Will DMV mail license before 21st birthday?
Hi, I'm from New York, and in 2 weeks, I'll be 21, I'm so excited :) Last week I renewed my license at the DMV and the lady was really vague about when it would be sent in the mail. I've looked online and some people have said it wouldn't even go in the mail until after my birthday, and then others have said differently. I'm wondering if people, in New York especially, received their updated license before their birthday or if they had to wait. I have a passport to use as identification, but I go back to college on my birthday, so it'll be a pain if my parents have to mail it.
How do you get your Senior Drivers License on your Birthday- turning 17 tomorrow?
The New York DMV website below says this: If you have a Class DJ junior license, and you complete a high school or college driver education course, you can change your Class DJ junior license to a Class D senior license when you are 17 years old. To change the class of your driver license, you must have a form MV-285 driver education certificate issued from a DMV-approved driver education program. You cannot use another certificate. If you do not have an MV-285, the DMV automatically changes your license from Class DJ to Class D on your 18th birthday. The DMV automatically mails you a new driver license that indicates "Class D". You will not get this document faster if you fisit a DMV office. On your 18th birthday, your driver record indicates that you are a Class D driver. There is no need to wait until you have your new Class D driver license before you drive as a senior driver. You can drive as a senior driver on your 18th birthday. Give your MV-285 driver education certificate to the DMV examiner after your road test. The DMV will update your driver record and will automatically issue a Class D photo license on your 17th birthday. You will receive the new driver license in the mail. There is no fee when you change the class of your driver license by this method. Your driver license record will show that you are a Class D driver. You do not need to have your Class D document to drive as a senior driver. You can drive on your 17th birthday. Note: If your 17th birthday occurs on a weekend or a state holiday, your record is updated and your Class D driver license is issued on the next business day. --- or --- If you did not give your MV-285 driver education certificate to the DMV examiner, you must go to a DMV office. Bring your Class DJ driver license and the MV-285 certificate to a DMV office on your 17th birthday or any following day. Complete form MV-44, and pay the fee of $12.50. You receive a temporary Class D driver license, without a photo, at the office. The DMV mails your Class D photo driver license in approximately two weeks. You must make the change. If you have an MV-285 certificate and a Class DJ driver license you do not have Class D driving privileges. You must change your driver license from Class DJ to Class D (as described above) in order to get senior driving priveleges.
If your driver’s license has your birthdate on it and says underage, but you are now 21, can you use that ID to purchase alcohol?
Yes, at least that is true in Massachusetts.If you are under the age of 21 when you receive your drivers licence, it is printed “sideways” (long way up/down), whereas anyone who is 21 or older gets a license that is printed in “landscape” (long way side to side). Therefore, it is immediately obvious if you Used to be underage. However, since the drivers license is good for 5 years, anyone who go their license at age 17 would keep their license until they turn 22.Therefore, the person selling alcohol merely has to read the date of birth on the license to check that you are 21 or older.NOTE: Some states will not accept an out-of-state drivers license as proof of age for the purchase of alcohol……………………
Did you get your drivers license within a few days of turning your states legal age?
14 days. On August 4 I turned 16. I rode my bicycle to the DMV and signed up for the next available written test to get my learner’s permit, August 10. My grandmother drove me to the test, which I passed, so she let me drive home. I got out of the car, got on my bike and drove to the DMV to sign up for the next available driver test, August 18. Took it and passed. The next day I had my first lesson for driver’s school, which I took to reduce the insurance premium my father had to pay.
If your driver's license expires on your birthday, is it considered expired?
I totally agree with the given answers,with one caveat; the cop wants to be an ass.On my way home from work a cop pulled me over for not having a front license plate, as required. (Yeah, BIG crime, right?). He noticed that it was the day (my birthday) that my license expired. I told him that I’d forgotten that today was the expiration date, to which he responded “You’re not going to make it to the DMV before it closes today.“ He gave me a ticket for not having the front plate, and driving on an expired license. “Happy birthday” he smirked as he handed me the tickets. He was being an ass.I went to court and said (did not have to prove) that I had put the plate on the front, and showed my renewed license. Both tickets were dismissed.
Junior License in NY, can I drive fully on my 17th birthday?

The birth date on my state ID is incorrect, what do I do?
When I got my state ID(NY) they screwed up my DOB and put 12/23/1988 instead of 11/23/1988(this is awhile back).What do i do The DMV screwed up my DOB when I was getting an ID. I used it just once on a trip to hawaii when they tightened up the security. Now I want to get my permit and I'm not sure what's going to happen if I go in with my ID. How can I get this fixed?
I lost my driver's permit, can I still take the test to get my driver's license?
Yes u can they should b able to look it all up at the dmv or they should b able to get u some kind of paper or something saying that u have it buy u really shouldn't need it to take ur test cause they should b able to look it all up if u just tell them u misplaced it someplace
ID Still says UNDER 21?
I am turning 21 soon, so my license will expire. The DMV sent me a notification to renew my license and I went into the DMV and did so. Except, they sent me another UNDER 21 ID. What now? I already paid $50 and my friend said the stores and bars won't accept this ID even when my B-day hits and I'm 21- because it says UNDER 21, even though I won't be and it isn't expired. What do I do now? Will bars in NY still serve me?
Dmv nys junior drivers license question?
OK hi I'm 17 going to be 18 in august I'm going for my road test in Syracuse in a few days (BTW I live in Syracuse). Im out of school and currently not working, but I was wondering am I going to be allowed to drive alone at all with my junior license? And also when do I get my senior license and how do I go about getting that thanks for ur help :) 10 points to best answers!
