Can high school students be tutors?

I'm a Junior in high school and I need to earn some money. I want to get a job, but many places don't hire people under 18 and those who do already have numerous applications given to them by other 16 and 17 year olds in my same predicament. So I was wondering what other types of jobs there are, and I thought tutoring.

But can high schoolers be tutors? Will anyone pay me when I'm not even out of high school yet. I plan on tutoring k-8 because I have helped my sister as well as my friends with there school work and I feel that I'm bright enough and understand the material that I have been taught in school well enough to tutor, but I don't know.

Would you hire a high school student to teach your elementary aged child?

I found college to be harder than high school. The reason? Because in college as a general rule you can do what you want. Don’t want to go to class? Nobody cares. Don’t want to do your homework? Nobody cares Want to sit in your room and drink beer? Knock yourself out. Whatever you do or don’t want to do is your responsibility. It is all on your shoulders. No one will come and shake their finger at you. You have become an adult and everything you do is up to you.A fair number of people flunk out of college because they can’t handle the transition from high school to college. They still have a high school mindset and expect to be told what to do. When this doesn’t happen they often do nothing or turn into party animals.

If your engineer co-founders of any age don't have the requisite chops or are unwilling to keep their skills up-to-date, you need to find new co-founders. Plus, young engineers come with their own set of problems that can be just as troublesome.IANAL, but you just openly acknowledge age discrimination in your hiring practices. If a 40-year old engineer interviewed with you yesterday and wasn't hired, he or she would have grounds for a discrimination complaint.

Many colleges and universities have summer programs for high school students. Some are programs with courses specifically designed for high school students. For example, Summer@Brown offers dozens of courses for high school students, often taught by Brown faculty. These often have the option of living on campus. Many schools also allow high school students to take regular undergraduate level courses along with their own students during the summer. These are for credit and the student pays tuition. The only issue is that, if you earn credit at University X, University Y may not accept the credit. Some states have early college options, so high school students can take regular undergraduate courses and have them fulfill high school credits and also count as college credit. You can look at some options on mysummeradvisor.com. You can go to the “Academic Programs” tab and search by interest. Also, look at the website of a college or university near you and search for “Summer Programs”.

Thanks for the A2A.In high school I would focus on mathematics. Mathematics is very important and having a solid background will pay dividends in college. I would recommend a strong background in Algebra. Calculus is not difficult, but the Algebra can be a little testy from time to time. Also, when you take a data structures/algorithms class the math will come in very handy. At least it did for me. In high school take a foreign language, if it is offered. In college try to minor in mathematics. It looks good on a resume, but all of the math will come in handy in your career. I would suggest taking statistics because it will pay dividends after you complete your education. You will probably be required to take a couple of semesters of a science. I would suggest physics. If my experience is any indication, physics will be more valuable than either biology or chemistry. Physics also permits the opportunity to apply some of the math skills you have been honing. A lot of the general classes like English, Sociology, History and Psychology may sound worthless, but they are extremely important. You will learn how write effectively and you can learn about how people think and interact. I actually took a Sociology class that was largely about body language. Understanding body language has been very valuable throughout my career and life in general. I frequently understand more from body language than the spoken language. You might also consider taking a foreign language. The economy is global. I learned early that when visiting a foreign country on business, being able to speak the native language can be of great value. You will garner the respect of your colleagues while in their country by speaking to them in their native tongue.Keep in mind when you set foot on campus on that first day that you have a 4.0 GPA. It's up to you whether you retain that 4.0 GPA. If you don't maintain it, then don't beat yourself up over it. That's a complete waste of time. Just do your best. Having good grades can help you get into grad school. It might not be something of interest to you as a freshman, but you may feel different as a senior. It's always good to keep your options open.Enjoy the experience of university life. Your years in higher education will go by very quickly and the experiences will last a lifetime.Good luck.

I used to try to be a good student in school. I avoided problems and limited my social circle during my elementary and middle school education. During elementary school I was a student who simply came to school, studied and went home after school hour was over. I didn’t care much about situations which happened around me.However things changed when I was in middle school. I got bullied, three idiots students from different class picked me as their target to bully just because I looked weak and shy. They extorted me, they came to me and asked me to give them my lunch money and nothing I could do. I reported to teachers about what happened, but teachers were reluctant to take any action except telling me to avoid them. Finally I decided I had enough, I fought them. I mean I physically fought one of them at school cafeteria. I was lucky the other two didn’t didn’t help the guy whom I fought with, instead they ran away after they saw me throwing everything I could grabbed with my hand. Should the other two boys have attacked me, I would be dead. That incident changed me, I was no longer a week and shy boy. I got more confident but I didn’t seek any problem. I stayed out of any potential trouble at school. In high school, I learnt from my past experiences in middle school to ensure the same thing would not occur to me for the second time.I didn’t want to look as shy boy anymore. I showed my confidence but I tried not to get cocky.I kept myself away from interacting with senior students unless it was very necessary. Some of senior students were nice and kind especially girls but I still kept some distances.I observed situations around me. I tried to identify things which could cause me some unnecessary troubles. My former high school was inside air force military base area so may kids there belonged to military families and some of them were assholes because their fathers were high rank air force officers.I focused on my study, tried hard to be one of top achievers but I didn’t sacrifice my social interaction.I didn’t act like an asshole. Some students who got into trouble at school, actually because they became assholes.

How can i find my high school teacher?

I want to find my senior year high school english teacher and i want to meet her again. She was my teacher in in 1969-1970 school year. High School Student in need of a summer job!!! Suggestions?

jobs to avoid....ALL of these listed here on Y!A they are SCAMS....

Legally in the US under FLSA a minor 14 or older may work in an:
Office,
Grocery store,
Retail store,
Restaurant,
Movie Theater,
Baseball Park,
Amusement park, or
Gasoline service station
BUT...due to the high the unemployment rate at this time it is very difficult for minors to get a job.........the jobs that use to be held by teens and retirees are now being taken by adults trying to support their families.........

Fast-food and grocery stores are willing and able to train new employees but........................
Minors tend to have many issues that affect their ability to work such as tardiness, absenteeism, and numerous schedule requests, poor work-ethic etcetera.
I am NOT implying you will have those issues but the fact that many your age do makes it more difficult for you to get an opportunity to prove your worth.

Most businesses are individually owned and operated so it is the owner’s policy and past experience with minors that will determine if they will hire you. Apply everywhere you can, the worse that can happen is they don't hire you.

Businesses such as Publix, Kroger's, Food Lion, Sonic, Chic-Fill-A, McDonald's, Winn-Dixie, Krystal's, Dairy Queen, and Burger King along with smaller local businesses that are in the same genre tend to hire those your age.

Remember just because they legally can hire you does NOT mean they have to hire you or they will hire you. A lot depends on the employment outlook in your area, and the past luck (good or bad) the employer has had employing minors.

you can also do "casual labor" (work for an individual in their home) such as
yard-work,
pet-sitting,
baby-sitting,
tutoring,
running errands,
house-cleaning, etcetera...
and all of these are "REAL' jobs.....
