Black People With Straight Hair

Can Black people have straight hair like White people?

Africa is a VERY diverse continent, so yes some Black people have straight hair, but it is definitely a rare trait.

Also, RE: "straight hair like white people"...Uhhh, what? Straight hair is generally considered more of an Asian trait. Yes, many European/white people have straight hair, but an equal number have wavy hair, and many have curly hair too.

Why do perms make black peoples hair straight, and white peoples hair curly?

Because they're black and you're white.

Why do perms make black people hair straight?

You must be from the south. the technical name is relaxer. Southerners call it Perms because thats short for permanent. Usually if you go up north and ask for a perm people will just stare. Blacks have naturally curly hair so they would ask for a relaxer. Relaxers last 1–2 months Relaxers are straightners that cause the natural curls in a persons hair to loosen. “The active agent is usually a strong alkali, although some formulations are based on ammonium thioglycolate instead. “ letting the relaxer stay on too long can cause over processing. Over processing can lead to dry brittle hair and cause hair to fall out. A straightener is similar.( Asians commonly use it.) It is not as strong as a perm, takes more time to set, has more Keratin and lasts 6 months. Actual perms are often not used on blacks. They're used on whites or races with naturally straight hair. They cause their hair to curl using a similar process. ( like a Jeri curl) A perm is a process where your hairstylist treats your hair with a chemical to alter the structure and permanently wave or curl you hair. It lasts 6 months.

How do black girls get such straight hair?

Well, first not every black girl has the same type of hair. Not all black girls have kinky or frizzy hair. Yes, it is a lot thicker than all the other races but a lot of black people have different kinds of hair. Some have really curly hair, some have really kinky hair. Others may have a silkiness to theirs and so on....... A lot of black people are mixed with something or another even if it's from past ancestors. Now with the girls on your campus it may be a variety of things. Some may be wearing weave which is usually straight and others may just have a perm in their hair. I'm a black woman and I can tell you from experience that when black women get perms it makes our hair straighter. I have naturally curly hair but I do get perms to straighten out my hair because I like the look. As for getting a secret to keeping your hair straight, I'm sure you already know how to do that if your not black in the first place. There is no secret a black woman has with that unless she has a weave, gets a perm, or like the old fashioned way which was to press the hair with a hot ironing comb but to do that a black woman's hair doesn't have a chemical like a perm to get the hot comb done. Hot comb is done on virgin hair which means no chemicals of any kind in the hair.

Why do black people straight and silky eyebrows?

The purpose of eyebrows is to drain water and sweat away from the eyes. and to the sides of the face. Any other type of hair besides short and straight would not be as effective. You start with all black people and then just narrow to West Africans, interesting. Not all West Africans have coarse nappy hair.

Black male with straight hair what do you think?

It seems that nowadays whenever you make a decision about your appearance, there's always this odd little group who automatically assumes that you're not happy about your original appearance in a biased way. (Such as when an overweight person states that they should lose weight, and other people bother them about "not appreciating themselves" and all those "inner beauty" things, or when a person gets colored contacts, or when a blonde dies their hair, or when a person wishes their skin was a shade lighter so they would have an easier time picking colors in clothing, and so on...) Obviously, people assume that all black males (and until recently, all black females as well) always have super-curly hair in stereotypical styles. When they encounter a black male with straight hair, they're quite shocked, then just decide that you have low self esteem as a race "minority."
Oh, and it might also be the fact that you're a male at all, let alone black. Out in most of the world, the majority of men don't really straighten their hair and are uncomfortable to even think about announcing such an "unmanly" idea to the world. Stereotypes do still exist, after all.
And I think your hair looks awesome :)

If most people including black people prefer straight hair on women, why did black people evolve curly hair?

The preference for straighter hair on women (and men as well) is a cultural bias rooted in racism. It’s not innate. Straight hair like white/European people had was considered inherently better due to simple racism. There’s a whole interesting area of knowledge about how black people in America tried multiple methods to make their hair more “respectable,” i.e. like white people’s: conking, perming, straightening, processing. In more recent decades, starting with the black power movement in the 1960s and 70s, many black Americans started wearing their hair natural, a trend that continues to this day, alongside many other ways of styling African hair, both old and new, curly, straight, and everything in between.
