In fact, I have in the past looked at monthly discounts and calculated out that it would be more cost effective if I buy a one month PS plus subscription buy a game and then cancel my PS plus subscription, than merely buying the game at the standard price (FYI this is how I bought NIOH and the Dark Soul series).I have also been able to keep all those games and I still have and play them.Now, all that free stuff is different. Treat that stuff like a Netflix subscription. You get it as long as your subscription holds but once you cancel your access to content is gone.

I think you are confusing services. If you buy a game from the digital PlayStation store, you have a PSN account. That's where your purchases are tracked. An add-on to your PSN account is PlayStation Plus, which I think you are asking about. This is a $60 a year add-on that lets you play online if you have a PS4. Without Plus, you can still buy the game and play it locally (not sure if there is local multi-player) if you have a PS4. If you have a PS3, you don't need Plus to go online. You didn't specify on if you had PS3 or PS4, so that's why I explained it both ways. So if you want to go online and you have PS4, you have to have to subscribe to Plus.

You now have to download the PlayStation app on your phone or tablet. Create a new account and then log in to that account on the app on your tablet or phone. Then click on PlayStation plus and it will show you the option to get the 14 day free trial. This is the only way to get it without the two or three month option attached to it. It works just like the old way where you just click on it and agree and Walla you have ps plus for 14 days no other questions asked! :)
