If I am building a desktop computer for the first time, what is the likelihood that I will break expensive components?

If you're being careful, and making sure that the right screws go in the right holes rather than forcing, assembly of a modern PC is a fairly simple jig-saw puzzle. It only starts to become complicated when you want to match high-end performance parts for gaming purposes. While some assistance from a technically-inclined friend is always a good idea, the satisfaction of building a "standard" machine for word processing and interet use is well worth the time involved.

I'm really nervous about building my first computer?

I have built several computers...

really it is pretty easy...
don't force anything...memory installation, CPU, plugs, wires....
all should come into place easy. If your cpu and memory is already installed
half the battle is done...

if not remember only a small dot of thermal paste is required between CPU and heat sink.
Be VERY careful with CPU install - those gold pins bend EASY...

Careful with mobo install to case and plug power to the mobo LAST after all other connections.

make sure everything is seated properly and you should be fine.

Computer Build?

These are the parts I'm looking into for my new build. It's my first time and I'm wondering if anyone with a little more experience can give some input on my choices. Thx

CPu - E8400 WOLFDALE
GPU - 8800GT
PSU - COOLER MASTER EXTREME RP-550-PCAR 550W
CASE - COOLER MASTER CENTURION 5 CZC-TO5-UW
CPU COOLER - ROSEWILL RCX-Z775-EX
MOBO - GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3L
RAM - G.SKILL 2BG (2X1GB) DDR2 SDRAM 800 (PC2 6400)
HDD - SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.10 ST3500630AS 500GB

I am planning on doing some minor OC'n on the CPU, but not messing with the VCore. I already own a monitor and its highest res. is 1028x768 which I'm happy enough with. I am also putting in a Win-TV 150MCE and LG DVD-RW Drive.

Will this powersupply be sufficient and is this a good choice for a budget gaming computer?

I'm building a pc for the first time and I need help because I don't know if everything is compatible or if I need anything else.?

First time build, Computer won't start, need help?

I have a ;

OS : None Purchased yet.
VIDEO CARD : EVGA GeForce GTX 560 1GB GDDR5 PCIe Dual DVI/HDMI
MOTHERBOARD : M452-6208 MSI H61M-P23 B3 Intel H61 Socket LGA1155 MB
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3Ghz Unlocked LGA1155 CPU
RAM : A206-5800 ADATA PREMIER SERIES 4GB DDR3 1333MHZ DESKTOP
DVD DRIVE : O451-1030 OEM Sony Optiarc 24X DVDRW SATA OEM
CHASIS: Thermaltake V2 Mid Tower ATX Case
HDD : TSD-1000AS6 SY Seagate 1TB LP Serial ATA HD 5900/32MB/SATA-3G
PSU : Corsair TX850W 850W Power Supply

I plugged everything in, reseated everything, Plugged the 24 pin and the 6 pin connector, all my Front end plugs are set correct, I do not have the hard drive or the Dvd-Rom plugged in, I have a keyboard and DVI cord plugged in (The DVI to the Video Card).

The Video Card has to PCI power cord's going into it.

The Problem is I plug it in and nothing no sound whats or ever, I tried replacing the motherboard and still nothing, I tried resetting everything and have got nothing, I ruled out a bad PSU by testing it and seeing that it ran smoothly.

Last night I plugged it in and randomly it started perfectly but I had nothing plugged in so couldn't see if a BIOS screen came up, I got some beeps but didn't count them so I have no Idea what they mean when I shut it off to bring it to where it needed to be, and plug in the keybaord and monitor suddenly it won't turn on again.

ANY HELP WOULD BE AMAZING !!

How much would it cost to build an ok computer for gaming?

a build for roughly $800 including operating system and monitor
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XkzYmG

for League and Counter Strike an Intel build is superior as these games don't run on more than 2 cores and the per core performance of an Intel i3 is about 60% better than the one of any FX cpu. these AMD FX multicore cpu's are only better if it comes to the latest games, e.g. Watch Dogs.

btw, this Intel build with i3 cpu, GTX 750 Ti and 8GB ram can run Battlefield 4 on high settings.

How does a first timer build a decent gaming PC?

Question: How does a first-timer build a decent gaming PC?I would HEAVILY suggest watching Paul’s Hardware’s monthly builds, look at the specs he gives for what you can afford, watch build videos from JayzTwoCents and Linus Tech Tips and Paul’s Hardware and Bitwit. Those are good first steps at least. Just swap out cases and manufactorers as you see fit to make it your own (as long as everything fits… might take some research).Keep in mind, your first throw-together is going to probably be cringeworthy, but you have a chance to make it morph and change as you see fit. Good luck
