Box Dying Entire Hair That Has Highlights

Can I highlight my hair, after dying it in the same day?

Technically…yes you can.If you watch professional hair dye videos (like I do [Guy Tang is my favorite!]) they will often dye the hair and then highlight directly after. However, they usually have much more training and better products than can usually be obtained at home. Therefore, I personally wouldn’t suggest that. Whenever I double process my hair, I’ll dye it, wait a week or so (and deep condition plenty) and then highlight it.Nonetheless, if you want to try it in the same day, pay attention to your hair. If it starts, y’know, melting or breaking…maybe stop. In all seriousness, do your research and hopefully you’ll be fine.Good luck! :)

Can you highlight box dyed hair?

Most box dye does not contain metallic salt, however a small percentage of them do. When hilighting over hair dye you must use bleach because a lighter dye cannot lighten a darker dye. When bleach comes into contact with metallic salt a chemical reaction occurs and the hair will literally go up in smoke and melt off. Do a test strand first if you have box dye on your hair .

Can you dye your hair over highlights?

You're hair will not fall out from dying it over the highlights. The only thing that is going to really hurt your hair is bleaching it constantly. If you don't like the highlights most salons will fix your hair for you if you do not like what they have done. If not you can go to the store and buy a box of color yourself and it will come out just fine. If your highlights are really light then you may have to do the color once and then in a week color it again so that it stays to the hair. I recently colored my hair from a bleach blonde to a chocolate brown and the color has stayed quite nicely.

Keeping Highlights while Dying Hair?

So I've recently dyed my hair from the result of sun-in (which gave me gorgeous highlights) to dark golden brown. Since my hair was dirty blonde from the sun-in, theme hair didn't get as dark as the color advertised on the box, which I knew would happen but I was sort of P.O.ed because I had a perfect picture of the dark hair in my mind. Anyways, the blonde highlights from the sun-in are still pretty much the same color and look really good with my new hair color. Tomorrow I'm dying my hair a darker brown so it will be the right shade but I want my highlights to still be as visible as they are now (not the blonde color they are now, but maybe a dark gold/honey color?). Is it possible for my hair to turn out the way I want it or will it dye the highlights dark, too?

Thanks!

Can you put a box hair dye in blonde highlighted hair?

Yes, you can, but be careful. It depends on how dark your natural color is and how heavy and blonde the highlights are.Haircolor is designed to be used on hair with color in it. Highlights can lighten hair to a point where there’s very little, if any, natural pigment. If you have light blonde highlights, the color you add must contain gold (two parts yellow and one part red). Level 6 light golden brown. It it’s not dark enough, you can do it again. If it’s too dark, you’re in trouble.Use a deposit only with 10 volume. No need to lighten. The color may grab on the blonde hair. Especially on the ends. Always apply to clean damp hair. If you’re hair is really toast, put a little conditioner on first.See my video, Why Apply Dry, When Wetter is Better.

How do I dye black hair with brown highlights?

Unfortunately, when your hair is dark, there aren’t many removable/reversible processes available for you, especially not ones that lighten your hair. However, that’s not to say you couldn’t hide it.If you have long hair, one option could be clip or braid in extensions/streaks. Sure, there are many cheap ones, but if you get a nice set put in professionally, then you could have a similar color to that, and totally removable! You can also dye the underneath a lighter brown, and then pull up, part, tie or braid your hair a different way than you normally do, and then bang! Around family and school, your hair is black, but for anything else, your hair is the beautiful chestnut brown you’ve always wanted. Like this, but without the crazy colors:It’s, finally, important to note that if this was for prom, a photo shoot, or any other similar occasion, it isn’t hard to box die your hair right back to black when everything is said and done. Pricy, but worth it.

Is it ok to dye your hair with a highlight kit from home?

Dying your hair with a highlight kit is just like bleaching your hair with any hair bleach. You can do this with a bleach kit at home, no need to use the highlighting stuff (you probably wont have enoug to do your whole head unless you have short hair already). I've used highlight kits to bleach huge chunks of my hair, without using any foils or the cap. The best way to bleach it would be to go to sally beauty and get a bleaching kit, Manic Panic Flash Lightning Hair Lightening Kit is one I have used from there. The issue with doing your whole head tho is you're going to get noticeable roots, all over, and soon, and have to bleach your roots every 6 weeks or so. That can lead to damage and breakage, and you have to be really careful to not try to rebleach the already bleached hair. This is why most women will just do highlights instead, so roots are less noticeable. Also, you dont say what color your hair is already, but I guess blonde. Make sure you don't let your hair lighten past the pale yellow stage when bleaching, or you could wind up with white hair, which is one step away from breaking off at the root and turning into a gummy mess. I want to dye my hair a lighter blonde. My hair is currently a dirty blonde with natural highlights. How should I go about doing this? Should I bleach my hair or buy a lighter colour hair dye?

Let me explain the inside process and the difference between dyeing and bleaching. When you bleach your hair, the bleach penetrates your hair shaft and pulls out color from the inner pores. Whereas dyes penetrate the outer shaft and add color to the inner pores. So assuming you start with dirty blonde hair and wish to transition to blonde hair color (take a close look at the colors and be sure you know the difference. It took me a long while to pinpoint the different shades of blonde), you will be going from a darker shade of blonde to a lighter shade of blonde. Hence you will have to bleach your hair. You can bleach your hair at home or professional. If you're relatively inexperienced, I suggest the latter because professional stylists do a really good job compared to what we do at home. Let me know if you have any additional questions or need any help. I'll reply at my earliest :)

Dying hair red 2 days in a row?

well i bought 2 boxes of loreal hicolor hilights in magenta and 2 weeks before that i have dyed my hair red hot by the same brand except it wasnt highlights.
so last night i died mostly underneath my hair kinda like thick highlights because i was scared if i dyed my whole head it would come out bright red. but i liked the color so i was planning on dying the top part of my hair and the sections i havent dyed magenta.
the thing is i've used a volume 40 developer for all the times i've died my hair red because my natural hair color is like a really dark brown.
and yesterday i only bought 2 bottles of 40 developer and 2 bottles of hair dye and i used up a one whole on sections of my hair.
ANYWAY is it safe to do that or should i wait to dye the undyed parts tomorrow?
i havent shampooed my hair in few days ive only conditioned it.
i did also buy a deep conditioner last night for damaged hair but it doesnt say anything about colored hair
so i was wondering if i could use that instead of conditioners for colored hair since im out on that.

please tell me what you think.

and right now my hair isnt in too horrible of a shape. i mean the ends of my hair is kinda dead but its still kinda soft since i have really thick hair strands.

but yeah please give me some advice. i need this redyed by saturday and i dont have any time to dye it saturday.
