In theory, you need a permit to change a light bulb. In practice, no one does this. If your skills are good, go ahead and build that non-load-bearing wall. Make sure you don't violate codes involving outlets, windows, HVAC, and egress.

FWIW, I wouldn't do what you're trying. If you're going to sell the house, it'll bring what it'll bring as two huge bedrooms and not one huge bedroom with two small bedrooms. Are you trying to make it a "standard" 3BR/2BA house? OK, you might lose a few looky-loos who won't look at anything less than three bedrooms. But folks look at the square footage, too. And if you've got two huge bedrooms and only one bath, a 3BR/1BA house will get passed up since it's missing that second bath.

Save your construction money and use it for your down payment on your next house. Make yours the best "2BR" house you can. Maybe get a new kitchen faucet or put some tile on the counter. ... Good luck!!

Can I run single phase equipment on three phase power?Yes, you are doing it now. Power is generated as 3 phase power, then distributed as 3 phase power. At some point, at a substation or at a powerpole, only one of those 3 phases is distributed into a neighborhood.Who gets what phase is chosen to try and balance the loads as much as possible.In any large commercial building, 3 phase power is brought to the building. Large loads like HVAC will use 3 phase motors. But all of the internal wiring for the outlets are all single phase. But they are divided up among the 3 phases. So 1/3 of the lighting will be powered from one phase, the next 1/3 from the next phase, the last 1/3 from the third phase.The same process is done for the outlets.Some effort goes into balancing, so that when most of the lights are shut off at night, the remaining lights are not all on the same phase. If there are power hungry single phase loads such as copy machines, ovens, etc., they are placed on different phases so no one phase has a lot more power drawn during the course of a day.But you don’t plug single phase equipment into all three phases.

Which is harder? HVAC or Plumbing?

There is no real answer to this question. Both fields are difficult to learn, as well as to practice, in their own right. One is not "harder" than the other. No plumber is going to tell you that his job is easier than a guy in the HVAC or refrigeration field, and the same goes for any HVAC guy comparing himself to a plumber.

To anyone who says either one is "easy", well, they just don't know what the are talking about.

It's all about what kind of work you prefer. Plumbers are going to need a good understanding of physics and hands on mechanical skills like fitting pipes, as well as a stomach for things that would make a lot of people cringe.

The HVAC field is going to include a lot of technical skills like using a voltmeter and understanding electricity and electronics on a moderate scale. But, plumbers also need a little bit of knowledge in electricity just as HVAC guys need to know some of the basics of plumbing, like how a drain works. Point is, there is no way to define one as harder than the other. To truly become a good plumber or AC guy, you have to devote yourself to learning the trade and not just be looking for a easy job.

How much would it cost to install an HVAC system for a 10k sqft warehouse?

Dude I myself am an H VAC contractor. Do not attempt to listen to the guy blowing smoke up your *** saying 20 grand. Lets look at this. Its a bad economy right now, everyone is playing cut throat. There is some method besides guessing. If your warehouse is a big open space with a small office built inside the warehouse it self you can do like most places do and order a large residential system. If you just want to heat and cool the office inside id recommend a 1.5 ton 13 seer split system normally sells for 2000 max for every thing you will need. If you want the entire warehouse heated and cooled than bump it up to 2 5 ton split systems that's about 5-7 grand for everything meaning systems, line sets flex pipes, prices depend some contractors use supply houses more frequently then others and they can sometimes do better deals than others.. Have your office hooked into one and have a min of 10 flex pipes ran threw your ware house 2 in each corner and 2 in the center id really say use 10-14 in flex pipe to get the max out put of air. The only down fall is most supply houses will not sell to a regular person you have to carry the min of a CFC certification to buy refrigerant. 90% of supply houses only require you to have this card to buy any thing from them and other want to see the contractors license . Blowing fuse with air conditioner?

My daughter lives in an apartment and I bought 2 air conditioners, one for each bedroom. Every time they try to turn them both on they blow a fuse. Is there anything I can do about it. There is nothing we can do about the wiring as it is an apartment, she has a fuze box in the kitchen with levers she pushes back up to turn it back on. Is there something I can buy to stop them from blowing a fuse. It gets very hot in there (5th floor) and turning one on will not make the other bedroom cooler.

My house has a single-phase power connection. I am planning to buy an air conditioner. Can a 1.5 ton machine work, or should I go for a 1 or 1.2 ton?

Single Phase connection is no problem at all. The 1.5Ton AC will also run on single phase only. The only thing you need to worry about is the sanctioned maximum load that you have for your house connection from the electricity distribution utility (This can be verified from the monthly bill). The total load of all the electrical appliances running simultaneously in your house should not exceed this value for 2 reasons: 1. You would be fined / charged extra on exceeding the sanctioned load. 2. The electrical cable supplying the power to your house is usually rated to handle this load value and there is a risk of this cable getting overheated etc.A typical rule of thumb for a 1.5Ton AC on power consumption is 2KW. Would it be more energy efficient to have two HVAC units for a single-story, ranch-style house instead of one?

1st, I suggest checking your insulation, windows and weatherstripping. WIndows are often tinted now to reduce gain and film can be added to older ones. Hard awnings maybe a additional option especially where architects installed those massive sunny view windows and patio doors without regard to eliminating solar gain.IF there is room for more insulation in the attic add it if it doesnt block the vents. Look at adding a radiant aluminum barrier above the insulation on trusses if possible, unless it was actually properly built with foil backed board on the attic rafters, to reduce attic temperatures. MAke sure attic is sufficiently vented.Seal up the house so air only comes in through properly sized fresh air vents. You have spray foam, sealants and door-sweeps available. DO consider you may actually need a larger fresh air vent, here in Canada these are ran into a can so in winter thecold air tends to sit in the bottom of can but when needed for furnace, hot water heater, clothes drier, or exhaust fan, will spill out into house. without this you will be endangering your life.Spray wash the air conditioner fins yearly or more often if needed. CHeck your furnace filter, if its a useless 1 inch model get a 5 inch system when replacing furnace. ASsuming the cooling coil is after a furnace see if its possible to get a inspection port installed above by a proffesional so you can have the coil in the ductwork cleaned, its probably had 20 years of dirty air to reduce its efficiency if it used a 1 inch filter.I mention all the above because you only want a air conditioner to cool to desired temperature on the hottest day at which point it should be running continuously, if its over sized it will cycle too much and not remove enough moisture. After bringing house to todays insulation standard a new cooling calculation may provide a better sized unit or units. When the time comes to buy, investigate if inverter units are available. Instead of on and off these vary the speed of the compressor to maximize efficiency.
