Book Or Movie With A Similar Theme To 1984

What are some books with similar themes to 1984?

Fahrenheit 451 was another very nice dystopian novel :) Clockwork Oranges is also really good.

Books or movies similar to Animal Farm and Lord of the Flies (power abuse/corruption)?

Soylent Green- movie

What are some other books similar to themes in Anthem and 1984?

A Time of Changes by Silverberg is about rejecting the concept of self. This Perfect Day by Ira Levin is a dystopian novel.

Which books are similar to "1984" which have the same dystopian theme?

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley  These two books are compared, a lot.In Brave New World, a government uses drugs, condioning, and a cruel caste system to keep it's society stable. The drugs are depressants that work like alcohol(minus the addiction and hangover..), conditioning is children being forced to listen to propaganda messages in their sleep to make them shallow and superficial (I.e, "more stitches means less riches").. And also, children engage in erotic play to make them loose with sex once they get older. And the cruel caste system... Injecting alcohol into embryos, depriving fetuses of oxygen, all kinds of stuff like that to stunt the development of the person who is then organized into the caste. There is also mass cloning involved.    The main  difference between 1984 and BNW is that Ingsoc works against it's people, but the BNW... world works for it's people. They're two very similar yet incredibly different reads, there is no other answer so obvious as this.

What are songs that relate to the book/movie 1984?

The Eurythmics were slated to do music for the most recent version of the film, but for various reasons, almost none of their music appears in the versions of 1984 I've seen. However, the group did release a CD called "For the Love of Big Brother"...it's a bit hard to track down, but not impossible.

Another I'd suggest is "2112" by the group Rush. It's loosely based on Ayn Rand's novel Anthem, which also deals with a dystopian society.

Books similar to One Flew Over Cuckoo's Nest?

Hey, do you know any books with similar themes to Cuckoo's Nest?
Not the mental institution theme, more like anti-conformism (rebels), totalitarianism, dictators, authority, dominating regime, maybe even leadership, etc...or any other themes you can think of (but please state the theme along with your suggestion)

Also i've already read 1984 so i cant do that even though it's sooooo similar!

What other books are similar to "A Clockwork Orange" both in plot and themes? (i.e. amoral youths run amok in a near-future society)

I reckon the theme is not only what you say. The theme also is free will vs conditioning -- Alex being conditioned to behave in a certain way as a response to certain stimulus. That behavior was not his free will but a conditioned reaction. If you go with the idea that Orang means man in Malay, then Clockwork Orange could mean a Man that works like clock -- Responds mechanically to stimulus, while subjugating his free will for the betterment of society, since his free will leads to violent reactions. With this extra dimension in theme, you might have a good chance in finding books you are looking for.

What movies are related to the book 1984 by George Orwell?

Most dystopian movies borrow at least somewhat from 1984.Obviously the most relevant movie is the film adaptation of 1984 starring John Hurt. It’s a very well-made & accurate adaptation of the novel.V for Vendetta is another movie with a dystopian world that is very similar to the one in 1984. It’s probably the one that’s the most closely related, out of all the dystopias. This one is a show, not a movie, but The Handmaid’s Tale also has elements to it that are somewhat similar to 1984, though that world’s dystopia is based more on religious extremism rather than political authoritarianism.Something like The Hunger Games is also loosely related, as it’s another story set in a dystopian world controlled by totalitarian government, and the theme of “surveillance” is common in both stories (though The Hunger Games uses that idea in a very different, and pretty unique, way). The whole “surveillance” theme is also significant in the movie Minority Report. The only other examples I could think of are ones that have already been mentioned, like Brazil and Equilibrium.

Why has the book 1984 not been converted to a movie?

The movie "V for Vendetta" was a close tribute to 1984 and quite similar in the themes as well. The movie is quite brilliant, even though not a direct adaptation of the novel 1984. Maybe it hasn't been made into a movie, because of the great expectation that would be attached to such an adored classic that has been critically and commercially successful. Ditto for the other classic by Orwell- Animal Farm.Edit- As Sam Sandi has written, there are two movies but I was focusing on the popular movies by big budget production houses.
