Best Smartphone Besides The Iphone Verizon Wireless

What does the "1x" network symbol mean on Verizon Wireless iPhones?

The answers below are right on. On the status bar of your phone you will see the symbol for “the bars”. As you travel you should see this change from 4G to 3G to 1X. This means as described in the other answers that your handset is providing the “best” data connection that it can find to deliver the Verizon services with 4G being the best and 1X the worst. 4G works on a lower frequency than either 3G or 1X so it is thought to be able to provide a more robust coverage for customers being able to penetrate buildings, etc. Keep an eye on these indicators as you travel around and you will see what I mean. The 1X indicator comes up more times than you would expect. The good news is that at least you have some data coverage on the mobile network. Each of the data services requires a unique base station and so as you would imagine the capital cost is huge to keep all three. Going to 4G was supposed to provide a path to remove the 3G and 1X infrastructures. Well not really. I live 1.5 mi from the cell site and cannot get 4G coverage in my house however I can get 3G. Interesting and they are talking about deploying 5G. I suggest that they get 4G working first.

How much would it cost me to start up a verizon wireless plan?

First of all, in order to get a contract, you have to be at least 18 and have a good credit score or the ability to pay a substantial security deposit. Second, if you are on your parents' AT&T plan, ending your service will trigger the early termination fee which is at least $175 less $5 for each completed month of the contract for that line.

Verizon Unlimited talk and text is $90/month. The mandatory data plan is $30/month. You are looking at $120/month plus fees and taxes.

The activation fee is $36. It is billed on your first bill.

/With an iPhone, you would stay on your parents' plan and share minutes and texting. You would have to add a smart phone data plan. You choose from 200mb for $15/month or 2gb for $25/month. The activation fee would be $36 if this is a new line or $18 if this is an upgrade.

If Verizon is the #1 smartphone service, why aren't you with them?

Because I have the #2 cell phone service (through a reseller) for unlimited Talk+Text for $10+Tax (USD).AND VERIZON CAN’T MATCH THAT ON A BET!

Can you activate any Verizon Wireless phone with Page Plus?

Used to be . Not anymore. Their bring your own device policy is rapidly falling apart as of January and February after three phone bans. Two intentional and one accidental.

January, they banned ALL Verizon and Alltel prepaid phones. Period. They can no longer be used on PPC at all. Supposedly because Verizon got sick of PPC dealers and wholesalers buying thousands of their phones up from Walmart, Best Buy and reselling them for Page Plus.

February, they banned all Blackberries, All Palm devices and many HTC devices. Supposedly because those phones caused all kinds of billing issues, tied up customer support and cost them money and time.

They also have a problem with their banned list and good list getting mixed up so good non banned phones are getting banned.

Here is what can be used: Page Plus phones. Straight Talk phones. Ampd phones. Regular Verizon non prepaid phones. Motorola and Samsung smartphones. Phones flashed from Sprint, US Cellular , Metro, Cricket, and other non sim card carriers as long as it is not a Palm, Blackberry or HTC.

But even then, phones are getting banned. The only way to guarantee whether it will work or not is to use this : http://www.kittywireless.com/pageplus/ch...

Who knows what they will ban next?

The way Page Plus is going, I recommend other networks that can activate Verizon phones including Mingo Wireless, H20 cdma, Air Voice Express, Black Dog Wireless and Lucky Wireless (www.mywaywireless.com). They can activate most any Verizon EXCEPT prepaid ones. Blackdog can also do most Alltels but not prepaid ones.. Only Page Plus has an unlimited plan though.

Which really , truly sucks. If there was one other Verizon reseller even with a more expensive unlimited plan, it would kick Page Plus's butt.

I used to support Page Plus. If you want an unlimited plan with byod, get a Sprint phone, get a Boost cdma phone, make an account and put the Sprint phone on it.

Buying a Verizon smart phone?

Well im not gonna answer your question directly, but hopefully I can help.

If you activate a phone with Verizon then yes they will know when they activate it what type of phone it is. You will not be required to change your plan, because you are buying the phone without the data plan. If you go on the internet, weather by wifi, 2G, 3G, 4G... or any other way, then Verizon will know, and they will charge you for every "bit" of information that you download.

I hope I helped. If you still have questions please let me know by adding to this question or posting another one. Thanks!

** I would recommend Virgin Mobile to anyone who is interest in getting a great data plan at a low price. For $35 a month you can get unlimited text and web/data and 300 talk minutes. The company uses the Sprint network for its service so it has decent coverage, but check if they cover your area. I would recommend getting the Motorola Triumph (which is very similar to the Droid X). The phones may seem expensive but remember that you are never locked into a contract, and with the cheap plan you can easily save a couple hundred dollars a year. They don’t have any stores but you can shop online or a select Best Buys and Wal-marts.

My Straight Talk phone keeps saying "Welcome to Verizon Wireless"?

Okay so my phone has been deactivated for about 2 months. I'm trying to reactivate my phone by calling the number and all it says is "Welcome to Verizon Wireless". Its a full on prepaid phone, and it isn't working. HELP! I really need it activated or else i just wasted all my money for nothing!

Would I get a better deal on a new line + smartphone at a physical Verizon store than through their website?

If you are going to buy the phone outright without a contract Verizon is the last place you want to buy it. If you are going to get a phone with a contract but not with their new Edge program then you should find a retailer that has a good deal. Like Best Buy has sales and Costco has good sales. These vendors will charge a lot less and still give you the discount for the contract. However, Verizon has a new program where you don't pay anything up front and you pay a monthly fee for your phone. There are benefits to all, but in the past buying a phone directly from Verizon would easily cost you an extra $100.
