Can Dogs Get Rabies From Coming Into Close Contact

How can I tell if a dog has rabies?

You cannot tell if a dog has rabies, but you can be alert to behaviour that might raise your suspicions, for example, if it is acting aggressively toward other animals or humans, clearly without any fear or reserve or shyness. Unfortunately, stray/street dogs are common in India, (and Nepal, and parts of China, and especially Tibet). Roughly 36% of the world's rabies deaths occur in India each year. (WHO)*Ample evidence shows that culling and controlling loose/stray dogs is not an efficient way to reduce risk from rabies; they breed faster than they can be culled. Vaccination of at least 70% of dogs and a program of sterilizing them is the answer, but authorities have failed to implement and enforce such programs. (Vaccination can be done for loose/stray dogs through distribution of vaccine-containing baits.)You can explore the possibility of acquiring active immunity to rabies through pre-exposure vaccination, especially if you will be walking in rural areas or coming into contact with animals.Airborne transmission from dogs has not been demonstrated.India’s ongoing war against rabies

Safe to take puppy to the dog park before rabies vaccination?

No, it isn't.

Can dogs catch rabbies from eating a squirrel?

Actually yes...if the squirrel was rabid. The disease is passed through the saliva and blood. If your dog comes into contact or ingests these and it can contact the disease. Make sure you dog is up to date in shots as well as taking the squirrels' head to the vet (the disease is tracked in the brain). If that's not possible make sure to quarantine your dog for 10 days and keep everyone away from him. Watch for signs of wanting less water, drooling, eye's moving like he can't focus, jerky body movements. If any of thes show up contact your vet and DO NOT attempt to get close to your dog in case he has rabies....you could get attacked. Seek the vet.

Can dogs gets rabies from a frog/toad?

Today, my mom was working in the backyard when She saw a frog or toad, and my dog saw it too. My mom tried to shoo it into the neighbors yard, but my dog had gotten really close to it, but we couldn't see if he had touched it or not. We know for a fact he did NOT eat it, kill it, and it didn't look like it was hurt. But after he got near it, his mouth started to foam crazily. He kept shaking his head, but kinda of in a snappingish motion, but not trying to bite anything. Soon after, my mom had bathed him, and scrubbed him down with vinegar to make sure it was gone off his fur. She also used a bit of vinegar to brush his teeth afterwords. He seems fine now but we don't know if he has rabies or not. He gets his rabies shot regularly and he is a Toy Fox Terrier. Can someone please help!

P.S. Were still making sure he doesn't bite my family, or our other dog.

Does My Boxer Dog Have Rabies ?

Just about 30 mintues ago my dog came in contact with a raccoon. We think it was rabid because it was stumbling around like it was drunk. She got all of her shots including her rabies shot. When she came in contact with the raccoon we heard the raccoon snarl and she jumped back. Then she went after it again and we think she bite it. We were just wondering if she can get rabies from bitting the rabid animal, or if she could get rabies any other way.
