How long it takes to get Child Development Associate (CDA) certified?
In order to get a CDA you must complete 120 hours of training, a Resource File, an Observation, a written test and an oral test. This usually takes anywhere from 6 months to a year, depending on how you get the 120 hours of training and how the CDA program you work with is designed. You must also have 420 hours working in the field before you can be assessed. Go to cdacouncil.org for more information. As to cost, how much you pay for training depends on where you get that training. There is $325 fee for the Council assessment which includes the testing and a review of all your paperwork and the Resource File. See if there is something like a Child Care or Day Care Council in your area. They should be able to help you get information on local programs that offer the training and observation and may know of scholarship money. Avoid doing it on line. It is easier and more meaningful when you have a group to work with in person.
