Lost my iphone a couple days ago and want to know what this means?

i lost my iphone a couple days ago and tracked it via Find My iPhone. it was last turned on in the area i lost it. by now someone has it. and unfortunately people are not generous enough to return it. I've accepted the fact that i will never see it again. Therefor, i am now deleting it. iCloud is giving me this message "PENDING: ERASE IPHONE" "this iphone will be erased when it connects to the internet"
a day ago it said "waiting on iphone to be turned on to locate it" because i had it in "lost mode"
what is happening? did someone turn on the iphone and thats why it says "it will be erased when it connects to the internet" and how is it going to be connected to the internet when i have a passcode on it? will it ever get erased? will people be able infiltrate my phone?

I factory reset my samsung phone and everything got deleted. any way to restore it?

1. To restore contacts u can go to setting, account and sync option, enter ur google account(the one u used before the reset), then it'll sync ur saved contacts/requires internet connection(u can delete any desired contact like facebook contacts using any third party app like go contact, contact remover, etc later on)
2. There're plenty freewares from playstore unless ur previous apps are paid/sharewares plus many online websites provide android apps n games(just search on google web search)
3. I've been using android for more than a couple of years and never get infected by any virus. With or without antivirus, any smartphone with any Operating System still have chances to get malfunctions which mostly are system confliction; any malfunction caused by overwrite input between one app and another or third party app conflict system app which run in the same field(e.i third party camera app which has more advanced features vs default stock camera app which end up in confliction that influence general system; just an example).
2. A factory reset usually solves most problems. I've done it more than thirty times(i guess), get hard brick and soft brick but after i managed to solve them, my phone's still running well till now.

Can the police track cell phones?

Police can track a 911 call from a cell phone, however I do not think that they can or would just track your phone because you lost it.

I deleted my WhatsApp. If I reinstall once again, can I be able to see my old messages and pics which I sent and received before?

Yes of course if you had not deleted database of your previous WhatsApp. Of so then while reinstalling it will ask you to restore backup. And as soon as WhatsApp detected previous messages it will reinstall

Can a thief unlock an iPhone?

Yes they can.If owner used an easy to guess passcode like 1111, 1212, 1234 or birthday, not just professsinal thief but everyone can unlock it.Do not use important dates as passcode. Even if they don't know you, they can easily get these dates from social media. Also thanks to widgets and notifications, they can get lots of information from the lock screen of the iPhone. They can get your name, your social media accounts, snippets of your new emails and SMS.Also nowadays professional thieves reach out to the victims via email. They made the email looks like from Apple and invite them to use “Find my iPhone” feature for their stolen phone. When the victims fall for it and gave their information, their phone could be easily unlocked or reset.

What does 'Erase all content and settings' on an iPhone do exactly?

While most of the other answers already explain the results rather effectively, I wanted to add a bit of technical info to the mix….Technically, what the Erase all content and settings option does under the hood is destroy the encryption keys that are used to encrypt ALL data stored on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The data remains on the device, but it’s rendered completely inaccessible as it’s encrypted and the keys used to encrypt that data have been permanently and securely erased. From page 10 of Apple’s iOS Security Guide:[1]The “Erase all content and settings” option in Settings obliterates all the keys in Effaceable Storage, rendering all user data on the device cryptographically inaccessible. Therefore, it’s an ideal way to be sure all personal information is removed from a device before giving it to somebody else or returning it for service. Important: Do not use the “Erase all content and settings” option until the device has been backed up, as there is no way to recover the erased data. This is actually an important distinction, as it explains how an iOS device can be securely erased in a matter of seconds. Anybody who has ever tried to “secure wipe” a hard drive knows that it can take quite a bit of time for your computer to go through the entire hard drive and write over the data several times, block by block. In fact, prior to iOS 3.0 and the iPhone 3GS — the first iPhone that included hardware encryption — the Erase all content and settings option used to take a couple of hours to go through your entire flash storage and erase the data block by block.Hardware encryption was introduced to make “remote wipe” more effective as a realistic security option. After all, if somebody was really trying to get access to your data, a remote wipe that takes a couple of hours to securely erase everything on your device would not truly be a secure option — an investigator or identity thief could disassemble the device, cut power, and remove the flash storage chips before the processor could erase all of the data, and then use forensic tools to read the data from the flash storage directly.Footnotes[1] https://www.apple.com/business/d...

Would ATT replace a phone?

First off, you would need to pay the deductible for the phone insurance. You would call the company that the insurance is under (most often this is Asurion, however there are others out there as well, check your contract paperwork for details on this), give them the information on the loss, shipping address, and payment of the deductible.

The average time between the filing of the claim to the replacement phone arriving is around 2-5 days.

Make sure that if the phone is stolen or lost that AT&T is informed so the phone can be blocked from use. If the phone was stolen (or suspected of being stolen), it would be a good idea to file a police report about it.
