Can Anyone Tell Me About Cu-boulder

Stony Brook or CU-Boulder?Help me to CHOOSE?

I am international student (science major), admitted by both schools above and still hesitating to choose. I heard boulder is a nice place but the tuition for out-state students is much higher than that of Stony Brook. And is Boulder a party school?

I'm glad to hear any suggestion from you.

Tell me about sororites at cu boulder?

I don't go to CU Boulder, but I found some info about them on the University's Greek Affairs website. The sororities at CU Boulder in the Panhellenic Association are:
Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Omicron Pi
Alpha Phi
Chi Omega
Delta Delta Delta
Delta Gamma
Gamma Phi Beta
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Pi Beta Phi

Historically Black Greek Letter Organizations:
Delta Sigma Theta
Alpha Kappa Alpha

Latina Greek Letter Organizations:
Pi Lambda Chi
Sigma Lambda Gamma

Asian Interest Greek Letter Organization:
Sigma Psi Zeta

Local Sororities:
Alpha Delta Chi
Sigma Rho Lambda

My advice to you is to do your research on the local chapter and national's webpage and to rush with an open mind. Find what's right for you and enjoy! Good luck.

Will I be able to transfer to CU Boulder?

It may be a stretch for you to be accepted as a transfer to CU-Boulder. According to information from the well-respected College Board, the school accepts as students less than 1/3 of those who have applied as transfer students. Plus, in looking at the comparative information on the current academic year's freshmen, only 7% of those students had high school GPAs of 2.5-2.99. The other 93% of the freshman class came in with HS GPAs of 3.0 or higher. I am assuming the same weight is placed on a transfer student's college/univ. GPA.

Also, I am assuming you are a Calif. resident. I am sure you do realize what the CU-Boulder tuition is for students who are not currently Colorado residents - $30,330 per year (2011-2012 current school year.) If you do not have that amount of money plus money for housing, meals, books and course related supplies, personal expenses, etc., then the school is also out of your financial reach. Sorry.

Can I get into CU-Boulder? I have like a 3.3 GPA and a 25 on the ACT .?

They don't have a minimum gpa or act score (though their average is 3.6 and 26 respectively).

I'm sure like most colleges its more than just your gpa, but an overall accounting of what you have achieved, what extracurricular activities, and your leadership. Certain specific majors/colleges at CU have higher requirements than others, so you may get in but just not initially in the college or major you apply for. They seem to make accommodations and be flexible in this respect.

What is undergraduate physics like at CU Boulder?

The greatest thing about studying physics at CU is the number of research groups available to you. I was able to join a research group in the department as a freshman, less than a month into the school year. Then, I was able to get a job at the National Institue of Standards and Technology, where I've worked the past two and a half years. I'm a coauthor on three papers currently in review, and I'm still only a junior. The best thing is, my situation is not unique. Almost everyone in my class is in a research group, whether it's studying liquid crystals, neutrinos, or spintronics. There's so many great research opportunities both within CU and at the many surrounding laboratories, whether that be NIST, NOAA, NCAR, NREL, or half a dozen others. This is where CU really stands out.I can't really compare the quality of education at CU to other physics departments, but I do know that I've really enjoyed the professors I've had for my upper division classes. Both the associate chair and the previous chair of the department tell me to stop by whenever I want to talk, and frequently I do. I have a great rapport with them and several other professors. Not all faculty is great, and I certainly had some less-than-desirable educators for a few lower division classes. But one of the physics department’s main group is physics education research (they're the developers of PhET), and it shows in their desire to provide solid foundations to their undergraduate physics majors.

I'm trying to get accepted in CU Boulder. My GPA is 2.5 and my SAT score is a 1050. Will I get in?

Based on the data your SAT is on 25% range. Since the admit rate is 77% you have a decent chance of getting in.I would suggest the followingCall the admission office and ask for a interview and explain your GPA, score and areas of interest. They may consider your application.Talk to the dept you are interested to major in.UCBSize (all students) 33,056Full-time Under-graduates 25,059% Admitted-Total 77Avg SAT (CR+M) 1190SAT (CR+M) 25th Percentile 1070SAT (CR+M) 75th Percentile 1310

Should I invest in a sports pass at CU Boulder?

I would highly recommend it, even if you are not a big football or sports fan. This is especially true if you are an incoming freshmen or transfer student. If you do not know many people when you arrive on campus, football is a great place to socialize and be entertained. Ask around your dorms or new classes and you will find plenty of people who also have the sports pass, and are looking for people to go with.CU football student section is fairly big and diverse from the hardcore fans up front to the more laid back social fans at the back of the section. You will hang out and meet up with many friends and acquaintances that you find while at CU. So no matter your interest level it is a great place to be with typically great fall Colorado weather.CU traditions, this is probably the least of your concerns now, but might be the biggest considerations for the future. Among the many great memories of my school years at CU were watching Ralphie run out onto the field before games and at half time and chanting the CU fight song after a big play, and especially after a big win, like my senior year when Colorado Upsets No. 3 Oklahoma - Colorado. When the crowd gets excited and pumped up screaming at the top of their lungs, everything feels electric and there is no other experience quite like it!All in all it is a great investment in both your entertainment, your social life at CU and fostering memories and experiences that you will keep with you well past you time at CU. Regardless I hope you have a wonderful time at CU and take advantage of all it has to offer.
