As of July 2013, is Quora dying?

No it’s just changing again.   IMO dying is a noticeable drop in overall activity.  Seems to me Quora is about as active as it’s ever been.    The “death” listed in Brian’s answer is mostly the evacuation of a large clique of wealthy people which actually happened three years ago.  And honestly that clique had very little of importance to say.   Except when some of them met at Bin 38.   That was as good as Quora ever got.   The “death by Indian” point is ridiculous.  I have been on Quora since the start and never had any problems with Indians or their answers.   Nor was I ever forced to read any of their answers.   In fact I am not convinced Quora wouldn’t have done a much better job of achieving its original goals if it was an Indian only site at first.    As for the “concentrated hotbed of startup advice”.  Trust me VCs don’t have very much to say.  95% of them are trend chasers not visionaries.   Being wealthy doesn’t grant you vision.   Heck I am not even sure it granted many of those folks perspective more less vision or insights.  And that can be verified through “social proof”.   The entrepreneurs had even less to contribute beyond complaints.  The lawyers were just lawyers.  ETC.  The “death” Brian describes is the death of a chance to be a part of wealthy peoples primping.  Some folks really got a charge out of it but if you missed that – you didn’t miss much.    The Q&A on Quora is the same as it ever was.  And like always its quality begins with us – not someone else.

How many months current affairs is required for upsc?

If you’re going to give the Prelims in 2019, then you should strongly focus on the Current Affairs from the period after 2018 Mains (October 2018) and until 2019 Prelims (June 2019).So that’s about 8–9 months of current affairs. Yes, that’s it. That’s all you really should focus on.I know 8–9 months seems like a very short period of time, but think about it. The GS paper of Prelims 2018 had 100 questions. Combine that with the UPSC Mains papers of 2018, which will have 4 GS papers, each having 20 questions. That’s a total of 180 GS questions for the year 2018. Don’t you think that 180 questions is more than enough to cover all the important world/national affairs that happened in 2018? Of course they are.Hence, for Prelims 2019, you don’t need to focus on current affairs that happened before Mains 2018. Also, if you study past UPSC papers, you will see that UPSC VERY rarely repeats questions. Almost never. Hence there’s no point in spending time studying current affairs of last two years or so.Make sure that you’re thorough with the CA of that 8–9 month period. Instead of trying to read a large volume of CA, going back many months, read what’s truly important - the Budget, Economic Survey, India Yearbook, important schemes introduced by the government etc.If you want to ensure smart study and preparation of current affairs, check out UPSC Pathshala: #1 Online UPSC Coaching Institute in India3+ hours of Current Affairs videos are added on the online portal every week, covering all the important topics. With these videos you need not waste time in memorizing several newspapers and magazines.

Are Ashok Leyland shares good to buy for long term?

Price of Ashok Leyland has increased almost 6 times in past 11 years from 23 in 2006 to Rs 114 in 2017. It has not been even a ten bagger (increased 10 times in past 10 years). Let’s try to understand the financial of the company in short details. We will study the standalone of the company:1) Inconsistent Sales Growth: Sales has increased at 11% in past 10 years and it has decreased 3 times in past 10 years. I think its a bad sign as the sales growth depends upon the market condition of demand and supply. I prefer company growing at 14% in past 10 years without any drop as compared to previous year.2) Poor Operating Margin and Net Profit: It has a poor operating margin in past 10 years which has resulted in poor net profit in past 10 years. It shows that company is not generating enough money from its core operation and in turn money left for shareholder is also poor in form of net profit.3)Tax rate : Tax rate paid by the company is also poor and fluctuating throughout the decade.Investor should check with the company if it is receiving any tax benefits from the government. Tax rate is good sign to judge the management of the company.4) Poor ROE: Return On Equity of the company is poor at 13%. Its return you get on your invested amount. Anything above Bank FD is good, but as I am taking extra risk, I look at anything above 15% as good and above 20% great. The range varies from investor to investor.5) Reduced Debt: The company has reduced its debt over the years from Rs 4600 Cr in 2014 to Rs 2100 Cr in 2017. Its a good sign as company is looking to reduce its debt and interest cost associated with it.I hope these points helps you as a long term investment. Personally I don't see it as a long term investment opportunity over long term looking at the financial. You can subscribe to my website Yash Birajdar- Stock Market Investing Made Easy.Happy Investing!!!!!
