Blood Pressure Drop After Smashing Finger

How can I remove dried blood under my fingernail?

Yep, wait it out. That is the only thing you can do. You could have the nail removed, or pierced with the needle, but it is doubtful a doctor would do that now. My dogs tooth went under my cuticle about 8 months ago, it had to grow out. The nail was damaged and weak, but it had to grow out on its own. No big deal. Get some pretty colors and polish that bruise away!!

I pricked my finger for a blood sugar test, but did not bleed. What can be the cause?

.That's very common, largely for reasons already described by Carol Linn Miller and Greg Duck. Recent physical exertion can also trigger catecholamine release, causing vasoconstriction.I have a very difficult time getting a blood drop when I prick my finger. I almost always need to "shake down" my arm vigorously to increase blood diffusion out to the fingertips before I poke myself, then I need to work quickly and poke the side of a knuckle instead of the finger pad to get a drop. Even then, I barely get enough for a reading. Do not squeeze or "milk" blood from your finger; doing so can dramatically change the reading.

My blood pressure reading is 143/105 is that normal?

No, its somewhat elevated
Blood Pressure Level (mmHg)
Category Systolic Diastolic
Normal < 120 and < 80
Prehypertension 120-139 or 80-89
High Blood Pressure
Stage 1 Hypertension 140–159 or 90–99
Stage 2 Hypertension 160 or 100

Which finger is used to prick for a blood test and why?

Generally, a good clinician will use the ring or middle finger, for a couple of practical reasons. The pricking device has to be pushed into the pad of the finger with enough pressure that the spring loaded blade activated and cuts to a certain depth. That being said:The thumb has more nerves and is used a lot more so having a cut there would be more painful and annoying. The index finger is also often used so it would be annoying. The pinky is thinner than your other fingers and as such there is more risk of the blade going too deep and injuring something more than just a vein. These are the main reasons most people would pick the middle/ring finger, although any fingers blood would yield the same test values, so that isn’t an issue. And of course if you are dealing with a neonate you would perform a heel stick where you prick the foot.

Blood Pressure 208 over 116 is this considered an Urgent Situation?

You need to go to your doctor, period. A blood pressure of 208/116 would be considered a hypertensive urgency, your doctor will give you anti-hypertensives and probably want to check your BP again within a day or so.
If you also have signs of organ damage (a real possibility with such a high blood pressure) then your condition would be considered a hypertensive emergency and your doctor will probably want to admit you to the hospital.

A blood pressure of 208/116 is nothing to mess around with. Serious and irreversible damage is happening to your eyes, kidneys, and coronary arteries as you read this. You are also at risk for hemorrhagic stroke while your blood pressure is at this level.

I smashed my fingernail and it is purple. I heard I should heat a paper clip and melt a hole through the nail.

You have a 'subungual haematoma' or bruise under your nail! You should leave it alone unless it really is unbearable and the bruise covers more than about half of your nailbed. Trephining, or making a hole in your nail, is not pleasant and could potentially let in infection and give you more problems than it cures (especially if you have cracked the bone under it as well)- can also only be done when the injury is fresh and before the blood clots up.
Best to take some painkillers and grin and bear it

How much does it hurt to drain blood from the nail?

Hey, about 5 days ago I dropped a ski boot on my toe and the doctor put me on painkillers for it. It doesn't really throb anymore, but it still is blue full of blood under the nail, and it's extremely sensitive: I can't put a sock on. I want it to be better by New Year's, so I am going to a surgeon to get it drained. How painful is it, and which method is the best? Thanks!
