Book Tittle For My Book

Can two books have the same title?

Yes. It is possible (and quite common) for two or more books to share the same title. It is best to avoid this situation unless you are positive that there won't be any confusion between the two titles. (Perhaps one title is very old and out of print; or the the two books are on radically different topics.) If the two books are on the same topic and are both in print at the same time, confusion may occur, leading to frustration for everyone involved in the book publishing process, including the potential book buyer. The only time when it is not possible to re-use the title of an existing book is if that title contains a trademark. Note: It becomes possible to register a trademark related to a series of books once two or more of the books in that series have been published. For example, I was able to register the trademark THE MOTHER OF ALL for the various books in my pregnancy and parenting series once first two titles, The Mother of All Pregnancy Books and The Mother of All Baby Books, had been published. I could not have attempted to trademark the books if I had only written a single title.See related document at US Patent and Trademark Office:http://www.uspto.gov/trademarks/...

Title for my crime/mystery book?

I'm writing a book about an FBI profiler and her partner. They will be solving various crimes from murder to government conspiracies. There will be an underlying theme of romance. I have the book halfway written, but I can't think of a title! Does anyone have any good, non-cheesy titles?

How do I decide on a book title for the book I'm writing?

By trying out a couple of dozen possibilities and asking everybody you know what they think. With some of my books, the title came first like a cartoon bubble appearing over my head. “Bad Spelling” about a witch who can’t cast spells. “Midnight Oil” about a magic oil which only works at midnight on the Summer Solstice. “Scotch Broom” about my witches going to Scotland and a couple of them going via flying broom. All of those titles came to me before I had a plot.In general, two or three words are best. I’m a big fan of 2-word titles (obviously). Something in the title should imply the genre. Some movies up for the Oscars right now may be great, but the titles don’t give me enough information to pique my interest. If they weren’t Oscar contenders, I’d never bother to see what they were about. I’d not bother with “Moonlight” or “Lion” or “Elle” for example. “Hidden Figures” didn’t appeal to me. I’d never have guessed it was about women in the NASA space program. If I didn’t know “Fences” was an August Wilson play, it wouldn’t catch my attention. “Manchester by the Sea” made me think “oh, gawd, old British ladies having tea.” A title is definitely important. It’s the first impression that counts.
