I'll take a crack:Best case:We negotiate the end of work and the end of death with fairness and good plans. Both are coming in that time frame--actually much sooner. Don't believe me--check out people like Google's head of engineering, Ray Kurzweil and his work.We stop global warming and reverse the horrible impacts we are having on the oceans, the wildlife and other ecosystems of the planet.We learn to live in peace and openness with few disagreements, less inequality, and better freedom and opportunity for nearly everyone.Worst case:A. We hack our genome and other planetary genomes into monsters with huge flaws and scary needs.B. We lose control of our environment and wreck the one oasis planet we have to live on.C. We devise a world with a few real winners and billions of losers. Right now I am optimistic--I think it is 60/40 in the balance between the two. I wish it were 90/10. It isn't.

My wife, my best girl of fifty years, my soulmate, has advanced Alzheimer’s Disease. Over the years that the disease progressed she has been reduced to an immobile vegetable existence. I know that the writing is on the wall, and that sooner or later she will no longer be able to eat and swallow food and, eventually as her motor reflexes gradually fail, she will cease to be able to breathe.But is is a very slow and progressive disease so there is no way of knowing when that time will come. I try as best I can to stave it off by continual research on the latest diets and medication for the mitigation of Alzheimer’s, and I prepare for her those foods that have been shown by (proper medical) research to be beneficial. I grow my own fruits, but only those that are reported to work best.I sleep in a bedroom next to hers, and I keep my door open so that I can hear every sound she makes through the baby alarm over her bed, and I normally wake up a couple of times in the night to check upon her. But I too have to sleep, and when I do Vladimir Putin could drop a bomb in my front garden and it wouldn’t wake me! So then, in the early hours when dawn is breaking, my first job is to go and check upon my girl since I am old enough to know that, mostly, when people die, it happens in the early hours of the morning.My greatest fear? That she could slip away from me one night when I am fast asleep, when I would not have held her in my arms as she left me and I wouldn’t know until the morning. I am not sure how I could bear that.

I have a 1999 Saturn SW2 with a leaking transmission. I was told the tranny filter is under the air cleaner. Is it under the box that holds the air filter. I would also like a price differential on best and worst case repairs. It means the best of all the ways it could turn out. If you buy a lottery ticket, the best case scenario is that you actually win. Or if you're in trouble at school, maybe the best case scenario is getting detention instead of suspension.

The best case scenario is that you get healthy again. That's kind of an assumption unless you won't ever return to good health with the condition you have. They warn you about the worst case scenario so that you do what you're supposed to do in terms of taking your medication, following their instructions, getting physical therapy or whatever. So many people don't follow the doctor's instructions -- they don't do their physical therapy at home because it hurts, they don't take their meds because they forget, they don't change their diet because they don't want to, they don't exercise because they're lazy, etc.

It is “the economy stupid” The better people feel about their personal economic situation the greater the likelihood they will vote for the party in power. The generic gap between Democratic and Republican ticket is getting narrowing. A few months ago the Democrats had a 13 point lead and today it varies from 1 point Republican lead to 5 point Democratic lead. The continual pandering to their base at the expense of the middle is hurting the Democrats. Trump has shown signs of growing into the job and his approval rating is steadily going up. If the economy continues to grow and he resists the urge to revert back to his earlier twitter habits he could see his approval ratings creep above 50%. If so, the Republicans will see gains in the Senate - maybe 5 seats - and minimal losses in the House. However, things can change in a short time and the Republican can lose the House and possibly the Senate. Today events are trending more toward the former than the later. But we will see.
