Best Greek Islands To Go To

Which island is the best in greece ?

I would, like everyone else here, say that Santorini is the best choice. Try find a more beautiful place, you will find that very difficult. The greeks say that santorini is the most romantic place in the world, and thats probably true! On the down side, santorini is very expencive to visit. The sunset in Santorini is the best in the world, so the trip will be wirth the money only for the sunset! Another island that easily gets forgotten is Lefkada. Very beutifull island that have everything. Its close to the mainland and connected with a bridge and you can rent a car on lefkada and go around the island or maybe on to the main land. Paradise beaches, great food, very tourist friendly and nice sorroundings..and to a good price!

What Greek islands have the best nightlife?

Santorini Greece is considered to be the most romantic nightlife in Greece, since there are not many places in the world where you can enjoy exquisitely clear waters while perched on the rim of a massive active volcano in the middle of the sea!

What is the best Greek island that i should visit for parties and beaches???

The best beaches are in America. I like phat beaches.

What is the best Greek Island to visit, where you won't need a car?

I can propose an island but I am not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for.

There is one island about three hours from Piraeus port and is called Hydra.

Hydra is a very nice island, with many traditional buildings and nice beaches. You do not need a car because there are no cars. The island is small and it has no road network. It was built like that many years ago and it did not change. The only way of transportation are donkeys, sea taxis and of course walking. It is ideal for trekking but the distances are not very big.

Hydra is small but has many things to do. It has bars, clubs, nice restaurants, museums and many other attractions. Because it is small and not very famous, mostly Greeks go there, it is not expencive like Santorini and Mykonos.

I find it ideal for a few days of relaxing.

I can not really tell you any island that you do not a car because it depends on the person and what he/she wants to do. Most of the people either rent mopeds or use the buses. What I can tell you is that you need a car for sure in Crete, Rhodes, Chios, Metelene, Mykonos, Corfu and maybe a couple of more.

Have a nice time.

What is the best Greek island to visit in November?

I would recommend Crete. The weather is perfect in November with average temperature of 17 degree centigrade.Crete is a perfect place for those holidaymakers who prefer mixing leisure, adventure and cultural experiences. Not often can you find a place that offers so much opportunities in such a great concentration. The island, as the cradle of the long-ago Minoan civilization, offers you a couple of historical sites and museums to visit. Here you can find my detailed review of Crete: Tamás Reményfy's answer to What is there to do in Crete? Here you can find my 3-minute Youtube video about 20 of the best places we visited.Youtube: Crete Island - Best Places to Visit in Greece HDFor the lovers of mediterranean flora and fauna Crete is an ideal place with breathtaking landscapes, high mountains, various beaches with crystal clear water.Let me recommend some other islands, but I think these islands reveal their real beauty in summer when the sky is blue.Zakynthos (or Zante) is a small island in the Ionian Sea with the most iconic scenery, the Shipwreck (or Navagio) Beach, which is really a great experience to behold. There are a lot of other possibilities, watersport activities, nice beaches etc. The island is a nesting place for turtles, you can spot really big ones in the sea. Which Greek Islands do I need to visit?

Crete is an excellent choice but one week may prove a short visit.

Much visited islands by locals and tourists alike, are, Corfu, Rhodes, Santorini, Myconos, not necessarily in that order.
What would have been ideal was to be able to visit all of them since each one has its own merits of beauty and interest to be visited.

Since you are a family, island hopping is not suggested, mostly on the cumbersome boat rides and the money involved to do so.

Needless to say that, any island you end up, would be a memorable experience, simply because they are beautiful.

The links below will give you an idea of the already mentioned ones, which are only 5 out of the hundreds bigger or smaller ones.

What's the best Greek Island to visit in April?

Depending on the exact date, your experience may vary greatly. Easter is in the 24th of April in 2011, so during that weekend (22-25/4) most islands will be crowded with Greeks. Of course you will be able to witness many Easter-themed cultural events (countless of old traditions have been revived by the tourist industry in recent years). Hot Easter destinations are Corfu, Andros, Chios and Spetses.Another thing to look out for is the highschool seniors 5-day Spring Break, which falls in early April (well before Easter). If you're unlucky, you may find your hotel bristling with raging hordes of hormone-filled teenagers. In that case avoid Myconos, Rhodes, Paros, Corfu, Chania and Rethymno. If you choose a small island, it will most definitely be deserted.Weather will be fair everywhere but there is greater chance of rain in the west (Ionian islands). If you travel by boat, the Aegean islands are mostly affected by winds and your voyage may be delayed (from a few hours up to a day) because ports may be closed to traffic (this may happen 2-3 days in April). If you can choose to go by plane, do it.If you'd ask me where I'd go, I'd choose Santorini or Sifnos for a short stay. Go for Samos, Lesvos or Cephalonia if you like bigger places, Crete if you have 2 weeks to spare. See my answer in What island(s) should I visit in the Greek Isles? for general recommendations.
