Help with Bio 20 question about pituitary gland?!?

B. Decreased urine volume

ADH binds to receptors on the cells of the collecting duct of the nephrons in the kidneys and induces expression of aquaporin genes. This means the genes are ultimately translated into aquaporin proteins. Through a biochemical cascade, aquaporins are inserted on the basolateral (blood vessel side) membrane and apical (lumen/pee tube) membrane. Aquaporins allow the cells of the collecting duct to reabsorb more water from the tubular fluid because the permeability of the collecting duct for water increases.

The peritubular capillaries on the basolateral side reabsorb water in the bloodstream, thereby increasing blood volume and hydrostatic pressure. This hydrostatic pressure increase within the blood vessels results in an increase of total peripheral resistance and systemic blood pressure.

Removing more water from the tubular fluid increases urine concentration and decreases urine volume.

Question ideas? 20 questions?

So me and my girlfriend are playing 20 questions and right now I'm having a brain fart.. Can you give me as many questions as possible, i have asked everything i could think of already before, and trust we already pretty much talked bout everything so don't be shy, give me some ideas. Thanks

Do all questions in NEET 2017 Biology come from NCERT?

Every aspirant is thinking about this type of questions specially when everyone is hardworking day and night to revise the humongous stuff before exam and aim to get through this coveted exam .Previous few years question paper analysis simply implies that 75 - 80 questions directly comes from NCERT textbook if a student has revise NCERT thoroughly then it is not difficult to get above 300 marks .Yes they twist questions very beautifully and students get confused very easily as I mentioned above only those revise thoroughly get very good marks.15- 20 questions which are not directly from NCERT but only the extended concepts of subtopics which are also given in NCERT , if you have listen your coaching classes and read the notes during your preparation you can easily rule out incorrect options and have pretty good chances of get the right one.If you haven't heard the questions before or no idea of any options then don't take risk leave it empty. Now finally suppose paper will come slightly on the tougher side and many questions will not come from NCERT then this is for all aspirants here you show patience and don't mark that questions wrong which you know then it hurts in end .Finally it is not the time to read anything new just focus on your revisions and weak areas.Believe me if you have done your preparation sincerely and show perseverance in tasks during this marathon journey then your hardwork don't get wasted in the end.

Bio 20 true or false questions on adaptation and change. Please help?

1. Adaptation and change occur as a result of mutations the survival of the fittest and natural selection.

2. It is now fairly well established that aquired characteristics (such as biceps of a weightlifter) can never be inherited.

3. The most frequent source of inherited genetic variations is the persistent use and disuse of structures to make an organism more efficient.

4. Darwins theories failed to explain the source of variability which was later foun to be changes in the structure of the DNA molecule.

5. Lamarck's theory implied that genes are influenced by what an animal does.

6. Environmental agents such as uv light are able to cause mutations in the genetic material of skin cells.

7. Harmful substances that cause mutations and possibly cancers are more harmful to body cells (skin) than they are to egg or sperm cells.

8. It is possible to find pests (insects) resistant to pesticides in an environment where pesticides were never used.

Ideas for my Biology experiment?

I'm taking IB Biology this year and during the last week of October we have to complete an IA (In-class assessment)

Its not a written test, which some of you may have thought when you heard the word "Assessment" (guilty as charged), but it's actually an experiment we have to conduct during class and we have to write like a 16 page report about it with all of our data. This is huge deal. Your report gets sent off to different "examiners" around the world and it's extremely hard to get a 7 (a 100)

So I was wondering if any of you would mind shedding some light on me? The experiment needs to be able to have at least 10 trials and it CANNOT have been done by anyone else.

Also, please keep this realistic. Post ideas that I would be able to conduct during class with the help of some of my peers.

Thanks for your help!

Bio 20 Charles Darwin multiple choice question? Please help!?

Three of the following are principles of adaptation and change formulated by Charles Darwin. Which statement was not formulated by Darwin?

A. Individuals of a species with favourable traits may pass these traits to produce the next generation.

B. some individuals in a population may show variations in structure, function, and/or behaviour

C. Every individual of a species struggles to survive under the abiotic and biotic conditions in ecosystems

D. Changes in the genes of some chromosomes (mutations) may influence future generations

What are some of the greatest scientific ideas in biology?

I'm not sure if this counts, and I am sure that this is not perfectly put, but the concept that all organisms on earth not only use DNA, but the codons in their DNA (generally) always correspond to the same amino acids in every organism utterly blows my mind. It's as if all organisms' cells were computers with the same CPU architecture -- the instruction set is the same everywhere. To me, this is yet another firm piece of evidence towards the correctness of Darwin's theory, as it suggests all modern life had a single ancestor (LUCA?) whose cellular machinery worked in this way.

Can anyone help me with Biology-Genetics Dissertation ideas?

Ok so I'm a genetics honours student currently trying to write my dissertation.

The question is "During a radio debate this year, Lewis Wolpert made a prediction which we paraphrase here. In outline, he said that in twenty year's time there will be at least one example where, based on the genomre sequence of a fertilised animal or plant egg, we will be able to predict accurately all the details of the organism that develops from it, including any abnormalities. To what extent do you agree with this claim?" And the dissertation has to be 3-4 thousand words.

Ok so I've taken the question to mean "will we be able to predict entire phenotype from only the genotype of an organism", and my prediction is more or less that this would be quite hard to do. The topics i was planning to talk about are - what has happened in the past 20 years, is this enough to predict the phenotype (and why not - e.g covering epigenetics, non-coding RNAs and genetic variation), what could happen within the next 20 years to change this (technology, systems + synthetic biology etc).

I was just wondering if anyone else has any ideas of good things to include? Any references related to this would be handy as well, though I'm hardly expecting anyone to have the perfect reference to hand.

Thanks everyone :)
