Can Anyone Tell Me What Do People Usually Do In A Fashion Marketing Club

PR and Marketing double major, unnecessary?

Some public relations specialists enter the profession with a degree in a closely related discipline, such as journalism, advertising, or communications. Others enter with degrees in areas such as politics, English, or business. Some employers look for candidates with expertise in subjects related to their industry, such as science, engineering, information technology, or health care.

Depending on what type of business you plan on going into/owning, you should base your education on that. I will advise you, as a publicist myself, if you plan on owning your own PR firm, you will need lots of education on the field you will be servicing and you will need even more education in PR for you will be the role model for all your employees. Education, as you stated doesn't mean university training, it simply means you have to have a strong background to know how to run a business right.

Essentially, if you want to go into fashion - take a fashion course in college. If you want to go into consumer sales - take a business marketing course in college. If you want to go into law - you best take a law course (or two) in college.

I'll be completely honest with you too; your internships will teach you everything. Your college education will be what will get you the internship you dream of.

Anything is possible my dear. Work hard and aim high!

Keep in touch! (:

Do people from New York have a good sense of fashion?

For a long time the official center of the fashion industry was Paris. That lasted about five hundred years or so. Sometime in the second half of the last century the Americans got uppity and planted a fashion flag in New York City. While Paris is still the ultimate in fashion, New York City is now a strong participant. Now, your question was actually different. Do people from New York have a good sense of fashion?Speaking as a NYC chauvinist who pretends occasionally to be an honest man, I can say that on average the answer is no.The key is ‘on average’ because I am included in the set of New York people and my fashion sense hovers somewhere around negative infinity, which distorts the average. There are some very interesting fashion trends set by the young folks here in NYC and they often conquer the world. But you won’t see quite the standard of classical fashion sense in NYC that you will see in Paris or Milan.Of course, having written this I will have to change my name, since the rest of the club of NYC chauvinists (of which I am a founding member) will quickly come gunning for me. Look for me in the phone book under “mud.”

What can you do with a fashion degree?

With a degree in fashion design, you could work for a design house as a designer or an assistant designer, or you could do another job in fashion - fashion stylist, journalist, fashion magazine editor. You could manage a high end boutique, become a buyer for Macy's. You could work in fashion-related marketing or PR... lots of possible options.

For a lot of those, you start low and work your way up. In some cases, like journalism, you'd probably want to do a dual major - journalism/English and fashion, or at least minor in the other subject.

In all cases, you absolutely want to do an internship in that field while you study. That will be key to your ability to enter the field when you graduate. You also want to do as much career-related work on campus as you possibly can - join related clubs, and be active in them.

You also want to go to a respectable school, so no "Westwood College Online". Instead, you go to Kent State, Parsons, Fashion Institute of Technology, Drexel, Otis College of Art, RISD, U Cincinnatti or similar - someplace with a good rep in fashion.

Do people get paid to use Instagram?

Instagram is a photo and video sharing social networking platform but it has a lot more to offer. One such thing is getting paid as an Instagram influencer for sharing posts with a huge amount of niche crowd. Truth be told this is considered to be a glorified online job.Engagement with followers is more important but to approach brands you need at least over 5000 followers. Influencers charge around $10 per 1,000 followers.Globally Companies or brands spend $1 to $1.5 billion per year on sponsoring content on Instagram which is a huge amount.A very simple truth behind this is, pay rates totally depend on how established an Instagram influencer is.The more famous an instagrammer, the more he/she can charge for his/her posts.

Why would anyone buy a Rolex, or any such high end, watch?

You have probably never worn a Rolex. The difference in feel between a Rolex (or any luxury watch) and a Timex is so pronounced that no one who had experienced both would ever say there was no difference between them no matter how insensitive they were to such things. I personally don't like Rolexes much (although I do have a weakness for the Daytona), and I might wonder why someone would choose one over a TAG or a Patek Phillipe. A Seiko actually keeps better time than a Rolex, for the most part, but the feel of the watch is one of the design elements cheap watch makers save money on. Anyway. There is prestige. Everyone knows what a Rolex is, and everyone knows they cost a lot of money. Not so many people know what a Breitling is (but the people you really care about knowing do, so you get the benefits described by Steve Black). Rolex has excellent marketing. They may very well have invented social and networked marketing. Rolex owners are a club. Some of them actually meet up to compare and talk about their watches. Meeting up with a club full of rich people is worth an awful lot to some people. Rolex owners also get special attention from the jewelers they do business with - more marketing. And a Rolex is an investment, usually, not an expense. If you are the first to have any model in a given year you are guaranteed a profit if you choose to sell - people will pay a significant amount of money not to have to wait. But as long as you learn something about them before buying, and understand what makes one Rolex more desirable than the others, you can almost always sell your watch for more than you paid for it as long as it's in good condition.

How can I start a clothing line?

Starting a clothing line is a real challenge. Let's face it: Starting a fashion line is hard and interesting but takes preparation (and money). You will need to thoroughly research your market and find the right niche for your clothing line. The demographics and the pricing play an important part in the final decision. Choosing a concept that you believe in makes it exciting to get started and easier to keep going.

A good way to get fresh ideas for your designs is to go shopping. Spend time in the malls checking on what people wear and what people buy. Do not rely too much on this method though as it is common for people to wear clothes now that were fashionable a few months ago. Be careful about your timing, by the time you finally launch your label, the fashion style you were involved in may already be out of date.

Branding your clothing line Branding your clothing line starts by making a clear decision on your clothing line's concept and target. A thirty seconds statement about your brand will help your brand and logo match together. Don't be afraid to be visionary and think (at least one year) ahead of your time.

A tag line, or short statement about your fashion line is also a great tool to sell your products and should be used as part of your sales pitch. Choose a name for your brand that is catchy and gives an angle to your designs. Then, conduct trademark research to ensure that it isn't already registered.

Good luck! You will be surprised to discover that the name you imagined is probably already registered by a dozen of companies. Some of them may nothing to do with the fashion business.

While it is pretty reassuring to see that the name you have chosen is popular, this also means that you will have to research further to find a unique label name.

When you are done, register your clothing brand's name with the United States Patent office. It isn't very expensive so feel free to register more than one name.

The success of your clothing line will depend on the exposure you can give to it. Nowadays, you need to be very present on the net so go and choose a domain name which keywords include part of your tag line.

Finally, register your company name with your city's chamber of commerce and take advice from an accountant to find out what tax returns you have to file and when.

What are my chances of getting into FIT?

The bad news is that FIT is very competitive and with a weighted GPA of 2.8, your unweighted GPA is probably too low for consideration. The only other fashion school worth attending is Parsons, which is also in NYC and is just as competitive. This field is so overcrowed that if you do not go to one of these schools, you should consider a different career if you want to find employment.

FIDM is a for-profit, proprietary school. Its degrees carry little, if any, respect. It is a total waste of time and money.

I am sorry for the bad news, but the sooner you learn it, the sooner you can explore other opportunities such as a general business degree from your state college, which will also be much less expensive. In any event an associate degree from FIT is not of much value as you will be competing with people with bachelor's degrees from that school.

Best wishes.
