Can I Canect A Ethernet Core From My Lap Top To My Desk Top

Ethernet cable works with desktop pc but not my laptop...Why?

The router may still expect the first computer to be there and is not recognizing the IP address and/or the MAC address. Try this on the laptop to reset the IP address:

1. Click the Start->Run menu item.
2. In the text box, enter

cmd

and press Enter.

3. In the “Black Box”, enter

ipconfig /release

and press Enter.

4. Then enter

ipconfig /renew

and again press Enter.

Hope that helps.

Connecting laptop to Internet with Ethernet cable?

I have a regular desktop computer with a modem, highspeed internet, etc. I want to get my laptop to connect to the internet with the Ethernet cable, but whenever I plug the cable into my laptop it doesn't work. Can anybody help? ALSO! I can't get a router over here since I'm just visiting. It would be pointless. I just want internet this one time.

My desktop pc has internet connection through LAN, is it possible to access internet from my laptop through cable?

In this scenario, the desktop has nothung to do with your laptop being able to connect to the internet.See,you state that the desktop is connected via lan, basically, ethernet. So that's one port on yohr router/switch populated. Then, you can get another cable, connect it to both your laptop, which has to have an ethernet jack, and to your router, which will then provide internet access to your laptop, independent from the desktop.

Can I connect a desktop and laptop with a RJ45 cable to share resources? Is any driver program required?

Yes you can. You will need a crossover RJ45 cable (usually a green colour). You don't need any driver program. Other ways to network two computers together can be found here:

Do I connect my Ethernet cable to my router or modem?

You connect your PC to the router, but your router also needs connected to the modem via an “Ethernet” cable. Ethernet is in quotes because technically Ethernet has nothing to do with a cable, Ethernet is a structure for the data going between devices, including a header and footer. This structure is not bound to a specific type cable or even type of connector; it is possible to send ethernet data over a coax cable, a usb cable, a phone cable or many other cables (although distance limitations will play a big factor). With that said the masses have full fledged adopted to the term “Ethernet Cable” to specifically mean a cable with RJ45 plugs on it to connect networking devices; this has become so mainstream that even us IT/Networking guys will typically just use that term.Modem (at least a modern modem) = a device that converts the signal from the ISP into ethernet. This is not just as a cable, but also completely changing the protocol/structure of the data. Thus the modem is needed to convert the data from the ISP into something the computer can understand.Router = a device that has one input and at least one (usually 4–8) output ports, and most all consumer/residential grade routers have a wifi access point built into them. The router is needed to be able to take that one connection from the ISP and allow multiple devices to share it.Modem/router combo = a single box that does both.So here is how you should have things wired:You have your coax/phone/fiber cable from your ISP that will go into the input of your modem.“Ethernet” cable connecting modem output port to WAN port of router.“Ethernet” cable from LAN port of router to computer/networking deviceIf you have an additional switch, then you connect it to LAN port on router and then connect your devices to the switch.

If I have a ethernet cable connecting my router to ps4, can people still use the wireless connection?

If I want to make my ps4 wired because wireless lags. Can I just connect it using an ethernet cable? Its based ontop of the router ( on a second level). If I do this will my wireless connection be affected? Can my family members still use the inernet wirelessly whilst I use it wired? Is it possible?

I have a desktop connected to a WiFi router through cable and a laptop connected over WiFi to the same router. How can I transfer data between them?

Some routers have a setting to isolate the wifi side from the wired side, and/or isolate all connections from each other. Additionally either or both may be running Windows Firewall, or some other firewall software, designed to block network communications. So the very first step is to make sure you have connectivity, using a command line tool called ping.exe. To use it you’ll need to know the IP address of the other PC, which you can find by running ipconfig from a command prompt on the other PC.Once you know the IP of one, go to the other, open a command prompt and type:ping [IP address of other PC]If, instead of “Reply from…” it says “request timed out” then you do not have IP connectivity between the two, and everything else you try to establish a connection will fail. If pinging succeeds, you can move on to sharing, etc.
