Best Way To Build My Jeep 4.0

Rebuilding a Jeep XJ engine. 4.0L inline 6?

I just rebuilt my I6 about 1200 miles ago....total cost including buying 2 used engines so i could keep driving until all was ready to be swapped came to $1265.72 Here is an approx breakdown on time cost etc..This was for a 4.8L stroker build (the reason I needed two donor motors)

Craigslist:
4.0L motor $150
4.2L motor, trans and x-fer case $175

Titan Engine provided the stroker kit $500 or so don't have the receipt in front of me, had to call them, the website does not show kits, only fully assembled long blocks, but they do sell just kits.

Machine shop work was another $300 - 400, this included .120 over bore, shaving the head etc.

Once I got the motor back from the shop and ready to go I assembled the motor over one weekend (first time ever building a motor so I took my time. the next weekend was pulling the old and swapping in the new one. Then I sold the old 4.0L and 4.2L blocks, crank shaft from the 4.0 and some other parts for a total of $175, not much but hey it was something. I still have the old 4.0 that I pulled on the stand that I could either sell or build another stroker and then sell that.

All total i would say 3 12 hour days of non stop wrenching, but like stated earlier, I know what was installed and that all torque specs etc were done properly. And I learned how to build an engine.

I also pasted some links below to give you an idea about the possible stroker combos that you can get with the 4.0L If you are going to rebuild it might as well stroker it, the process is the same and the parts are the same price as well.

What is the best tire I would use for my jeep JK with powerful 600 hp engine?

I'm going to play along. I'm building a 450+ horsepower engine in a Wrangler (not a JK). People that build my level of Jeeps (including the topic of tires and sizes) are all over the hobby, make and model. We would never be asking this question on Quora. We'd either already know or turn to fellow Jeeping friends or forum acquaintances. Gearing, hp, torque, engines, transmissions, t-cases, axles, gearing, tires, etc are all things we know off by heart. There has only been ONE 600+HP JK built for non-competitive use. "Terremoto" built by Tony Pellegrino of GenRight.   http://www.genright.com/Terremot...That was a Corvette LS6 with only the frame and body remaining. A $250,000+ Jeep. What I'm saying here is that you don't (most definitely almost positively) have a 600+HP JK (unless you're a mall crawler with FAR too much time and money). So why ask the question?But....pretending you do have a JK that can take that big a tire, choose the tire based upon your 4-wheeling needs. Mud? Dry rocks? Simple trails? Not based upon the HP (it has no relevance). Tread design is what matters, not which brand or model. A previous poster mentions Micky T's. Great tires but they make a lot of models and designs. So do others. Goodyear, Falken, Nitto, Interco, etc etc etc etc. The list goes on.But if you have a JK with a V8, 600+HP engine, you already know ALL this.Another example of people not using research themselves and wanting the world wide weird to do all the researching and answers for them. "The silver platter generation" that wants everything handed to them with no effort by their own selves. It's ruining Quora.OP: when you have a REAL Jeep question, feel free to ask me. But if it's ridiculous like this one, please don't.

How long do most Jeeps last?

you’re Jeep will last as long as you keep maintaining it. I have two Jeep Cherokees, one 20 years old, and the other 21 years old. one of them has about 200,000 miles on it.But, I’ve run into diminishing returns on my maintenance investment. I keep my Jeeps running because I love them. not because they are the most economically viable option.Consumer reports doesn’t like Jeeps as far as reliability. (a Jeep will never be a Toyota Corolla. sorry) But a lot of Jeep owners find their Jeeps to be a different kind of reliable. As in, with a little duct tape and bailing wire, I can get this Jeep off the trail, and to a parts store where I can do a real repair. So, to end this answer in the same way I started it, you’re Jeep will last as long as you keep throwing parts at it, the same as any other car. But with a Jeep, the adventure is a lot more fun. And that is why many Jeep owners MAKE their Jeeps last a long time.

What is the best V8 engine swap for a 1997 Jeep Wrangler? I know lots of engines will fit, but what's the best option?

Thanks for the A2A I guess.Best.Ok, best what?Best as in highest power to weight? That would be a Formula One Engine. but it would likely be cost prohibitive.Best as in, cheapest? You’d want a junkyard v8 from an 1997+ truck.Best as in, uniqueness? Volkswagen W8. I doubt anyone has put one of those in a Jeep yet.Best as in, easiest to swap in? There’s a few already listed here, I do believe a Chevy engine would be the simplest, but I have not done it. Yet. I think any V8 swap would require welding, so that is a hurdle you must cross regardless. Personally, I would obtain a running vehicle, and then do the swap, and don’t scrap the old vehicle until the swap is complete.I suggest you do a ton of reading here, and then look around for a donor vehicle.Installing Chevrolet & GM EnginesGoodluck!

