Any advice on applying to Polytechnic School Pasadena (or similarly competitive schools) kindergarten?
Ok, I know this is crazy but It's like applying college for a 5 yr old kid. We did the tours, checked around, and decided that we liked Poly a lot. So we are going to apply. We heard it is really hard to get in w/o legacies or connections. Anyway, my daughter is extremely bright but sometimes a bit shy. This was because she was bullied by a classmate during her 1st year at pre school. She is getting more social now but my husband thinks it needs to be mentioned on our parent statement so in case she doesn't open up during her play date or the ILS test. Any advice? Thanks in advance.
How can I get accepted to Cal Poly SLO? What kind of test scores, specifically? I'm taking the ACT and SAT. I'm a senior.
At Cal Poly, your declared major matters quite a bit. The acceptance rate for the school as a whole is around 30% but it is below 10% for most engineering majors. If you plan on majoring in engineering, your SAT score probably needs to be well over 1400 (new SAT), or the an equivalent ACT score, to have a good chance of being accepted. One of my good friends applied under mechanical engineering and was wait listed despite being a top three math student in my class of 500.If your major is not in the college of engineering, an SAT score in the 1300’s or higher will probably suffice, I applied under physics (college of letters and sciences) with an SAT scores of 1410 and 1490 and was not only accepted but also wait listed for the Honors Program. A handful of non-engineering students from my school were accepted with SAT scores below 1400.Unlike most high-level colleges, the Cal Poly application has no written component, so your test scores are especially important. There is a section to list extracurriculars but it seems like they focus mainly on your academics.Remember that grades and course difficulty plays a larger role in the admissions decision than test scores (although there is usually a strong correlation between the two). Cal Poly expects mostly A’s in challenging classes. The more APs, IBs, honors, etc. the better. Also, as a CSU, Cal Poly is required to accept a high percentage of California residents making it significantly easier for California students (like myself) to get in.Good luck,-BowenPs. Cal Poly is an awesome school. The location is great, the campus/atmosphere is even better and it is probably the best education for the price in the US.
Can I do polytechnic after class 10?
I think i am very much qualified to answer this question. Yes, you can but only if you have your priorities clear.I did polytechnic right after class 10. It will be little difficult cuz you will be learning a technical curriculum right after school. But nothing to be worry about. After my diploma i got into Assam Engineering College through lateral entry examination.Right after 8th semester i got placed in ONGC as an assistant technician ( i can apply for this post as i have diploma). But after 3 months, in a campus interview (the campus interview was held a bit late in our college) i got placed in OIL India ltd ( as an executive). So i quickly resigned from ONGC and joind OIL.So if you are confident enough and have your priorities clear you can do polytechnic right after 10. Its a road less taken, but definitely one can take it .All the best.
Do you think I'll get into Polytechnic School?
Hi, I'm applying to Polytechnic School in Pasadena for the 9th grade. Do you think I'll get in if: -My ISEE's were 96 for verbal, 99 for Reading Comprehension, 99 for Mathematics achievement, and 99 for Quantitative reasoning. -I go to Sierra Madre, I'm in all honors classes (Geometry in 8th grade) with a 4.0 GPA. -I've been in girl scouts since 2nd grade -I've been in Math Field Day (Math Competition for PUSD) and placed 1st twice and 2nd once in all four years that I've done it. -I've done service club in 6th, 7th and 8th -I'm half Chinese and half Caucasian
