Broke Equipment At Work Questions

I accidentally broke a piece of equipment at work. How do I tell my bosses?

I went to clean an oven and put the oven bed (it's a concrete material) on a table nearby and when I went to clean the oven it slid off and broke. My supervisor thinks I'm beating myself up too much, but my manager yelled at me several times last week for mistakes, and I'm afraid I'll get in trouble. My manager is off tomorrow but my asst manager is working. I wanna say something like "I just wanted to apologize last night for the oven bed, it was an accident and I take full responsibility. It won't happen again." My manager is annoyed with me and figure the assistant manager will tell him. But I just am scared to tell him myself. He'll notice it but I wanna be honest.

Will I have to pay for it? I work in NH. Someone broke an oven bed a few weeks ago, but I don't know what happened with him. I'm scared. :/

How do I fix broken equipment in Theme Hospital?

There is actually no way at all to delete or fix these rooms. Once your machines have exploded there is nothing you can do. You need to make sure you have enouhg maintenance men employed, and check up on your equipment frequently. If it starts to get old you will probably need to replace it. If there is an earthquake you are likely to lose anything that is not up to par... along with anyone in the room at the time!

I lost some of my best surgeons that way. :(

Broke expensive equipment at work, Should I tell boss?

Tell your boss straight out that it broke and that it was an accident. You have it backwards by thinking if you DON'T tell him, then he'll trust you less. In reality, he'll trust you more if you do tell him what happened. Don't offer to pay for it, though - that's not necessary.

Be straightforward - "Boss, I feel terrible but I was using the molligizor yesterday and I accidentally snapped the Gorbin tube. It was an accident and I'm very sorry about it."

If you know how you would avoid that type of accident in the future, then say that also. "I didn't realize that I was putting too much pressure on the tube fitting and I won't make that mistake again."

He might freak out, he might not. But either way, you will have done the right thing and he will respect you for your honesty.

If you don't tell him, he might assume you broke it anyway, and will forever think you are a coward for pretending not to know about it. And if he comes right out and asks you, and you plan to tell the truth then, you might as well tell him first instead of waiting for him to bring it up.

Are my headphones broken?

Possibly, but there are several things to check before coming to that conclusion.First is to check your connections.  An improperly inserted plug will often keep one side of the headphones from working. It's also worth checking the source of the sound.  If it's an iPhone or some type of media player it is certainly wired for stereo sound, however some pro audio headphone amps are wired differently, and if you're using it with something like that, you'll need to be certain that all of your connections are done correctly with the proper cables. Finally, and this is a long shot as they're new, it's possible with ear buds to have ear wax block the sound on one of the drivers.  Take off whatever is covering the driver and have a look at the end that delivers the audio to your ear.  If it appears solid, you may have an ear wax plug in there.  Most professional ear buds come with a small wire to scoop it out, but if not, carefully find something small enough and go only as far into the driver as necessary to catch it and get it out.

Describe a piece of broken electronic equipment. --PLEASE help me modify and improve my English oral test article?

I would like to describe that my laptop was broken last month.

It couldn’t into the Windows system when I tuned it on. The words in screen told me that it was a hardware broken question bla bla bla… You know my boyfriend is a computer nut but I’m not, I didn’t want to bother him since we were in a cold war. So I restarted it and it still didn’t work.

And then, I phoned the laptop after-sale service office to require help. The service staff told me that I needed come over with the equipment. The maintain station was far from my home, so I decided that I would try to prepare it. First I searched the same problem on Internet and found out the way to solve it. It is not quit difficult to deal with it, the information taught me how to into the safety system and chose right option and restarted it.

In the end, I made it. I felt full of sense of achievement.

Broken screen, worth fixing? Also, used camera equipment?

Awhile ago, I bought http://www.walmart.com/ip/Samsung-16.1-MP-ST-201/21566222 <- this point & shoot camera. The camera was alright for what I payed (79$ w/ 8gb sd card and case), but I recently screwed up and broke the screen. The camera got pushed into the carpet LCD side up by a thin metal part of a chair causing a small rectangle break in the LCD, now most of the screen is just random lines and colors emanating from the break, only about 1/4 of the screen actually works. I don't think there's any other damage.

I want to get a better camera anyway. This one doesn't really suit my needs, with the small lens and sensor. I think I might want to buy a dSLR.

My questions are:

1: How much is it likely to cost to have the screen replaced (my warrenty won't cover this), and is it worth it (as opposed to buying some other camera).

2. I'm a beginner photographer and am not trying to be a professional photographer, would it be better to get a dSLR, or a bridge camera, obviously I want a dSLR but I don't think I can afford it at this time. Are bridge cameras a waste of money? If so, what would you recommend for a beginner, casual photographer?

3. Lastly, I want to ask for opinions on whether buying a used camera is a bad idea or not.

Thanks,
John

If an employee broke company equipment, do they have to pay for it?

The FLSA says that no matter what, an employer may not deduct so much from your paycheck that the end result is that you are paid less than minimum wage for the hours you worked. So this is one answer to your question. Then, many states add another layer of restrictions for items which are allowed deductions. Often times, deductions that are not for the benefit of the employee, like breakage is not, are not allowed. Then there are final paycheck rules which expressly forbid converting debt or property into a paycheck deduction. If, on the other hand you intentionally broke something, the company could try to prove it through the same means they would accuse anyone of damaging property. And if they prevail they may be able to attempt to collect a debt.

I just broke my glasses and I have to go to work tomorrow?

I can barely see my computer screen as I type this (I'm seriously squinting about three inches away from the darn thing)

I've had my glasses for about a year, and they've been good. I took them off to clean the lenses, gently like I normally do, and the arm just broke off! Not from a screw or anything, just the metal broke.
They are the kind with no bottom frame, so they have an almost fishing wire type thing holding the lenses in place.
My insurance only covers the exam, not the lenses or frmes, so that's why I have only the one pair...

I have work tomorrow, and I really can't see anything more than a blur. What do I do? It's after midnight, so it's too late to call in tonight. I work closing shift (2:30 - 11) so should I just call in the morning? Will that give them enough time to find somebody to take over my shift?
Is "I broke my glasses and can't see" a good enough excuse for calling in and missing work at the last minute? I work in a deli, aroud knives and a lot of sharp equipment in a small space Not being able to see is a seriously dangerous thing there.

I've only been working there for three weeks and this is my first job and I desperately need all the hours I can get! Please help!

A student of mine broke my personal laptop. Can I sue them and their parents for not wanting to pay for the repair?

Yes, you can sue just about anyone for just about anything. It’s really dependent on how good your lawyer is. Also, your winnings after fees get exponentially lower with a good lawyer than a bad one- and if a bad lawyer loses the case it would probably be cheaper to lose than to win.
