Can A Uk Sonographer Work In The Usa Help

Why do sonographers need to work out which side you ovulated from when you got pregnant?

Hi there. You don't hear the heartbeat on a scan, you see it. The heartbeat can be heard with a doppler and you should be able to hear it soon.
Are you in the US? In the UK they don't seem to bother looking for the side that you ovulated from and they don't monitor your blood HCG levels either - they are much more laid back.

Which career path should I take? Respiratory therapist or sonographer?? Please help.?

I have always known I wanted to go into the medical field.. I've narrowed it down to either a respiratory therapist or a sonographer.. I'm just so confused on which one i should go for. I'm already 23 and I feel like I need to hurry and make a decision. I have a young son and I want to provide a better life for him.
I just don't know which one i should i go for. I'm not sure if I would like to work in a hospital, but I would to work in some type of clinic.... What are the pros and cons?
Which one do you recommend??
Thank you.

What is required to work as a diagnostic medical sonographer in Spain?

A degree in Técnico Superior en Ultrasonidos, a two-years course you can do if you have the level of studies necessary to access university. You can homologate a similar title from another country, but they usually only do it inside the EU or with titles from Ibero-America.

What are the pros and cons as a Diagnostic medical sonographer?

For me, the main downsides to this career are:
-Demanding / stressful. It's our responsibility to find what's wrong with our patients. It's not like a CT/MRI scanner where the machine just takes specific images. If we miss something, it's our fault.
-Working on call. It just sucks, plain and simple.
-Physically demanding. Constantly moving/pushing patients and our machines. On our feet a decent amount of time. Scanning a lot of overweight people also makes our job a lot harder and stresses our bodies...and it's becoming more of the norm.
-Emotionally draining at times.

But I love my job. It's rewarding, fun, challenging, different every day, and never boring!

What's it like being a diagnostic medical sonographer?

I'm a Registered Sonographer. There isn't really a "typical day" in this job because we do a variety of scans every day. But that's what I love about it - it's challenging and doesn't get boring.

The schooling is demanding and difficult, much like any other medical program. But it's do-able. Make sure you find an accredited program: http://www.caahep.org/Find-An-Accredited...

You should know that we do lots more than babies/obstetrics - in fact, in a hospital setting, that is the type of scan that is done the least. If you still want to do obstetrics when you finish the schooling, you would need to find a job in an ob/gyn doctor's office. http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos273.htm

Try looking into job shadowing so you can really see what it's like before you get started.
Good luck :)

Is it hard for a man to become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer? (Cardiac)?

With Echocardiography, you will be scanning all around the chest area. This requires your patients to be in a gown and you will scan through various "windows" to see the heart (below the breast, just above the breast, etc.) So it could definitely be uncomfortable with female patients. Some Vascular exams also require being in close contact with your patient, such as the groin area for a leg exam.

While there are plenty of males in the general concentration of ultrasound (DMS), there are typically more in Echo and Vascular. But if DMS is what interests you more, you should go for that. You can always cross-train or go back through a certificate program to learn other concentrations later.

Do you have right to work in the USA? If you only have a normal visa?

Not sure what a “normal visa” is. But a tourist visa (B-2) is NOT allowed to work in the US. See Visitor Visa for more details.

Can a UK citizen work in the USA? Do they still need a work/H1B visa?

I spent 5y as a post-doctoral working on an H1B1 visa in the USA. It is important to understand that the americans want to rent not buy.An H1B1 visa is a work permit for a contract job with a termination date. Universities are quite charming about it. They tell you that by law they must report you to Immigration if you stay any time at all over the expiration date of your visa. And they will do it. H1B1 will not help you get a real job in the USA and it is no help in getting a green card or permanent residency. It is strictly authorisation to work for fixed term contracts. If you are working in the USA on an H1B1 you are completely wasting your time applying for real jobs. That was OK for me because I had no interest in living in the place permanently. It is not a country where I would like to bring up children and it is not a place to grow old in or get sick. Treat the US as an interesting anthropological field trip to study Homo americanus. Very interesting species.Warning for Australian and British PhDs. They are quite willing to employ you as a post-doc. Naturally you foolishly think that they would also automatically recognise your PhD for a real job. Not necessarily. The problem is that UK & Australian PhDs have no coursework but the american anally retentive mind might not make an issue of that for a post-doc job but if you have the temerity to apply for a real job they are liable to consider your PhD incomplete because it does not have exactly the same format as American ones. You have to actually explicitly ask - they will not tell you. I applied for jobs in the USA for years (got nowhere) and then accidentally found out what the problem was. Hours and hours of my time wasted.

Is it possible to get a work permit or visa without IELTS?

For newcomers except US citizens, IELTS or CELPIP to proof English language proficiency to gain the Canadian permanent residency card and eventually the work permit.

Do I necessarily need a Master’s degree to continue to work in the USA while on an H1B visa?

As of now. the only requirements for a H1B visa are a 4-year bachelor's degree or equivalent and a sponsoring employer who is willing to pay 90K or more.
