Best Lt1 Mods For The Price.

More hp for a stock 94 LT1 camaro?

Being the owner of now two 4th Generation f-bodies. My first being a 98 M6 TransAm(totaled) and now an 02 A4 Camaro Z28. I've done my share of performance mods on both the TA and the Z28. Thro, I tried one of the Hypertech ppp3 re-programmers on my x 96 Impala SS. Never again, that to me was the biggest waste of $350. bucks, I've ever done. But, here's some info on the hand held re-programmer. Thro, I would suggest going w/ a custom tuned program from Tunercat or 'The Ostrich' from Moates.

Q: What performance "chips/programs" are available?

A: For the 1993 cars, Hypertech, Jet Technologies, Z Industries and Superchips make replacement chips. HP increases vary from 15 up to 30. However, in 1994 and after, chips are soldered into the on-board computer and can't be removed. Hypertech gets around this with their Power Programmer, a hand- held "computer" which plugs into the PCM module under the driver-side dash, and reprograms the stock chip. Performance gains are almost the same as replacing the chip. The programmer costs about $300, considerably more than the $150 - $200 you'd expect to pay for a replacement chip.

The Hypertech Program increases redline and shift points (on auto trannies) by about 500 RPM over stock, and it improves the fuel and timing curves. The cooling fans are forced to coming on at lower temperatures. Any type of speed limiter will be overridden. It can also adjusting the speedometer for changes to aftermarket gears (like a 3.73). However, it doesn't modify the partial throttle shift points on cars with automatic trannies. Thus, even with the programmer, partial throttle shifts will still occur at higher RPMs than with the stock gearing. But most companies can create a custom chip or program to overcome this.

The Programmer can also be sent back to Hypertech to be reprogrammed to take advantage of modifications like headers, camshafts, and superchargers. One other thing to remember is to run 92+ octane fuel with the chip/programmer. Otherwise the engine is probably going to knock due to the timing change.

Plus, there's some other tricks you can do to get some more hp out of the LT1 in the links below.

Good luck!

What does LTZ stand for, on the back of cars and trucks?

Not sure how we got talking about fords and whatnot. … but there's a bit of incorrect info here. So let's straighten some things out. Barring special editions, it's basically 3 different trim levels. I do not recall the “L” designation, but “S” is a level above base model, usually with cloth interior, but some upgraded features. “T” is the highest standard trim level, basically matching that of a cadillac. “Z” is SPECIFICALLY a performance upgrade. Z71, Z24, Z28, etc. 71, fullsize, off road package. Wheel flares, nerf bars, 4wd, lighting, and sometimes other upgrades, like skid plates, lift, lsd/lock, and so on.. 2’s are sport performance, with the engine to match. You can get all z packages in base trim, and even further stripped down. For instance, a true Z28 doesn't even have a radio, sound deadening or power door/seats.

How do i get my lt1 to 400 hp?

Okay - how to get to 400 horsepower. Have you thought of doing the full LT4 conversion? Look at Edelbrock's kit for this - you get their version of the LT4 heads and the LT4 intake. Upgrade the throttle body and MAF to the larger units, and check to see if you have the right rockers (I don't know what comes with the LT4 cam kit - did it come with the higher lift rockers?). After that, reprogram the pcm yet again to accommodate the additional flow/changes.

You should be able to get about 60-80 horsepower out of the mods. That's not just the best idea (in my humble opinion), is also an excellent foundation for any subsequent tweaks you want to do to get above 400 horsepower!

If you want to skip the LT4 complete conversion, consider an STS turbo; however, with your full dual exhaust, you have complicated the ability to put a single turbo in place of the muffler (as is done with the normal rear-mount turbo installations). The turbo is also a couple-grand more expensive.

Performance upgrades for 1994 camaro v6?

There's not a whole lot of options for performance on the 3.4L V6. They do make a hand full of performance camshafts for that engine, higher ratio roller rocker arms, higher compression pistons, underdrive pulley sets, headers, aftermarket Y pipe, cat back exhaust, etc etc

But the prob is the price vs. gain. The cam is like $275-350, rockers are $250-280, etc etc. End up spending 2 grand just to gain 30 HP

Rather than trying to get max power out of engine with performance parts it would be best to upgrade your chassis suspension and gear ratio, put headers and better exhaust on it then put a small shot of nitrous on the engine, or a low boost rear mounted turbo system or a supercharger.. Keep boost low 5# and it will work fine. Go over that and you will have engine failure.

Put deeper rear gears in rear end like 3.73

If your going to swap engines the 3.8L is foolish. Yes its a good engine but it's gonna cost you about the same as a LT or LS1 V8 swap, also same amount of time do do.

The LT1 or LS1 swap is pretty simple being as it was factory installed engines and parts from 93-02 interchange.

Best way to do the swap though is to find a wrecked donor car with good engine and trans.. As you will need engine, trans, wiring, sensors, rad., engine mounts, etc.

In fact the easiest way to do that swap is un bolt your K member, driveshaft, wires, exhaust, etc, lift body of car up and roll the whole front suspension, K member, engine, trans etc all out as one unit.. Then do the same thing to your V8 donor car and just roll the whole V8 K member, suspension, engine, trans, etc right under your car, let body down and bolt everythig up

How can i make my v6 camaro faster than a v8?

don't even waste with the v6 no matter how fast it is people are still going to laugh at you for driving a v6 camaro just buy a lt1 they pretty much go for nothing
