Can An Upper Endoscopy Cause Stomach Discomfort And Loss Of Appetite Even A Week After The

Can an upper endoscopy cause stomach discomfort and loss of appetite, even a week after the procedure?

I had an endoscopy on Thursday of last week, for a problem that my family doctor insisted was gastric in nature (I had pressure when I breathed, so she suggested an endoscopy to examine the diaphragm). Until this point in time, I had zero stomach pain/stomach problems.

When I went into the operating room, I remember signing a consent form and then remember them spraying a bitter medication onto the back of my throat, which later numbed it, before sticking an IV in me. By this point I was groggy. I then remember him starting to insert the mouthpiece, and that is when I lost all memory of what happened. Next time I was aware, I was laying in my bed at home and just awoke from my nap.. Apparently, I got wheeled out into a hospital room and rested, before being walked out by my mom and driven home so I can go to bed... but I remember NONE of this. These last six hours were lost time. The freaky part is, my eyes were wide open the whole time according to my mom. Does anybody know what sedative they might have given me to cause these sensations?

Anyways, my real question is this: It's been 6 days since the procedure and since then I have had a mild, dull constant pain in my abdomen. I passed it off as gas cramps initially, but now it's really starting to become bothersome. It's a gnawing pain that really makes me not feel like eating. My meals are substantially reduced because I can no longer tolerate anything more than small portions. My stomach is all gurgly and growly, but there's a band of pain that remains intact in my abdomen. It makes falling asleep uncomfortable, eating uncomfortable, and even light exercise uncomfortable. I pass stools fine, but I find that the pain gets so bothersome sometimes that I induce vomiting on myself, with little relief.

Is this something that is normal after having an endoscopy, and will it go away? I am very upset that I had NO pain beforehand, but now I'm riddled with it.

No appetite after endoscopy and colonoscopy? Please help!?

I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy yesterday and, of course, I wasn't allowed to have any food the day before or the day of the procedure. After the procedure was over, I was hungry and had food (not a lot, though).

That night for dinner, I just didn't have an appetite and it took me a really long time just to finish my plate. The next morning I had oatmeal and could only eat half of it and then I felt nauseated.

Then for lunch today, I had even less of an appetite and felt more nauseated. I only finished half of my lunch, if not less. In art class (I am a 13 year old female student), I had several waves of dizziness. It wasn't when I turned my head, it was more like if you tilted your head to the side really fast. The dizziness lasted 2 seconds.

I thought I must be faint from having hardly any food so I forced myself to eat the remainder of my lunch on the bus ride home. The dizziness has gone away now, but I still barely have an appetite.

I do not have any conditions that would cause this. The reason I needed the endo and colonoscopy is to make sure I am completly healthy again after an infection in my intestines. No inflammation or infections were found. So I guess you could say I'm completely healthy again.

The last time I had this procedure done, I never had a loss of appetite.

I also had some stomach pain today, probably from the tube bumping inside of me. I don't know if that is part of the loss of appetite.

So is it normal for this to happen after an endoscopy and colonoscopy? Or did something go wrong in the procedure that I am not aware of?

Please tell me what is going on.

Thank you to anyone who answers :)

Anyones child ever have an endoscopy?

Oh try not to worry I know it's hard when it's your own baby that's having the test but hope for the best outcome. I honestly don't think it's cancer bc stomach cancers are very RARE, almost non-existent, with children and young people. Leukemia is more common but that wouldnt produce just stomach symptoms; inf act it would maybe not produce any stomach symptoms.
The red areas could be GERD; maybe he's had it this whole time and it was a mild case or bc of his autism (I am just guessing here---honestly dont know much about autism) he didnt cry out as much about it. Gerd can damage the esophagus to a point and cause "red areas". It can also do that to his stomach. Or it could be another food allergy of some sort. You've ruled out celiac and lactose but what about gluten?
also has he been chronically constipated? bc long-term chronic constipation can cause inflammation of stomach and esophagus. You didnt mention that here and you probably would've noticed it but that would be another possibility. Maybe his autism caused him to hold in his poop even more than non-autistic kids (which is not that uncommon for newly potty-traiened kdis to do).

ABDOMINAL PAIN AFTER COLONOSCOPY?

Feeling bloated and having some cramping after colonoscopy is very common. Many patient's will experience pain/discomfort immediately after colonoscopy until then are able to expel the air or CO2 that are used to insufflate the colon during the exam. This pain generally resolves rather quickly.

Experiencing severe pain for many hours after colonoscopy is not normal and should be taken seriously especially if it is associated with fevers, chills, nausea, or vomiting. If severe pain persists, a patient should contact their physician to inform him or her of the pain and other symptoms so that additional studies can be ordered. Imaging studies such as a CT scan may be necessary to ensure that there is no evidence of colonic perforation. If a polypectomy was performed, pain can persist secondary to the burn from the snare which is called post-polypectomy syndrome.

Although both perforation and post polypectomy syndrome are extremely rare, they need to be excluded in patient's who are having prolonged severe pain following colonoscopy.

Hope this helps!

Stomach pain lasting 2 months?

I am 22
I had what I thought was a stomach flu that lasted 3-4 weeks. real bad cramping in whole abdominal, loss of appetite, trouble sleeping due to pain, somewhat constipated, grey colored stool. The pain gradually went away and now I have gas that i burp and fart out, bloating, pain in my abdominal area and underneath my sternum, trouble sleeping (not because of pain. I fall asleep and wake up an hour later. I have had to take sleeping pills for a couple weeks), aches in parts of my nerves in my body that come and go, minor headaches. *the two main issues is the stomach pain and loss of sleep*

I went in for ultrasound, no gallstones, so now I am going to see a gastro doctor and get an endoscopy because I do not know what is wrong. I have seen other people with same symptoms and they see the doctor and the doctor does not know what is wrong. I hope there is a resolution to this issue.

In the mean time I think I might try Activia, Aloe Vera juice, digestive enzymes, and pro biotics to helps digest better.

Why am I getting all this gas? it has to be an issue with some type of bacteria that is feeding off of stuff in me and releasing the gas. I am loss for thought here. help me out. thanks
