Can A Guy Work At Nordstrom

How old do you have to be to work at nordstrom?

I would say 18 with great social skills and multi tasking skills and someone that is majoring in fashion.

Working at Nordstrom?

If you're a straight guy, you're in heaven, cuz there's a lot more women who work at nordstroms, except for the men's departments. I used to work at Nordstroms and if you sell well you can make a lot of money per hour off of commissions. Guys and girls are always dressed really chic, its all about presentation. Some of the men wear suits, but most wear nice slacks and dress shirt. Goodluck!

Working at Nordstroms?

Their base pay is not much more than minimum wage. However, if you can get a commissioned position, you have the potential to make much more.

Women's shoes is a great department to earn more. If you are good, you really can make some good money. We have a lady who works at a finer department store in the shoe department who has been there since I was in junior high. She really makes good money, and has a repeat client list. The only catch is that you have to work in the shoe department, so make sure you are ok with all this entails.

Good luck!

Do you have to be fancy to work at Nordstrom or Macy's?

I can only answer for Macy's, but I have gone for an interview at Nordstrom's where they explained the dress code, which is basically business casual (nothing sleeveless, you have to wear nylons if your skirt is shorter than knee-length, your shoes have to have at least a half-inch heel on them, etc). Since Nordstrom is commission based, appearance is key. Customers are more likely to approach an attractive well-dressed sales associate for advice on putting together an outfit.

Macy's on the other hand...heh. I've worked for Macy's in two regions.
Macy's Central/South had an all black clothes dress code (or a solid colored top under a black jacket/sweater). There were VERY few employees who wore makeup or put effort into appearance. When I moved to California, the dress code was business casual. Most of my coworkers executed the bare minimum. Many Macy's departments (other than shoes, fragrance, and cosmetics) are not commission based, so it tends to make us feel like glorified cashiers that pick up after people.

Maybe I'm jaded, but NO, you don't have to be fancy to work at Macy's, but it's in your best interest to be fancy for Nordstrom's.

15 year old working at nordstrom?

If they do hire you, because of your age, they are not going to put you on the sales floor right away. Either they are going to start you off at the Rack, or as a cashier, or stock. I personally have never seen anyone that young get hired there, The youngest I have seen there was 17 and they all only got hired because they knew someone, all of them also first started off cashiering before they moved onto sales. If you want to take a week or 2 off for summer vacation, keep in mind that you will not get paid for it, PTO (paid time off) does not start until you work 1000 hours or after a year, also if they hire you, as a rule there, all vacation and time off requests must be made at least a month in advance. I'm not too sure if you would be right for a selling position, you are already saying that you are not very outgoing, that won't work there, you MUST be aggressive, a lot of the sales people there have years experience, and are much older than you, and if you eventually want to get out there, you have to have a very outgoing attitude, and focus on selling. Some of the experienced sales people are sharks, and when I sold on commission, people stole my sales, customers, and fights constantly flew because all of us were hungry (if ya know what I mean). Your sales is your paycheck, and also when customers return items they bought from you, that money comes directly out of your check, you must be aggressive, be ready to run, kiss your customers butt as much as possible and build your customer base. It's hard work, and your checks are so up and down all the time. For you I would start off as a cashier, or even in the e-bar, and gradually work your way into sales. Good luck

How do you get hired at Nordstrom?

I would if I were them. Immigrants work harder and are more grateful for their jobs....Honestly, I don't think they do hire them though. I've heard Nordstrom's has a very intense H.R. dept, which adhere's to even the most mundane of the state and federal employment laws....

Nordstrom and Tattoos?

You may not like what I am going to say but I'm telling you like it is. Sure, some businesses don't mind an employee with a tattoo. Typically, those employees are in low paying, low profile jobs with little, or no contact with the companies clients. Let me back up for just a moment. I t all depends where the tattoo is located. If its in a place that it will not be visible in any type of attire you wear for work, then it will not be an issue. However, if its in an area where it cannot be easily hidden, then it may be an issue. As I was saying, basically the more contact you have with the public (clients, customers, etc.), the more it becomes an issue.
Nordstrom is a high end retail chain of stores. A professional appearance is a must in this type of work environment when if you will be working in a position that requires a good deal of interaction with their retail customers. In the stockroom? No, not really. On the sales floor? Most definitely.
Having said that, I cannot predict what their reaction will be toward this situation. I don't have enough detail of the situation, or much knowledge in the area of employment law. But, let it suffice to say that many people have either not been hired, or perhaps even lost their job/career simply because they had a tattoo which was visible in the workplace. I think its safe to say that a high end retailer such as Nordstrom is highly unlikely to employ people with tattoos of any kind if they are the least bit visible especially if that employee will be dealing with customers, or even seen by customers of their business. They have a rock solid, respectable reputation and public image to protect, and they most certainly aren't about to blow it by hiring someone with tattoos. Same applies to piercings, hair length and style, and so on. Lets face it, when was the last time you have ever seen someone with a tattoo working in any type of professional position that requires interaction with the companies clients, or customers? Its very rare. Those types are usually found working as dishwashers at the local 24 hour diner, or as the trash pick up guys, and so on. it sux, but thats just the way things are. I wish you the best in getting this job. I hope you get it!!!

Should I work for the mens wearhouse vs Nordstrom?

I don’t know anything about working at Men’s Wearhouse, so I can’t speak for them. However, I spent almost five years working for Nordstrom in various positions, so I will address your question from that perspective.Nordstrom is an excellent company to work for. They genuinely care about their employees (and their customers) and reward excellence through promotions and additional compensation. For managers, work-life balance is quite difficult - they work weekends, holidays, evenings, and lots of hours. This is also true of most top salespeople - the money is made when the people are shopping.Nordstrom is also a great way to learn a lot about the fashion industry and current fashion trends. The actively educate their salespeople on these things. To learn about working at Men’s Wearhouse I suggest checking out sites like Glassdoor – Get Hired. Love Your Job. You can generally find good reviews from current and former employees that will tell you about what it’s like to work there.Good luck!
