Can An Accounant Be A Regiester Agent

Incorporation: Can I use my registered agent's address for my business address? (Instead of applying for a PO Box)

No, you should probably not use your registered agent. The terms of their agreement with you probably include a qualification that they will only forward legal process, state notices, and other "official" notices that they receive. There are possibly services that will also forward other mail, but they will do so for a fee,  and not for the $99 fee your registered agent charges for the basic service.NY (and all other states) require you to qualify a business in the state if you are conducting business in the state on a regular basis, thus subjecting the business to state taxes. If your business is in NY and that is where you operate, you need to qualify the business in NY. It doesn't matter if your address is in Delaware, what matters is where you are actually conducting business. Some businesses try to get around this qualification requirement by having an address for the business in Delaware or elsewhere. But that is not a very good idea as many businesses eventually either get caught or fess-up, and then you'll owe back taxes, penalties and interest. Not to mention that if you are knowingly maintaining a Delaware address as a means of avoiding tax payments there is a possible argument that you are committing tax fraud, which could lead to criminal penalties. So, you should probably just get an address wherever you are operating. Of course, you can certainly get an address elsewhere if that is convenient for you, so long as your business is qualified and paying taxes in whichever state where it is actually conducting business.Oh, and you should really have a lawyer with whom you can talk about this stuff.

How do you become a certified personal accountant CPA?

CPA (cerified professional accountant)

First, things first... you do not need to be a CPA to do Accounting or Auditing. The CPA along with a bunch of other types of licensing prove that you known your profession and you will simply have higher credentials and along with that more income. In order to become a CPA you need a combination of education, work experience, and you have to pass the exams - which are extremely difficult over a certain duration of time. In NYS, you currently need a masters degree OR a BS with supplemental credits (additional credits). You need in total 150 credits in certain areas of study. I gave you a link that you can look by state.

I am CMA (certified management accountant) not a CPA. I selected the CMA because I worked in cost accounting and it fit my job better then a CPA. I gave you this link as well below.

Also, no one needs to be a CPA to do taxes - it is a BIG misconception. :-) In order to do taxes, you need to know your state and revenue laws and codes. Once again, it always looks better though to have a CPA or other type of license because if proves you know what you are doing.

Also, with any licensing, it requires continued education yearly. I believe CPA's have to have 40 credit hours per year and CMA's is 30 (but more emphasis on ethics).

You pay for your tests, your study material, your licensing fee (CMA is yearly) and your continued education credits - it is costly but then again you normally make more money.

Look at the field you want to be in and determine if it will help you.

Hope this helps clarify.

What is the difference between bookeeping and accounting?

In a practical setting, there is a significant difference in what a bookkeeper and an accountant can do. In terms of tax, a bookkeeper is qualified to complete BAS and submit BAS to the tax office for processing. They can prepare a tax return but this can only be submitted by a tax agent. A tax agent is an accountant with an additional qualification.

A tax agent (accountant) can prepare and lodge income tax returns, BAS, and handle taxation matters with the tax office for registered clients.

Not all accountants are tax agents. Accountants have responsibility for signing off on company audits and accounting records, and this also applies to individuals who are their clients. Accountancy has many fields, bookkeeping is a far narrower range of responsibilities and opportunities. Often bookkeepers will work for an accountant.

Accountancy is a degree qualification, while bookkeeping is usually to diploma standard and it is a much shorter course as a result.

Help me choose a buisness concentration accounting vs real estate?

i go to a san diego state, i love real estate and always had a passion for it. I definitely know i will get involved in real estate some day. the only down side to a career in real estate is job security. my school offers a buisness degree in real estate and thats what im currently pursuing, but in the back of my mind, i feel that accounting would be a much better degree for me because of the job security and stability in case real estate doesnt work out for me. Therefore i am torn between choosing my passion real estate or choosing a major to fallback on such as accounting.

i know i can also do accounting as my main degree and have real estate as my minor. passion/unlimited potential vs job security and stability? which one would you choose and why thanks a lot for your input

Do I really need a registered agent for a single member LLC in New York?

The state of New York is fairly unique among the states in that it does NOT require its entities (LLCs, business corporations, not for profit corporations, RLLPs, PLLCs and more) to designate a registered agent.Instead, entities that are formed under the laws of New York, as well as those registered to do business in New York, must designate the Secretary of State of the State of New York as their agent for service of process, and provide a mailing address within the United States to which the Secretary of State will mail a copy of such process to.Because it is a mailing address, it does not need to be a physical address and can be a post office box. You can designate any address you like; it does not have to be connected to the business - you can use your lawyer, accountant, mother-in-law, baby sitter or ex-wife. The key thing is that whatever address you use, the recipient needs to understand the importance of getting legal process to you (as the sole member) as soon as possible, and for you to get yourself a lawyer to defend yourself at the first opportunity. This address for process is shared with the New York State tax authorities, so expect to receive mail from them after formation. They will send a questionnaire about your LLC that you will need to complete and return.A company can ALSO choose to designate a registered agent, but this is completely optional. A lot of big law firms will have themselves designated as the address for process and the registered agent, to make sure that if one of their clients is getting sued they get a copy of the summons as quickly as possible. The benefits of using a registered agent, or at least having professionals act as your address for process include:An agent will most likely have an efficient processing system that will route the summons to you as quickly as possible;Your address will not be publicly posted for all to see. This has been very important to a lot of people for a variety of reasons;Agents don’t move around very often, but small businesses often do. There’s a fee to change the address with the Secretary of State, plus you have to remember to do so on top of all the other confusion when moving. As for cost, look around. $200 per year and up is very expensive.
