Brita Cartridges White And Black Bits

Is there mold growing in my brita filter cartridge?

The content of the original BRITA cartridge is an experienced mixture of ion exchange resin and activated carbon, which is particularly suitable for this type of drinking water conditioning.

I have just pasted this excerpt from the Brita.net website- common questions page. The white bits are probably resin beads similar to those used in commercial water softeners. Provided you have stuck to the cartridge changing regime there should be no problem

Brita black specks question?

The Brita I bought recently does that too. But like you said, the black specks of charcoal are in the top reservoir and don't go through to the water after it's gone through the filter. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about. Those are probably the same specks that came out at first. There hasn't seemed to be any more than there were at first. They just have nowhere to go. I haven't tried it yet, but if you have cleaned your hands, maybe after the water has gone through and the reservoir part is empty, what do you think about wiping them out with a clean damp paper towel?

Is it normal to have black specks in your Brita water?

I got a new Brita. I followed all the guidelines of soaking a new filter and rinsing it and letting it filter water a few times before actually using it. But there is black specs floating in my filtered water that I know is coming from the filter. Is this normal? And what is it?

Why does the Brita water filter cause the water to be black?

As stated in the previous answer, it is more than likely the substance inside the filter tainting the water due to you having not flushed the filter properly before use. It is likely to be carbon and you should remove the filter and flush it until the water no longer comes through black.Hope this helps.www.pozzani.co.uk

How do Brita pitchers keep track of when you need to change the filter?

Brita pitcher filters may feature two different ways of noting when to change your filter. The filter cartridges should be replaced after 40 gallons, which the average family should use in two months, according to Brita. The first method Brita uses is a fairly basic one. You just indicate the month you started using that filter, and then change it yourself after two months. The second method is a bit more accurate. The Smart Pitcher series uses an electronic change indicator. When you first press the start button, all four bars will flash, showing that you have full filter life. Every two weeks, however, a bar will disappear. In two months, all the bars will be gone, and it will be time to change your filter.Unfortunately, since both methods operate on time and not on how much water has passed through, neither are entirely accurate. That being said, they do give a good idea of when to change your Brita pitcher filter. Is it normal for water to come out black after a new filter is installed in the refrigerator?

Most refrigerator and sink filters have an activated charcoal filter element. When first used, usually a large amount of fine carbon particles pass out that came loose in manufacturing and storage and shipping. It can look like a real cloud of black stuff. Generally instructions say to run water through the filter for five minutes to flush that all out and it should be clear after that.Elemental Carbon in generally inert in the body and not harmful.

Is it bad to never change a Brita filter?

The Brita water filter contains a loose carbon media. You will notice that as time goes on, the water will come through faster and faster. Basically what is happening is that as the water goes through, the carbon moves to the sides and creates a funnel, allowing the water to go through faster and not be filtered. It's not necessarily worse to drink, but there is definitely no point putting your water through. If you just get lazy, look into putting in a countertop carbon filter - it works out cheaper and you only need to replace it once a year!

Anyone know how to use a BRITA water filtration pitcher?

we bought a water pitcher and I threw away the box and instructions. There is an indicator on top of the filter that goes from 25 % - to 100% and right after the 100% it says (start) when I push start, All the percentages light up and then nothing. Can anyone tell me how to work it? (A big thank you in advance)

Is there any harm in drinking the carbon dust that is introduced by filtering water?

No. However if you are concerned just run the filter for a while after changing the cartridge. Carbon absorbs contaminants. Carbon tablets are the first thing I take if i get food poisoning from bad food when traveling.
