Best Australian Credit Card For Travel

Best credit card for travel miles?

If you're not worried about your credit score, don't limit yourself to a single card. Sign up bonuses can be very lucrative and you can probably churn through 4-5 cards in a year -- maybe more depending on your income. Chase Sapphire Preferred/Reserve and Chase Ink (if you have a business) are excellent. Also check out some of the offerings from Amex and Capital One.

Since you'll be living abroad, make sure the card you get has no foreign transaction fees. CSP and CSR will both cover you, as will most Amex and Capital One Venture. While I'm not personally familiar with Australian banks, generally no country has as lucrative CC rewards as US institutions. So just stick with a US Bank (like Chase) issued card with no foreign transaction fees -- although granted this might be tricky if you are going to be working for an Australian company with money deposited into an Australian bank, the transfer and foreign exchange fees necessary to pay off that US-issued card might significantly eat away at your everyday profits. But the sign up bonuses (typically $500-$1000) should still make it worthwhile in the short term.

Which is better to use while travelling, a travel card or a credit card?

I believe making the most of your international adventure is one thing and having a clear understanding of how your travel money card works is another. Making it a minimal hassle for you, here are the advantages you would have over your credit card if you choose a travel money card or in other words, a Forex Card. Axis Bank offers one of the better forex cards.Travel Money/Forex Card --Locked in exchange rates: Your travel funds are locked into the foreign exchange rate of the country you plan to visit. So if the exchange rates dive while you're on holidays, you won't suffer a loss of funds due to exchange rate fluctuations.Easy withdrawals: Countless ATMs across the globe you can access.Multiple currencies available: A variety of currencies (US Dollars, Euros, Great British Pounds, Australian Dollar, etc.) can be added to your account, but you can also make purchases in a different currency and have your funds converted. Most cards come with a backup card.Travel money card is not connected to your transaction account.Credit Card -You need to bear international financial charges which may vary from 3.5 to 6 percent with each transaction. Not all countries accept credit cards like North America. For the places where they don’t, cash will always be king. You transaction fee and the exchange rate may drastically impact your expense incurred. You have to keep track of different transaction done all the time.Hence, Forex Card or travel money card is the safest and most secure mode of carrying foreign currency abroad. Hope it helps!

What credit card should I get before moving to Australia as an international student from my native country? I'm turning 21 on August, and I'm moving to Melbourne in January 2019 as undergraduate international student.

Which credit card will be the Least of your worries. One of our sons attended the University of Melbourne for his 2nd term junior year: January - June 2013.He took with him his Master Card from his USA bank (Wells Fargo) and he took an AMEX card attached to my account. The issue is Not which card, but how do you pay the statement balance, in full, each and every month? For the Master Card, he had to log-in to his back account (in the USA) via the internet, at Least monthly and transfer money from his checking/savings account to his Master Card account to pay his monthly statement. Back in 2013 (and probably today) there were No banks in Australia that were the same as the banks in the USA.However, where would he get the Money to put in his checking/savings account????? That required that he had to have Me on his account as a joint user, and then I could transfer money, online, from my Wells Fargo account into his Wells Fargo account so that he could manage the money and pay his monthly statements. His tuition was paid through his US university and I was already set up on his account to manage those payments. He lived in a Dormitory that was run for the University of Melbourne, and we linked his monthly room payments to my Master Card, so that I paid it for each of those six months. When he arrived in Melbourne, he took with him $1,500 in Travelers Cheques and used $1,000 of that to open a simple bank account at an Australian bank near his university. Then he arranged with that bank that he could, at that bank, use his ATM card from his US bank to withdraw cash from his US bank and deposit it in his Australian bank with very small fees. Then he could use his Australian ATM card to get cash when needed. He kept $500 in Travelers Cheques as an emergency account, and he also had that AMEX card tied to my account for an emergency.Additionally, he would have been charged HUGE surcharges to use his USA (Verizon) cell phone in Australia, so he turned that one off, and got a local cell phone near the University of Melbourne. We talked with each other by Skype and Not by phone as Skype is free and phone calls are horrendously expensive. There is a Lot to consider when becoming an international student in a country where the banks may Not be the same as those in your country.Work things out with your parents. All the best.

Can I still use my Australian credit card when I go on holidays to Japan? What is the best way to access my money while I’m there?

I don’t know specifically about “Australian” credit cards, but most VISA or MasterCards will work fine. Better to confirm your card’s international usage with your credit card company before travelling.Always have cash on hand, as not all places (even in cities) in Japan accept cards or any sort of plastic/digital money. You may well keep your entire trip’s cash reserve in your bag/wallet. (No need to worry about thieves, scams or any of that sort.)About ATMs too, not all ATMs will accept overseas cards. But in my 3 years experience, ATMs in 7-Eleven convenience stores do accept overseas cards.Have a great holiday!

The purpose of your visit to Australia is not specified; however, RBI has issued guidelines wrt to carrying foreign currency while travelling abroad as an immigrant or for business or studies …….pl refer to the rbi guidelines: https://rbi.org.in/scripts/FAQVi...Coming to the later part of your query, my suggestion would be to look at the ‘safety aspect’ than cost factor; depending upon the purpose of your visit and the requirement of funds, you may plan to carry part of the amount in cash and part in travellers cheques or drafts; In case your concern is about the rate of exchange each Authorised Dealer has its own exchange rate, probably some research need to be carried out at your end, depending upon your requirements and purpose of the visit;I am afraid apart from the major currencies like GBP, Euro, Dollars for other currencies, a cross currency exchange rate might be applicable, where your eligibility in dollars is equated to Aus Dollars;Further since the exchange rates are highly volatile it will be difficult to know who is offering the lowest exchange rates/service charges; I am sorry I cannot give you a specific answer; Also refer toForeign Exchange while traveling from India, for more details;AUD to INR - Australian Dollar to Indian Rupee Rate - Foreign Currency Exchange rate - ICICI BankBuy Forex Currency Notes on Thomas Cook IndiaForeign Currency Exchange Guidelines

What is the cheapest bank/account/card for an Australian to access their money while travelling the world?

The cheapest has to be Bitcoin, but it won't be the easiest. Most realy banks are going to hit you with around 5% fee. I was recently trying to determine the feasibility of using Bitcoin, but the ATMs are not widespread enough. If you truly needed to save that extra few percentage points and could plan on getting to a bitcoin atm or finding merchants ahead of time it might work. When I travel I have my bank debit card for cash withdrawal, a Visa credit card, and a prepaid American Express. My bank card wouldn't work and my Visa credit card was shut off in Shanghai, China because they suspected fraud (even though I notified them). There are some countries where you definitely want a backup and if something happens you need to be able to call and get help with your account, this is where having an actual bank is helpful.
