What are the cheapest and most fuel-efficient cars?

Cheep and fuel efficient are conflicting criteria. The most fuel efficient cars by far are electric cars. For now, they come with a higher up-front cost, although the lifetime cost considering price, fuel, maintenance and resale, is about equivalent between electric and gas. But cost is not the most important consideration. The most important consideration is that we are in a climate crisis, and must be doing everything possible to keep as much CO2 as possible out of the atmosphere! Considering the rapidly falling price of batteries, electric cars will soon be as inexpensive as gas cars, so if you can’t afford an electric now, wait a couple of years.

Are there any modest, fuel-efficient cars?

All good answers but also keep in mind a large factor in fuel mileage is HOW YOU DRIVE! An excellent example of this was done on Top Gear a few years back. A BMW M3 if I recall vs. an economy car. They put both on the track and all the economy car had to do was keep up with the BMW. The results were the BMW got better mileage. Why? Because while it was putting around the track barely breaking a sweat the economy car was pedal to the metal trying to keep up. I've noticed the same thing with my Corvette. Big V8 but lightweight, aerodynamic, and is revving at only 1600rpm on the highway. Under such little load it gets nearly 30mpg! Now if I'm driving it hard fuel mileage is half that.

What cars are both fuel efficient and fun to drive?

Go-cart: minor fuel consumption, as far as I understand heaps of fun (not my thing), no danger to ordinary road users. If you insist on having your fun on public roads, think:Small: ignore the posted fuel economy - when you do your "fun" driving, fuel consumption is much higher than for standard "city driving", and it all goes to acceleration. The less mass you need to accelerate, the less fuel you burn. For its size expensive - small cars are mostly designed to be cheap, and as such they are missing elements that give cars good handling, breaking etc. Expect a micro car that costs as much as a full-size barge. Manual gearbox is the must. Few more comments:Buy a car like that from another lover of fun driving, and you will spend fortune on repairs. Either buy new or buy from someone who bought one for style. Make sure you are a good driver. In collision with a full-size SUV, you'll be creamed and they will need counseling. You'll need to rely on agility and acceleration to avoid troubles. On the positive note, you'll be mainly risking your life, and that is much less objectionable than endangering others.

CHEAP...Fuel Efficient Cars??

Yes, SUV's certainly use more gas the cars, all wheel drive SUV's use ever more gas. Smaller cars use less gas than larger cars, so that is that.

The Hyundai Accent seems like a good little car, with decent gas mileage or maybe a Elantra if you want a slightly larger car. It all depends on your budget, but avoid used cars owned by other teens , look for One owner cars with a service history , if you can, good luck.

What is the most fuel efficient car brand in France?

France, and the rest of Europe for that matter, have a great small turbo charged engine culture that does not have any stigma attached to it. There has been some resistance in the U.S. market for small, high revving four cylinder engines as they are associated with being slow. Renault and Citroen are great European brands with long racing pedigrees matches to high fuel mileage vehicles.
