Why do 60 year olds get asked for ID in the US to buy alcohol? Why is my passport sufficient means to prove my identity to enter the US but not to buy alcohol there?
In many states if a store employee sells alcohol to an underage buyer, both the store and the employee can get into legal difficulties. Fines can go into the thousands of dollars, and in some states people can be jailed. Because of this many stores have a policy of requiring ID for anyone who looks younger than some arbitrary age. Other stores have just decided to require ID from everyone. This is why 60 year-olds get asked for ID in some places.In the USA, people are not required to have a passport. And since it is a large country with all sorts of interesting areas to visit, many Americans never get a passport. As a result people serving you in a store are quite likely to have never even seen an American passport, much less a foreign one. When their employer tells them to check ID, they equate that to a driver’s license. Generally a manager should be able to clear up the issue, as long as your passport has a date of birth.Regarding the date of birth, that may also trip up an employee. If they are not aware that the rest of the world uses a different date order they may see a day-month-year date format as an indication of an invalid ID. In the USA we use month-day-year, so we don’t see any number higher than 12 in the first place. If you were born later than the 12th in a given month it could trip up your clerk.If you saw a date like: 3–15–1955, you would probably read it as the third day of the fifteenth month obviously an incorrect date. Whereas an American seeing 15–03–1955 will read that as the third day of the fifteenth month.
Can you buy alcohol if your ID still says under 21 because you turned 21 just recently?
I turned 21 about a week ago and I would like to go to the store and buy some vodka, but I still have my "under 21" ID. I'm pretty sure they will ask me for my ID on the store since I don't look 21 but I show them my ID and show them my birthday will they accept it? I know it's a dumb question, but some people on stores are so dumb. Thanks.

hi im turning 21 in about a month n i was woundering if i could buy alcohol , my id is a drivers license indiana im curently living in IL also my license is vertical (the one thats under 21) i think n i heard my friend thats 21 got refused liqr cus they scanned his id and they said it has to be horizontal , my qeustion is will if get refused when buying liqr at just certain places or like can i buy from cvs jewel or a liqour store or do i need horizontal drivers license?

Do i have to be 21 to buy margarita mix if it doesnt have any alcohol in it?
no y would you have to be 21, the law is you cant have **alcohol** until Ur 21, not that u cant buy something that u n=might later mix alcohol into, and how should they know what ull do with it, so my answer is no!
Can you use your under 21 drivers license to buy alcohol on your 21st birthday in MA?
I have a drivers license in MA, obviously am not 21 yet but am going to be soon. Do I need to purchase a seperate liquor license before my birthday or can I use my original drivers license the day I turn 21? I live in MA so if someone from MA can answer this question or someone who is knowledgable of these rules.
License says under 21 but I am 21 can I still buy alcohol?
I go to school out of state and I am turning 21 while out of state. The license I have says I am under 21 but I will be 21, will I be restricted from buying alcohol even though my birthday is on it and proves that I am 21. I won't have a chance to get it changed until 2 months later while home on break. I live in GA, but I go to school in IN. Also, the license does not expire.
Some questions about the Horizontal Mass ID and buying alcohol when you turn 21?
I will be turning 21 this August. Obviously, I am interested in the drinking aspects. I have the vertical license which I have learned recently, does not let you buy Alcoholl even if your 21 in Mass. So I have some questions. 1) Can you renew your license at the RMV before your 21st birthday and receive a horizontal ID? I know it takes 7-10 business days so if I try a week before will they send me a horizontal license a few days after my birthday or do I have to wait until the actual birthday? 2) When I am 21 and I am waiting for the above license, would it be illegal for a friend to buy me alcohol? I'll be 21 but I won't have the right ID. Will either of us get in trouble?
Can you buy alcohol with a temporary license in Massachusetts?
My license expired Wednesday because I turned 21, I didn't have issues getting drinks that night but the bar tender said she wouldn't have been able to serve me after my birthday. I’m going to go down to the RMV and renewing it but will I be allowed to use my temp license at a packie? I live Boston so it can take up to two weeks to get a new license. On temp licenses it says “This is not a valid form of ID” I don’t have any other ID though.
