Are B.Tech graduates eligible for the UGC NET Exam?

Hello,No, The graduate candidates are not eligible for the UGC NET Exam. The NET exam is conducted for the Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship Award. There are two exams conducted as CSIR NET and UGC NET Exam. The main difference is that CSIR NET exam is conducted for the science stream candidates while UGC NET Exam is conducted for more than 90 subjects. The graduate candidates can apply only for CSIR NET exam and candidates need to complete the post graduation within two years. The Eligibility criteria for the UGC NET exam is as follows:Educational: You must have completed post graduation degree with minimum 55% marks from recognized university.Age Limit: There is no age bar for lectureship while candidates must be below 30 years for JRF.Check the eligibility criteria from official website to know more about the exam.

What is the difference among CSIR, JRF, NET, and UGC NET?

Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) is a premier research organisation which has been ranked among the world's largest publicly funded R&D bodies. University Grants Commission (UGC) is a statutory body of the Government of India that is responsible for coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of university education in India. Both the educational bodies conduct National Eligibility Test (NET) exam every year. The exam involves two certifications - NET (LS) and NET (JRF). The cut offs for NET-JRF are much higher than that of NET-LS. Qualifying for NET-LS will make you eligible to apply for teaching positions in Indian colleges and universities while qualifying JRF provides multiple benefits, such as:i) Eligibility for lectureship.ii) Exemption from PhD entrance exams.iii) Full financial support throughout your PhD.

When applying for the UGC NET, if I apply for both JRF and lectureship, but got cut off only for lectureship, will I be eligible for lectureship? Should I be getting the JRF cutoff also, since I have applied for both?

That's one of the most confusing things while you apply for UGC NET.To put it short and simple…UGC NET JRF is a ‘TAKE WHATEVER YOU CAN GRAB’ exam….So if you have applied for JRF along with Lectureship and you are stuck between JRF n Lectureship; you get what you have achieved. To understand it,NET is for being a lecturer while JRF is for fellowship. So its like - while you apply - you claim additional benefits. The additional benefits may or may not be given to you, but the basic thing is yours if you fall in the list.So don't worry, you are eligible for being a lecturer if your in merit of NET. JRF merit is in addition to the NET list. And in my view, you should always apply for both.Hope this helps.
