Bought A Car From Perry

Is it bad if a new car battery is tipped over?

Many good answers already, but here are some details you really need to be aware of and take care of as well.

1. The clear liquid in the battery that spilled out is the battery acid. This is sulfuric acid is very dangerous and could produce a gas which would be dangerous if inhaled into your lungs. It will also eat through most fabrics and begin to corrode metal. So, first things first, you need to clean up the acid spilled first. Remove all stuff from the trunk carefully to as not to get any on you. Check everything for contamination of acid as it will need to be cleaned too. You'll need to neutralize the acid with an alkaline mix of water and baking soda or powder. I usually use about a tablespoon (or a little more) of baking soda per cup of water, mix well. Pour liberally over the area with acid (probably should cover the entire trunk bottom to make sure you don't miss any), you should see a lot of foamy type of bubbling as it works. Carefully soak up the wet areas with paper towels (wear protective gloves) and throw away. Repeat as many times as necessary until no more bubbling reaction is observed. Check under the carpet too (if there is any in trunk, personally I'd throw out the carpet and replace it and use the baking soda mixture on the metal areas, check in the spare tire area too) and in any low areas of the trunk for any excess liquids.

2. Never, ever leave a lead-acid battery in an enclosed car for any amount of time more than necessary to get it home or to the car that needs it. Too much can go wrong. And always support and protect it from falling over.

3. Since much of the acid was probably lost, the battery will probably not last as long as it normally would have originally. You could try to take it back and see what happens or you could pop off the caps of the battery and fill the individual reservoirs with water (distilled is preferred due to the contaminates in regular water that will potentially shorten batter life) so that the acid level is just touching the bottom of the plastic tube in the holes.

Best of luck.

Really? Wow. I don't know why not, but I'd make sure to check everything because that acid had to go somewhere and I wouldn't want it just laying around undetected. It would make me really nervous.

Should I buy my 16-year-old daughter her own car?

I’m wondering the same thing for my 16 year old son. I was planning on making him pay for 1/2. Although he knows we can afford it. The car is a very basic manual car. I want him to learn to drive standard. We live in canada and most cars are automatic. However they also have their Swiss citizenship so it is possible they will live or go to school in Switzerland or Germany. manual cars are common there. My son is very responsible. He is a straight A student and he doesn’t party. He spends his free time at the gym. He doesn’t really need a car. However i want to buy him one. Just because I can. I grew up having to buy everything myself and working my ass off. I don’t want that for my kids. My husband grew up in a very wealthy family but his parents didn’t give him anything. As a parent I would like to find the right balance of not spoiling them yet giving them some luxuries that I didn’t have the benefit of as a kid.

Why do people buy new cars these days?

Two reasons. I’ll give the reasonable one first. They “buy” the cars by leasing. Leasing is not always a great deal, but sometimes it is. Car companies want to make sure their new cars make it into the market, and have use subsidized leases as a way to do so. This applies to higher end cars too. For example, Mercedes subsidized it’s leases with a very specific credit card MB Amex Platinum). Now the less reasonable one. Some people buy new cars because the money doesn’t matter. Simple example: If you make $200,000 a year, live in an area with a reasonable cost of living, and have no kids, you can buy a brand new Honda Accord for $30,000, and not care at all if you lose a few thousand dollars in depreciation. Especially if the plan is to keep the car for 5 years or more. The total cost of ownership is not all that different, as you have a new car warranty, as well as everything else being new (tires/wipers/battery/brakes).Now imagine you are a 1%er. (Top 1% of household income in the US). That means your household makes at least $465,626. Now the cost of an Accord *really* doesn’t matter. Or 2 Accords. Let’s say there are 100,000,000 families in the US. That’s 1 million families that are in the 1%, and probably all car owners.

While buying a used car on auto trader, is there any room to negotiate the price?

Yes, BUT…..Do your research first. When you outright ask the actual owner of a car for a discount upfront they hear, “Your car isn’t worth that”. You also have to understand if they knock money off before you see the car, what’s likely to happen if you get there and find a scratch they didn't describe? You’re going to ask for more money off, right? It creates for them the double discount, so don’t always take reluctance for stubbornness. Read the persons response and you can tell if they are fair and likely to make a deal or if they will stand firm on their price. If you are going to ask for a discount as for a specific number and be able to state how you came up with that number. If the person is firm they won’t care what you know, but if the person was willing to move they likely won’t be ready to counter what you have discovered as far as market value and you will probably get the price you want.Give a little get a lot!-Autohitch

Do you buy new or old cars?

I buy New!Used cars are not reliable and the owners/brokers doesn’t tell the real problems of used cars. When the car looks great in outer and with low price, its definitely a crap product. Most car dealers cheating customers.Even if you go branded used car dealers (most car companies have used car showrooms) they give you the price that exact 10–20% only lowest from the new one with the reason that they checked the car fully and give you 1 year warranty. For Instance, in Cuddalore ABT Maruti Used Car dealer taggedAlto 800 2015 model price as 2.75lakhsNew Alto 800 2018 model price is 3.28lakhsWhich one you will go for?

Where is the vehicle speed sensor on a 97 Dodge Grand Caravan, 3.8L, 2WD? ?

I could find the input speed sensor and the output speed sensor on transmission but I just couldn't find the vehicle speed sensor. My van had a P0500 code for failed vehicle speed sensor. I bought the vehicle speed sensor from autozone and they also have listing for transmission speed sensor (input and output) so I am sure they are different but I couldn't locate it. Their location listed for it is just: Transmission / Transfer case without any picture help. I've looked for hours for it. I am able to get picture of the location for the input and output speed sensor on the transmission and they looked different from the vehicle speed sensor. I've looked for a long time but still unable to find it. Please help.
