California Cow Becomes Buffalo Instead Does This Make Sense

Whatever happened to the beefalo and ostriches?

Was it the 70's, or 80's? The hybrid bovine/buffalo was to become a major meat source,it went away. Then similar things were said of the ostrich, but it too went away. Can anybody explain to me what happened?

Is Blue Buffalo dog food really all that great?

A Blue Buffalo sales rep at a pet store was going on and on about blue buffalo dog food.

“Its so great, its got life bits, its the best selling dog food “ yatta yatta. But she could not really give me a REAL reason why it superior ingredients wise to other good foods. To me, it has a MUCH lower meat content then I like to see.

I told her I do not judge a food by popularity, amount of sales or “hype” I judge it by the ingredients. If

I just bought whatever people told me was best, or what sold the most, or what the vets/breeder/show dogs get, I would be feeding science diet or eukanuba still.

Other foods they sell are Innova, Innova EVO, California natural.

I was looking at Innova EVO, and the blue buffalo rep said “Even the lady that owns the pet store in town that sells Innova feeds her own dogs Blue Buffalo”

She also said that veterinarians say blue buffalo has the best vitamins… I told her “What do veterinarians know about nutrition? They also tell you to feed Science diet” <.<

I also have access to Wellness Core, Solid Gold, Natural Balance, Taste of The Wild, Organix, Halo.

SOOOOO many good foods! Price is really not an issue, I only have one tiny 2 lb puppy toy poodle so we don’t need much, nor very often.

Canned food, and raw suggestions welcomed also.

I use to feed all my dogs raw, but its really messy and difficult with this poodle.

How long does it take for a cow to fully grow for human consumption?

In Canada and USA beef production is highly specialized.Gone are the days when a single farmer raised a calf from it’s birth to slaughter. There is one general rule though: Mostly the male animals are raised for beef and eventually for slaughter, while many of the female calves are kept to become future mothers. Here are the distint phases of beef farming:Cow-Calf farming: Here the farmer will keep bunch of cows and bulls (one bull for 25 cow herd, 2 bulls for 50 cow herd and so on); and will produce live calves…(90 to 95 live calve percentage is pretty good; that is, if you have 100 cows and 4 bulls, you will most likely have 90 to 95 live calves; once a year…) Bull calves are generally castrated immediately or just before the herd is let into the pasture. You will keep these calves on pasture and mothers milk, approximately 7 months. At this age the calves will weigh an average of 600 lbs.At this age, the calves are sold to another farmer or a business person who will feed the calves on a special diet (mostly hay and some grain) for an average of 6 months to reach a weight of 900 to 1100 lbs. This is called a “Backgrounding Operation”.At the end of this phase the young cattle is sold or passed to the “Finishing Operation”; this is generally a penned facility, the cattle is fed rich grain ration and will reach a weight of 1300 to 1500 lbs. at approximately 18 months age.At the end of this phase the cattle is sent to a slaughter facility.Cow- Calf farming is enjoyable (because you have close relationship with your cows, bulls and calves similar to the house pets; the other phases are generally pretty harsh, hence we call it “Factory Farming”.Sometimes you will have to bottle feed an orphaned calf…She/he will be your pet for the next 7 months…

Does eating ghee increase weight?

GHEE DOES NOT MAKE YOU FAT . Ghee is balancing for vata and pitta. Kaphas can have ghee in moderation. Vatas need the oil and Agni stoke from ghee. Pittas need the agni stoke and the cooling effect ghee has. Kaphas need just a little ghee because they are already oily and cool. Ghee is the only fat that actually increases agni (digestive fire/metabolism)! So imagine eating a super tasty fat that increases your ability to digest and assimilate foods as well as give a little boost in the metabolism department. Yum, magic! Different than butter, ghee does not cling to our insides to make a cloggy mess. In fact, it very mildly pulls toxins out it goes through our bod. Ghee “butters” the insides and helps us maintain regular digestion . Ghee melts when you touch it, even at room temperature and it seeps deep into our tissues to keep our bodies supple. Butter does not. You can even put ghee on a mild burn (cooling, remember) and you cannot with butter. Ghee has a high smoke point and won’t burn in the pan, so you can sautee veggies or spices in it and add to your favorite dishes. Ghee is a sattvic food; foods that promote total harmony in the body-mind. Our minds get easy so instead of worrying if ghee makes us fat, we can simply enjoy it. On a larger scale, our focus in life turns to enjoyment rather than worry. In Ayurveda, using ghee is said to lower cholesterol! Butter does NONE of these things! They are different foods. Butter and ghee are not the same thing.
