I have braces and my one tooth hurts!?

I've had my braces for a few weeks now, well, over a month, and they don't hurt anymore. Yet, my one tooth hurts near the bracket. I'm not sure if this is because it is getting pushed and pulled by the bracket/wire, but it is really tender to the touch, and bite. I'm really worried.. I really hope it isn't a cavity. Could anyone tell me what it could possibly be? Thanks in advance!

One month after Braces, tooth hurts?

So, I got braces a month ago, and I passed/suffered through the "Braces Pain" that you have to bear when you first get them. Now, only ONE tooth really hurts if I touch it, but I can't understand why this is happening?? Is it normal for one tooth to hurt a month after getting braces.

**I took medicine, but the pain didn't go away; just decreased!

Braces, only one tooth hurts. Help?

I’ve had braces for about 6 weeks now. The initial pain of getting them off and gone away and I able to eat normally. About two days ago, one of my front top teeth ( I only have braces on the top) started hurting. I’m not sure what the issue is. I realized that the tooth that is hurting, is the one that’s not completely in line with the rest, so I’m not sure if that means that this tooth is moving into place, or if something has gone wrong. I can’t put pressure on this tooth or it hurts pretty bad. Please help.

I've had my braces for a while, and one single tooth started hurting. What happened?

There could be a number of reasons for your tooth hurting. You may have a cavity, there might be something stuck or it could be the braces. It’s best to get your orthodontist to check it out. You may need to have an x-ray to check if it’s something more serious. Sometimes our teeth hurt just because of sensitivity, don’t stress too much until you’ve seen your orthodontist.

Braces i have one tooth that hurts like crazy and the wire isnt bent or bracket broken or anything?

sometimes you bite down too hard, and that causes your teeth to hurt.
or if you grind them as you sleep, or put too much pressure on them.
chewing gum too much can make this happen.
OR
if you are eating hardish chewy foods with properties like taffy or biting down o corn thats still on the cob, or apples.
Avoiding this is easy, dont bite down hard.
or you can go to the orthdonist and they will tell you what to do to prevent it.

Hope this helps!

When do braces start hurting?

Braces will start hurting almost right off the bat once they are put on, but the second day was the absolute worst one for me. They will also hurt after every adjustment but this shouldn’t be as bad as the initial pain of first getting them put on. I survived 4 years of braces and it’s a lot more painful than people want you to believe. That’s the cold hard truth, it’s not to scare you, but you should be prepared for what you are getting into.

Do braces hurt?

For the first couple of days, yes. I’ve had mine for 15 months now and are getting them off soon.Your teeth will be very sore and amazingly sensitive. Even a gentle brush will feel horrible, especially for the first day or so. This is because of the pressure that the wires are putting on your teeth and pulling them in different directions, setting off nerves that interpret them as pain. Try and eat soup or really really soft food to minimise the pain.Your gums and mouth will also hurt because you’ve got several pieces of metal jammed in your mouth and will rub against them, causing at best, minor discomfort, at worst, cuts. However this is unlikely. Your mouth will get used to it quickly, though and you’ll feel normal. You’ll also likely be provided with wax to put on the brackets (The metal pieces on the teeth holding the wire) which will minimise discomfort, if you aren’t provided with one, then you can pick them up from a local pharmacist for a cheap price. The wires themselves can also be a problem if they aren’t snipped off at the ends or a bracket on one of your back molars falls off as they can really become a problem and cause bad cuts on your cheek. However, the thinner wires can be snipped off with a pair of scissors and a strong grip relatively easily.Side note:This should go without saying, but if you are about to get braces or have just got them, take my advice…Eat SOFT FOODS!Especially for the first 6–10 months. Don’t start indulging in burgers and chocolate cos your brackets WILL come off or your wires will bend, and that’s just way too much hassle. After this period has passed, you’ll either get stronger glue for the brackets, or stainless steel wires if you don’t plan on having them for too long. After that, you can eat pretty much most things, but even so, take care with REALLY hard things, like crisps and chocolate, cos the wires can still bend and then it hurts like hell for the rest of your teeth cos of the pressure. Also, DON’T CHEW GUM for the first 6–8 months cos it will get stuck on the wires and its quite hard to get off.I hope this answer was satisfactory.

After I got my braces, only one side of my bottom teeth hurts. Help.?

So I just got my braces, and the bottom left side of my teeth hurts. Whenever I chew timbits (from Tim Hortons) on my bottom left side, it hurts like hell, but whenever I chew on the right side, its all fine. Also, It's just my bottom teeth that has braces not the top and I thought that all of my bottom teeth would hurt once after the braces are put on, but only my left side bottom teeth hurts. Does anyone know why? And no wire is poking my gums.

Why don't my braces hurt?

There are a lot of factors associated with pain or discomfort from braces. What makes braces hurt is pressure on the tooth which comes from the wires which are attached to the brackets. In the past, these wires were made of stainless steel, which was relatively stiff and it needed to be continually reactivated every month or so to keep the teeth moving. In general, these wires made people fairly sore after each visit. While we still use stainless steel, now the initial stages of treatment involve wires made of nickel titanium. This material was originally developed as part of the space program. The problem involved finding a way to extend an antennae from a satellite after it was in orbit. These wires can be compressed into a small box and when the lid is taken off of the box the wire will fully extend! In short, the wires have very gentle forces, yet can move the teeth fairly long distances. Currently, I place two small diameter nickel titanium arch wires when the brackets are placed. These wires are left in place for 20 weeks before changing them. Most patients feel pain or discomfort during the first several days, but many patients say they don’t feel anything, and they wonder why I don’t make it tighter. I could start with just a single nickel titanium wire and more patients would not feel anything, but this would generally be less efficient and would require more appointments overall. Besides, usually I will be doing something during the course of treatment that will cause some discomfort so I think it’s ok for the patient to get used to some discomfort!
