Bros Why Are Cons Prejudiced Against Large People

Is the book Pride and Prejudice a good book?

Hi there.

There's a reason P&P is ALWAYS at the top of the "best novels ever written" lists -- Austen describes people and their behavior brilliantly. She's often poking gentle fun of them, while still making serious points about society. (One theme that comes up in all her novels, even if it's not discussed directly, is the way women have to depend on their fathers, brothers, or husbands for money. They could only work as governesses, where women were often abused.)

But the main thing is, once you get the hang of it, her books are fun to read. And they always have a romance going on, especially P&P. I really urge you to give her a serious chance. I know, I had to read P&P when I was in 7th grade, and the teacher "forgot" to mention it's supposed to be funny! We thought it was stupid. I'm SO glad I tried her again when I got older.

Best wishes,

How do we fight prejudice and hatred while respecting people's right to express themselves?

If my right to express myself is causing pain to you then my rights are disqualified by your right to not face verbal violence. We don't fight hatred. We sensitise. We explain to people why they should accept rather than reject. We humanise. We create narratives in which other cultures become familiar to us.We listen. We make people feel safe.We lay down the guns trained at each other’s hearts. But I suppose that is quite idealistic.

What are the pros and cons of living in Canada?

Pros:Good primary education system and highly literate populationHighly diverse population, which has led to a highly tolerant populationStrong legal system and a lot of respect for the law and law enforcementFairly good social services system, although poverty still existsFairly good health care system with very few out-of-pocket expensesFirst rate universities and colleges, which includes the professional schools for law, medicine, dentistry and so forthSolid banking system (there hasn’t been a bank failure since 1983)Specialized financial markets for mature stocks (Toronto), venture stocks (Vancover and Calgary) and derivatives (Montreal).Robust democracy with low campaigning costs (typically about $50 million Canadian at the high end for the major parties for each national election campaign).Cons:Extreme weather of all types. Winter temperatures in some major Canadian cities can drop to -40 Celcius. Summer temperatures in major Canadian cities can climb to +40 Celcius. Heavy rain on the west coast during the winter and major snow on the east coast.Poor intercity transportation. No national limited access highway network. This winter, one broken bridge cut the country’s road system into two pieces. Limited access highways and rail only cover the most densely populated areas, and that’s spotty (Peterborough, population 50,000 and an hour from Toronto, has no rail service).Allows for development of regional political parties like Reform and the Bloc Quebecois at the national level.

Among large UK Newspapers, which are considered conservative and which are considered liberal?

The spectrum in the UK isn't so much liberal conservative but rather left right. For the broadsheets, starting with the left:The Independent: nominally independent and centrist but I would put on the left these days. Shrill, especially with regards to foreign policy. Not my cup of teaThe Guardian: Centre-left. Pretty pro New Labour. Middle class. Commentators like Polly Toynbee and Owen Jones amongst the biggest name leftists in Britain (how depressing)(Mythical centre ground)The Financial Times: doesn't really have a slant, just business conservatism I guess. Probably the best British paper. The Times: has gone a lot more right wing recently. But still a quality paper. Owned by Murdoch. The Telegraph: house journal of the Conservative Party. Has become a bit of a caricature of itself in recent years. Owned by the Barclay Bros.Moving onto the tabloids, starting with the left:Daily Mirror: Labour supporting Tabloid. Traditional populist left fare. Dull. The i Paper: brief version of the independent. Not too bad if you don't want too much depth(Mythical centre ground)The Sun: Populist right wing. Working class paper. Entertaining. But immigrant-baiting, routinely lies and misrepresents. Biggest selling paper in Britain. Owned by Murdoch. The Daily Mail: Middle class populist right wing. Shrill. Peddles rubbish. Basically it's for those who are too snobbish to read The Sun and too thick to read The Times. The Daily Express: The Daily Mail but for almost exclusively pensioners. Obsessed with the weather, pensions and Princess Diana. Owned by porn baron Richard "Dirty" Desmond. The right wing tabloids are all similarly right-wing, just in different ways. The other papers (Daily Star etc) are just full of showbiz crap and breasts. Not really newspapers.

If you support gay marriage do you support incest too?

I am very much pro same sex marriage but someone asked me why I supported it and I said becuase if two adults are in love and everything is consensual than who am I to tell them they have false love. Then they also pointed out that the same argument could be used if a brother and sister fell in love. What's your opinion?

Why is Obama funding Al-Qaeda rebels in Syria & not the secular rebels in Egypt against the Muslim Brotherhood?

I know if a person thinks Obama is a Crypto-Muslim makes people think your a nut, but why is he defending hardline Islamist governments in the middle east. Thats a legitimate question. Is it because his African daddy was a Muslim?