How to make my jeep louder?

What is the best year/model of Jeep that a Jeep Wrangler fanatic would recommend?

The newest you can get. The JK is far and away the best. They hold value because of the popularity of the model; unless you are cruising malls all but the most recent have issues effecting reliability and off-road capacity negatively. The first gen YJ is pretty much garbage without huge amounts of work that a more recent model would probably beat off the line. The older CJ is much better to build as well.It is bad as a commuter, and off-road its cost to upgrade and acquire make a cherokee, etc. far more cost effective (that was until cherokee models got expensive). Against a first gen a Suzuki, ranger, or other generic SUV is a better off-roading option and more likely to get you to work too.The Peugeot transmission literally can blow parts all over the freeway, and the engine has low power/ etc. The diffs all are tiny too. So your looking at 10 grand in work and a bunch of smog law style issues to get it going. The second TJis far better; its low powered and cost about the same as the third. Most owners and dealers charge for the jeep brand name…The most recent generation JK suffered from CPU and transmission issues up until about 2006. After that they are all pretty stellar. The jeep holding value is what makes newer always better. Why pay 6k for a TJ when a JK is 10. You'd quickly eat the difference in repairs, etc. on a now 20+ year old vehicle. So if you want a jeep for a jeep: newer is better money. They depreciate on the top faster than the bottom so find a break even example and buy it.But as an off-roader, the trade is that for that 10k I can maybe find a toast YJ or CJ and give it 8k worth of mods. That was what made cherokee models attractive till the prices got so high they are just as expensive. In the offroad world a cheap miata with 9k worth of off-road upgrades will beat a 3k cherokee with 4k in upgrades and a stock 10k JK.We don't use kits, etc. and its welding that wins.

Jeep 4.0l stroker deck height?

I'm building my first 4.0-4.7 stroker engine for my 92 wrangler. I was wondering about the low piston height in the bore with stock pistons. does it cause any probs. Emisions don't matter where i live. The only way i see to resolve this is custom pistons and cutting the block way down. seems like a waste of money if i already have the ~9.5-1 compression with the stock pistons and stock deck of the block. Other than changing fuel injectors do i need to worry about any other fuel management probs? I'm a gm tech but i don't know alot about the old chrysler fuel injection, will it just adapt from the o2 sensor like the old gm tbi systems, as they seem to be pretty forgiving to internal modification. P.S. I'm at about 4500ft, hot and dry as hell UT. We also see neg temps in the winter. Any advise from some one who has one of these would be nice.

Bolt on jeep 4.0 dohc 24v head 300 hp kit for $3k, would you buy one?

i found a guy making 24v dohc kits for the straight 6 4.0 engine that basically turns your tired old ohv 12 valve jeep motor into the equivalent of porsche or supra engine with as much hp as a stock vortec 454 & as much torque as a 350 or 360 magnum-with 5-10 mpg better depending on how you drive it. this all sounds swell to me and it would be very nice considering it comes with a custom intake manifold & short ram air filter, head, all the gaskets & hookups, & headers to match, and it would be SWEET to have the power to take on an evo or z28/mustang (the 90's jeep 4.0's are that light, look it up) & then tell them i dont nos, supercharger, or turbo, & that my mpg is better than theres & my all motor engine is better-BUT $3k! what do you guys think? just for the sake of arguement if i can sit in on & watch em run one of these on a dyno-is it worth the price?

How do I prime an oil pump in 1999 Jepp w/4.0L.?

remove the spark plugs and crank the engine until it reads pressure.....Or my buddy bought a really long flat head screwdriver cut the handle off and inserted it into a drill and manually primed it. If your oil pressure was all bouncy and out of whack prior to the pump it may need an oil pressure sending unit.

What is the maximum speed a Jeep Wrangler can go?

Faster than its safe to go in a Wrangler.I have always been a sportscar fan, having owned Porsche’s prior to buying my Wrangler. It took me a good bit of time to get used to driving the tall wide SUV at 70+ mph. It was a little unnerving at first.Years later, I still dont do more than 80 mph in my Jeep even with stock wheels because driving a Jeep isnt about speed or getting there faster, its about being an individual and owning a vehicle you can put sentimental value into and feel rewarded for customizing and personalizing it to fit yourself.I still own my 30 yr old Porsche, but my Jeep gets a lot more drive time these days.
