Best Heli Company To Work For As A

Becoming a heli-ski pilot?

I first want to caution you that the career of a helicopter pilot can be just as stressful on family life as it is for fixed-wing pilots. It is true that you will usually operate out of one location, because helicopters do not travel very far. However, the career will present its own challenges. For example, helicopter pilots are likely to switch jobs more frequently. Furthermore, you will often have to move or commute a long way to get the jobs you want. The pay is generally less than a similarly experienced airplane pilot, while the training is more expensive. Finally, it is a long and hard road to get to the job you really want (for both). It's not like you take a few lessons, get your pilot license, and immediately go to work as a heli-ski pilot. The road to becoming a pilot can be just as stressful as the job itself.

Obviously there are plenty of people who are happy with their careers as both airplane and helicopter pilots, but this career will definitely tax your family life. Just be sure to carefully investigate and consider the type of lifestyle you will be looking at in this career. I second the recommendation of talking to heli-ski pilots if you get the chance. I have never done that myself, so I can't give you details of their lifestyles. I can tell you that it will take years to finish basic training and build the experience you need.

Someone else recently asked about heli-skiing and you can read my answer here:

Renting a helicopter for prom?

Does the place prom is being held even have a helipad? You have to think of these kinds of things...
But if you are absolutely sure that this is the way you want to go, there is a full service helicopter about 19.3 miles from Edwardsville.

Can a helicopter reach the peak of Mount Everest?

The simple answer to your question is YES you can take a helicopter to the Mt. Everest summit. But it has some limitations. Most helicopters are designed to operate at around 10,000 feet.Helicopters depend on its rotors to generate enough lift to support its weight. At higher altitudes, the air become thinner and its hard to get enough lift.As Mt. Everest summit is at 29,000 feet above sea level. The air pressure is about 1/3 rd there in comparison to that of at sea level. But we need same lift as needed at normal level to safely operate the helicopter. For this the rotors need to be larger and engine stronger with overall weight as small as possible.Highest Helicopter Flight AltitudeOn June 21, 1972 Jean Boulet of France piloted an Aerospatiale Lama Helicopter to a record altitude of 40,000 feet. He removed all the unnecessary equipments and he was breathing supplimental oxygen. At that altitude the engines broke and the helo has to be brought down with autorotation.Helicopter On Everest Pilot Didier Delsalle succesfully landed an Eurocopter AS350 B3 helicopter on Mt. Everest in May 2005.So in short you can take a helicopter to Mt. Everest, but its not very common. Links:Mount EverestFlight altitude record

What do you think is the best brand of backpacks-outdoor?

It really depends on WHAT you need the pack for. Different packs for different jobs. While the Dakine Heli-Pro is a great ski pack, you can't really take it into the backcountry and live out of it for a week. Gregory makes excellent packs for hiking, backpacking and fastpacking, but they don't have anything really specific for skiing and climbing. GoLite...good for fast moving people carrying light amounts of gear, but nothing you can beat the snot out of on a 3-week expedition. Mystery Ranch...awesome if you need a pack that will survive a tour-of-duty with a sniper team in Afghanistan or a smokejumper crew in Wyoming but if you want lightweight you need to look at another company. Osprey...more variety but leaning still towards the lightweight gear person. Mountainsmith....still more heavy-duty, but they offer wider varieties of packs and bags suited for specific missions. The North Face...a wider compliment of types but no do-it-all packs and definitely not the quality of any of the aforementioned packs.

I have four packs all for different things. My day-to-day pack is a Mounatinsmith lumbar pack with added shoulder straps and accessory pouches. My Eastern Mountain Sports EYT pack is good for a quick overnighter, a long day in winter alpine conditions or skiing, my Dana Designs (circa 1999) Swiftwater is my expedition bag, and my Eastern Mountain Sports Aqua-Day hydration pack is what I use mostly for ski patrolling. Four different jobs means four different bags.

My suggestion is to visit a reputable outdoor gear store such as an REI, Eastern Mountain Sports, or an independent pack shop where the people there know what they are doing and have a wide variety of packs to choose from. Try on a few packs and then decide for yourself what brand and style best suits your needs.
