Can A Homeschooler In Ca Be Part Of Public School Band

Can you go to one high school but play on another high schools sports team?

You can be Title IXd into a sport for the following reasons:Your school doesn’t offer the appropriately gendered team for you. You are legally allowed to play if you make the team. (ie, your school has men’s hockey, but you’re a strong female player)You attend a magnet school or homeschool that doesn’t offer your sport. My school didn’t offer cheerleading, so I cheered for another school. If your school doesn’t offer your sport, with consent of two principals, you can usually play for another school. That second school is typically your neighborhood high school. I know people who did that for swimming.

Why do you homeschool and until which grade?

First, I want to point out I am from Houston, TX, the fourth largest city in the country. I live close enough to downtown that I have bicycled past the skyline. My mom homeschooled my older sister and then me because our school down the street wasn't teaching my older sister very well and my sister was having trouble learning to read. When I was in second grade, she put us back in school.I had no problems making friends, but was constantly in trouble for “fidgeting” and “dawdling”. I was frustrated and bored by the other kids’ bad reading skills. I got head lice for the first time. I learned nothing new that year except that Pokémon were cool, Aaron Carter was gay, and that my being white in a mostly Hispanic class was unacceptable to some kids.At the end of the year (without parents present) my teacher apologized to the class saying we were behind on the curriculum, but that was ok because every class was behind and the third grade teacher knew how to deal with it. When I told my mom this, that was a last straw, and we were homeschooled through high school. I was involved in Girl Scouts where I was involved with a troop and a dance team, Boy Scouts, karate, both a home school and community college band where I played clarinet, and did countless volunteer events.I made friends, I had sleepovers, I chased my dreams. I also slept in until 9:00am, did school in my pajamas while eating breakfast, and finished around dinner time. (My siblings finished before lunch… I am a procrastinator and watched a lot more TV at my desk.) Now, I am a college senior and am about to graduate with honors. Whatever the pros and cons, I feel my parents did what was best for me.

What do colleges think of Cyber School?

I HAD THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO!

I was in High School (in 10th grade), and I just wasn't getting anywhere. I got relatively good grades, but it just was not my learning style, and I knew I would do better in Online High School.

So I started Online High School in February, and it was the BEST decision of my life (so far)! I get way better grades, I still see my friends, and I'm graduating a year earlier (so I'm actually in 11th grade now).

Even if you're in honor classes, I understand that public school is not right for everyone. I think it is a flawed system, and my own mother even saw that eventually. And she was beyond adament that I stayed at the high school.

Here is how I convinced her:
I made a powerpoint of why I DESERVE homeschooling (online high school) and listed reasons of why it would be beneficial. I made a FAQ slide with it for questions and reactions that I knew my mom would have, and she came through and realized that if I was mature enough to come up with that, and I was serious about it and didn't just want to slack off, then she would let me try it.

But let me tell you the only thing, which was the biggest issue for me after coming from Public School: IT TAKES LOADS OF SELF-DISCIPLINE! It is so easy to slack off, and not do your work because you have nobody telling you what to do. It takes a lot of strength and perseverance to discipline yourself that way. But I have grown up so much since I've been home schooled (Online High School) and it has been one hell of an experience.

However, I WOULD RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY! I had SO MUCH B.S. from teachers at the high school, that even though I was in honors classes, I still had a hard time...

I am going to be attending The University of California - Irvine. That is a prestigious school in California, and not many students are transfered in. However, I have a strong home school GPA, and I already have admission.

Hang in there, just be sure to think about your decision, before you make it! :D Good Luck!

Do highschoolers get recess?

Not recess like elementary school. We have five periods with a 10 minute passing period to get to the next class. Our lunch is 40 minutes. We have to take two years of PE to graduate here in CA. My brother is in the 5th grade and he gets a 15 minute morning recess and a 40 minute lunch. Elementary school here has 50 minutes of PE per week. I really wouldn't have any interest in playing four square or anything like that. lol. Lunch is good enough for hanging out with my friends. I get my exercise after school. I go to dance nearly everyday.

How does a community affect teachers and schools?

The schools belong to the community and are usually run by a School Board which sets policy for the district. That Board is composed of elected citizens from the community where the schools are located. They are in charge of setting the budget, for approving the hiring and firing of personnel, and for setting all policies by which the schools are run. Thus they have much power and influence in running the schools which, of course, affects the teachers and students alike. In addition, there are usually parent organizations such as Boosters who support various endeavors of the school such as Band Boosters, Sports Boosters, or more specifically, Football Boosters. Parent Advisory Councils also exist in many schools made up of parents. Thus there are many ways in which a community affects teachers and schools.
