Birth Control Help 3month Period

I got my period at the wrong time while on the birth control pill. Is something wrong?

Exactly a month ago today, I started taking a 3 month extended cycle birth control pill (the brand is Introvale), so I'm only supposed to have my period every three months. Last Saturday though, I had some light spotting which turned into a period which, although lighter than my normal periods, is still going on today (so 8 days).

I'm 17 (I don't have a close relationship with my parents so if I can avoid bringing this up to either of them, that would be the best) and I don't know if this matters, but I have PCOS (which is the reason why my doctor prescribed me birth control) so my periods aren't usually regular.

I've tried googling what might be wrong or what might have caused my period to start after being on the pill for a few weeks. Websites are saying I'm either pregnant (unlikely, as I would be 5 months pregnant by now and don't feel or look pregnant), the pill isn't working and I need to change to a different form of birth control, or that my body is just getting used to the pill and change in hormones (I hope it's this one, but I feel like I wouldn't have a full on period if it was).

Have this happened to anyone else? Or do you have any ideas what to do?

Thanks in advance

Help, I've been on my period for 3 months.?

I used to do this all the time, especially when I was in my teens and early twenties. Mostly it was because of a hormonal imbalance and because I was prone to ovarian cysts. Some people have this problem because of fibroids, but if your doctor hasn't found anything, then that may not be the case. Some times my problem was just "nerves"; I tend to be a high stress personality and it affects my periods. However, if this is your problem too, your doctor shouldn't just keep letting you bleed. There are staggered courses of birth control and hormones. that can stop the bleeding, or you may need a d&c to correct any uterine imperfections and then you should be put on the pill for a while to even your periods out. You also probably need a vitamin shot. Bleeding for months at a time is NEVER normal. If your doctor doesn't do anything to stop it, change doctors.

Does birth control shorten your period?

I've been on the pill for 6 months now. Before being on it I was very irregular but when I did have my period it was moderately heavy and lasted about 7 days. My period has been very regular (when it comes) since being on the pill. For about the first 3 months on the pill my period would be super heavy and last like 6-8 days. The last 3 months it has lasted 3-4 days and has been much lighter. Is this typical? I mean it's nice especially the much fewer cramps but just wondering if it's normal. Thanks!

Birth control for 3 months straight?

I'm on Yaz and my doctor actually recommended that I do this since I have such difficult periods. All you need to do is skip your sugar pills. Yaz has 24 active pills, so you just take those 24 active pills for 3 packs (72 pills). Then break for 4 days (sugar pills from 3rd pack) and you'll get a light period. It's pretty awesome. I know some women do experience spotting when they would normally have their period, but not me so far! My period comes exactly as planned and absolutely no breakthrough bleeding or spotting.

EDIT - Yaz is a low dose pill, so it is very safe to do this method. Yaz actually has less estrogen in it than Seasonale and Seasonique.

Is it safe to take birth control pills 3 months in a row?

It is safe. Many people choose to do this with their birth control. You can take the medication filled pills back to back and skip the placebo week. I usually advise people to give themselves about 1–2 “periods” per year, but feel free to tailor that to whatever works best for your lifestyle.

I took birth control pills for 3 months and didn't take it last month. My period is 3 days late but I had protected sex. Is this normal?

If you are on birth control and stop using it for any period of time, you must not have sex until two months after you start using it again, protected or not.The reason for this reasoning is it takes one month for you to clear out your system and another month to ensure the birth control is in effect. So, you have every right to be worried. Even using a condom there is a chance that you might get pregnant, because you stopped taking your birth control.Even using birth control there's a small chance you might get pregnant.Let us know in a few weeks, I guess!

I have PCOS. I haven't had periods for three months. I'm not pregnant but sexually active. Is that an issue?

With irregular cycles like that of women with PCOS you are not regularly shedding the lining of the uterus. This lining can build up and become cancerous. Birth control pills suppress ovulation and cause a withdrawal bleed (not a true period) which can help but they have a host of side effects. It never made sense to me to treat a hormonal imbalance with synthetic hormones just to mask symptoms.I chose to treat my PCOS with a more natural approach. I found a NaPro Technology OB/GYN who used supplements and progesterone (from a compounding pharmacy so no side effects) to even out my hormones so I could have a more normal cycle. No matter the approach you take, you shouldn’t do nothing.
