Can A Holistic Md Give Blood Or Write And Order To Get Blood

Can I give blood if I have positive antibodies?

It depends on what kind of antibodies present in your blood.

Am I a terrible person for not donating blood?

Lately I have been feeling very guilty. My school is organizing a blood-donation day where groups of students from each year level can donate their blood to help save the lives of others. Apparently you cannot take part if you have underlying medical problems, have recently been unwell etc. I am healthy and probably should participate.

Everyone is talking about it and in my opinion they are very generous and caring. I think the students participating are amazing for doing this kind thing. But I simply CANNOT bring myself to do it. I feel awful about it! Just thinking of needles makes me squirmish. The thought of blood, veins and needles makes me feel physically ill and terribly uncomfortable.

Am I a bad person? I feel so selfish and mean. Can I help others out in ways that do not involve the extraction of my own blood into a plastic bag?

Is it possible to store or bank blood and then reserve the said blood for only personal or related family use?

A blood bank will collect, process, and store blood that was donated for the specific use of a single person when that person is known to need a transfusion. If your child needs a blood transfusion, the bank will collect your directed donation, process it, and then transfuse it is short order. If you expect to need blood during a surgery and doctors cannot be sure they will have access to your blood type, then they can write a perscription for you to donate blood, wait for you to replenish your blood cells, then perform the surgery with your autologous donation waiting for use.But if you are wanting to regularly donate blood and reserve it for the potential event that one of your friends or family need blood, but don’t want to allow that blood to be donated to someone you don’t know, then blood banks will not work with you. They have enough on their plate without trying to make sure you approve of the recipient before your blood is transfused.

Does giving blood weaken your immune system?

Pure coincidence. The normal healthy person can lose a pint of blood with absolutely no ill effects, and certainly it will not have any effect on the immune system. You are probably just off color due to something that was about to happen anyway.

How can I identify my blood type without visiting a professional?

A2AAside from what Joe Carl has stated, you cannot determine your blood type. You need to see a clinician and have them order the test. You can also donate blood and they will notify you of your blood type

How can an O blood group person donate blood to everyone, because if the O blood group has both A and B antibodies, but not their respective antigens, then how can one from this group donate to everyone?

I guess there are some misinterpretation of the statements. I will do my best to make it as simpler as I can.  1. O blood group has both the antibodies "anti-A" and "anti-B". This statement means that the immune system of the person who has O blood group, will produce "anti-A" and "anti-B" antibodies, if any antigen like A or B comes in contact.  For example if the donor is A , B or AB and the recipient is O , there will be production of the antibodies accordingly. For example, if A is donor and the recipient is of O blood group, will produce anti A antibody and coagulation will occur so we can't give A group blood to O group recipient. Same happens with B group too, anti-B antibody will produce and coagulate. If the donor is AB, as both antigens are present, both antibodies anti-A and anti-B will be produced  by the recipient of O blood group and coagulation will occur.  2. O blood group has no antigen.  This line means that if the donor is of O blood group will donate his blood to any recipient of any blood group, there will be no antibodies formed by the recipient's blood group.  Why ? Because antibodies are formed by the immune system in response to the antigen. If there is no antigen, there is no question of antibody production and the blood group will be acceptable by every recipient.Well this is very basic concept. But in practice we check for Rh factor too with ABO compatibility. But I think this question doesn't need that explanation.

Will blood cancer ever be cured?

If the blood cancer cases are curable or not, it will depend much upon the stage of the cancer the patient is. If you are into an early stage of blood cancer and are among young in age and the patient is known to have less cancer spread then treating the blood cancer becomes simple.Types of blood cancer treatment are available,ChemotherapyRadiation therapyBiological TherapyBone marrow transplantationStem cell transplantationSo, considering all these factors the curability of the blood cancer treatment in India simply varies from one case to the other. Also, the other factors that play a vital role include the top hospital that you are treated with along the competitive doctor taking up your case. So, the answer to this question is simple and hope you got the answer for the same.

Can I donate blood if I have had lasik surgery in the past couple of months?

You should be just as able to donate blood after Lasik as you were before Lasik, however there will be some considerations.

There is virtually no possibility of any type of blood borne pathogen contamination during Lasik in an otherwise healthy eye. All the cutting and sculpting during Lasik occurs exclusively in the cornea (clear front of the eye). A healthy cornea gets its oxygen from the atmosphere, not from blood vessels.

However, if you were a contact lens abuser you may have developed blood vessels in the cornea. This is called corneal neovascularization and occurs because the contact lens blocks oxygen to the cornea and the oxygen in blood is the alternative source. Sometimes Lasik will sever neovascularization blood vessels in the cornea, however even then the probability of contamination through Lasik is very low. Your Lasik surgeon will be able to tell you if you had any blood loss during surgery.

You will have used - and may still be using - topical antibiotic and corticosteroid eye drops. You may also be using Restasis to control dry eye issues. Restasis is diluted cyclosporine, an anti-inflammatory. The tearing system connects to the sinus system that connects to the respiratory system and all of this absorbs the medication.

The half-life of the medications commonly used after Lasik is rather short so they will be expelled from your system quickly, but you should notify the phlebotomist of any medications you have recently used.

And kudos to you for giving blood!

Why can't a person with hypothyroidism donate blood?

"Hypothyroid patients who are taking levothyroxine (i.e., Synthroid), Cytomel, Thyrolar, or natural thyroid products like Armour and are in the normal thyroid range can give blood if they don't have any other precluding conditions."

"Thyroid: for Hypothyroid, can donate if feeling well and euthyroid on thyroxine for six months. " [euthyroid means normal levels of thyroid hormones]

I don't know for certain the exact reasoning behind these guidelines. Couldn't find anything on Google after a brief search.
