schools have electronic applications which can either be printed and mailed or submitted electronically through a program called Applitrack. www.k12jobspot.com is a great place to start seeking out jobs.

Best of luck!

Becoming a teacher without degree in teaching/certification in NJ?

I have a Bachelor's degree, though not in education. I am currently working an office job, but I am ready for a change and would like to be a teacher (it was my original goal but I went against it to have a "more lucrative" job but turns out I really should've went with my heart). I also would like to be a professor one day, I need to get grad degrees but in the time being I figure it's a good idea to start getting any teaching experience.

Anyway, there must be a way for people who want a career change to become a teacher. Of course I need to take the exams and etc and get certified, but will I have to get a legitimate teaching degree? Many people stop their current career to teach, I'm sure you don't need a new 4 year degree. Any help/advice appreciated!

Is it difficult to become a social studies teacher without a degree in education?

I graduate in May with a BS in Anthropology and Human Biology. I would like to teach, but most of the positions tend to be in the sciences. Is it too difficult to find a position (while obtaining certification) as a social studies teacher in either NJ, Miami, or Atlanta?

Where can i get esl teaching certificate?

Truth be told, if you are a native speaker with a university degree in almost any specialization, and are a social person who is able to think and respond quickly to students' needs, you can be an ESL teacher. Job advertisements often ask for a TEFL (Teacher of English as a Foreign Language) or a CELTA (Cambridge English Language Teacher for Adults) certificate. The TEFL can be done in a classroom environment or online. The CELTA is more complex, and must be done at a training center.

However, aside from the most elite of schools (or those trying to pump up their reputation), the reality of English teaching is that the certificates are unnecessary if the teacher knows his/her stuff. Experience also counts, and so without a certificate, you may have to take lower paying positions at first. With certificates, you can generally get a better position right away.

I have been teaching English off and on for about 12 years now, and have been operating my own school for more than five. I only have a BA in psychology, and lots of experience.
