Can I Be Towed For Not Having My Car Plated On Time

Driving motorcycle home after buying it with no plates? [NH]?

People keep the plates because they are no good as soon as the vehicle is sold.

The rules:
Actually, they are laws.
You cannot ride without plates. If you get stopped, you have an unregistered vehicle.
The police are required to have it towed. You WILL be fined.
The tow yard will not release it until it is registered.

Proper documents: You need a registration - it may be a 20 day temp.
Hopefully, you will get the title when she buys the bike.
Take it to DMV and get a temp plate.
If no title, there needs to be a "blue sheet" (VIN verification form).
This form can be filled out by any police officer or licensed inspection station.
Take the completed form and the Bill of Sale to DMV and get a temp plate.

Enjoy the holiday weekend.

Edit: Insurance not required, highly recommended.

Can i be ticketed for having unregistered cars in my driveway?

I have a driveway that I park my three vehicles in. Two of the cars are never used and do not have registration or tags. The cars are not on a public street, they are in my driveway.

Anyways, a city code officer (or something like that) stopped and told my wife that the vehicles cannot be there. My wife told the lady that they are on private property. The lady said it does not matter because they are in public view. My wife then told her that one of them is on non-operational status. The lady said it does not matter, that the cars cannot be in public view.

Does anyone have any knowledge about this? Can they do this? She said she is coming back in a week and if they are there she is going to give us tickets!

Any knowledge on the subject appreciated. - Thanks!

When you have a new car with no license plates, can you get a parking ticket?

Yes you can. The car is cited under the vin number for the violation. Let me go further because I've been asked this particular question regarding brand new vehicles.“Can a person get a parking ticket for NOT having license plates on a brand new car?”The answer is yes. Before you jump and scream “WHAT!”, read the following…Under California Vehicle Code Section 5202 (a) “……A special permit issued in lieu of plates shall be attached and displayed on the vehicle for which the permit was issued during the period of the permit’s validity.”Therefore in California when you purchase a vehicle a temporary “sale” ID which indicates the vin number, the purchaser's name and address (which is normally folded exposing just the vin number to protect the buyer's identification ) is afixed on the inside of the windshield. This permit would be valid 90 days from the date of sale in which you would have received your new license plates in the mail which varies from as little as 2 weeks to no more than 90 days unless the dealership screwed up.To elaborate further you can receive a parking ticket for not having plates (CVC 5200) on a brand new vehicle “IF” you remove the temp id paper from the windshield OR it isn't being displayed. Having a brand new vehicle isn't enough merit on its own to validate not having plates because under CVC 5202(a) it still must display a “special permit” to be exempt from citation for plates. Also “after” the 90 days you can also receive a citation for plates because then the permit is no longer valid since you should already have the license plates but haven't installed them for whatever reason. Dispatch can verify the date of when the plates were issued.By the way, don't cover your vin number to avoid getting a parking ticket. Under CVC 22651 (j), a vehicle without any visible “identification”,..ie license plates, temporary id permit and/or exposed “full” vin number, are subject to immediate towing. You might think you aren't getting a ticket because there's no id for the officer to get but that's where the tow truck comes in. The tow driver opens the vehicle for the traffic officer who gets the vin number and still issues the citation and then tows the vehicle under CVC 22651 (j). A complete, 17 character, vin number identifies a vehicle so partial vin numbers are also subject to towing.

Are you forced to display a number plate if your car is parked?

As others have noted, your car has to have current registration displayed if it’s parked on a public street. If it’s parked in your driveway or otherwise on private property, you usually don’t have to have a current registration (e.g. license plate and current sticker) displayed. There may be local ordinances that require vehicles on private property to be registered, but this would be the exception, not the rule.

Texas Consequence for Hauling Trailer with no License Plate?

I have a 12 x 5 foot open utility trailer. Bought it new for $680, have a temporary tag until Nov. 2011. I'll only be using this trailer 6 times a year and was wondering what the consequence is if I got caught driving with an expired temporary tag.

Would I get a license plate at the DMV? Would I have to have insurance on the trailer? Or just the vehicle that will be towing it? Should I even go through the trouble of getting a plate?

Can police have your car towed that is parked on your street outside your house with expired tags on it?

The critical part of your question was that the Tags are EXPIRED on it. Here in the UK if ANY documentation is not current AND correct, the Police have legal power to have it towed. This is anywhere on the highway the vehicle may be, in use or parked.UK regulations are you need to be licenced to drive the vehicle and the vehicle must have Insurance, Vehicle excise duty (road tax) and an MOT (warrant of fitness). If any is expired or not in accordance with the requirements of use (the driving licence must be current, in the right address, and used in compliance with any restrictions, EG learner licence). If any is not valid they are legally able to seize the vehicle at the roadside, and will. You say the car is parked on the street. Any street in the UK is highway, so all documents MUST be current.
