Do you agree that “essential industries” should be re-nationalised in the UK?

I refer to such things as: Power generation and distribution and supply, gas distribution and supply, water supply, telecommunication and rail transport of people and freight.

Why should our taxes go towards paying shareholders and bosses enormous sums. I would rather my taxes/gas bills/rail fares were re-invested in the said industry to improve service and capacity AND that rates for energy are set at realistic rates at a NATIONAL level.

I am sick of people saying for example that British Rail was a money pit – the subsidy given to private railways is far in excess (even taking into account inflation) of that given to British Rail – and the service is now worse and un-integrated.

The industries I have mentioned are essential to the life and continuity of the country and are too important to be run as cash cows.

Thoughts please.

Do some companies actively recruit disabled people?

I don't know about actively recruit, but there are certainly companies which are very accommodating and welcoming of people with disabilities.

My boyfriend is physically disabled (in a wheelchair) and works for a large IT company (everyone here would have heard of them) in head office, and they are absolutely fantastic to him.. any modifications he needs done, they pay for, they have an onsite OT for him if need be.. they are very accommodating of his needs, and it's not a secret.

All companies claim to have equal employment opportunities, but I don't think that's the case.. there are always going to be a few bad eggs.

Good luck finding work anyway!

Gordon Brown has condemed strikes,Just how out of touch is he?

well ordinarily i don;t agree with strikes, often are counter productive, but in the case of the British jobs for british workers debate currently raging, i believe they have a genuine grievance.
In construction, and if we have so many on the dole, ones who are skilled, and need jobs then why are foreign companies bringing in foreign workers. I am sure that the rot set in ages back, why for instance are call centres located in India, South Africa and not here in UK, can only assume that we must have got something in return, but i think Brown has more than lost the plot. He seems to be selective in his britishness and jobs for Brits, perhaps its time for a well times riot

Ben J

another foolish person who doesn't know the country or its people. We are specifically talking of many of our highly skilled workers, this encompasses Doctors, nurses, construction engineers, and in manufacturing, and i am sad that many of these people are being left on the shelf, due i might add not to the fact they are lazy, incomepetent, but to the fact we have now been part of the EU, and they are telling us what we can or cannot do in many of our industries, and that whether we like it or not have to take on foreign workers, part of the EU deal, so don't keep on downgrading our workers, 30,000 lost retail jobs from Woolworths, and then many retail outlets have gone bust, putting hundreds of thousands out of work, they can look, but tell me if i am boring you, but where do they go for work, and if more Spanish, italians, french come here, where the hell do our people get jobs. Pisses me off this does.

Are the Brits excited about Donald Trump's visit planned for this July?

Sadly, few people are excited about Donald Trump’s visit to the UK for all the reasons mentioned below - he is not a man to be admired, respected or liked; in fact, I can’t think of a single positive word to say about him. For most of the time he seems barely literate and has trouble stringing more than a few words together - and most of those he does manage to get out make little sense to the listener. He speaks without engaging his brain and forgets what he has said moments later, so could well be inherently dangerous; he also tells extraordinary lies, lies that can easily be proved to be lies (his victory, voting numbers, numbers attending his inauguration - on, and on and on they go). But, and this is a very big BUT, he is still leader of the American people and, like it or not, more than 57 million people voted for him to be President (OK, that’s only 28.5% of the eligible voters but it’s nearly the population of the UK).So, disliked by many - if not most - in my (reluctant) opinion, he should still be accorded the respect that his position holds, as representative of the USA.The irony of it all is that, in the past, many cruel dictators have come to Britain - and have been accorded a State visit - yet no-one has demonstrated against them. Since her accession, on the recommendation of her government of the day, the Queen has met, and hosted - among others - Nicolae Ceausescu (Romania), Bashar Al-Assad (Syria), Mobutu Sese Seko (Zaire), Robert Mugabe (Zimbabwe), Nursultan Nazarbayev (Kazakhstan), Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Idi Amin (Uganda 1971).And now we have Trump, who is a sleazeball; who, most of the time, behaves in an extremely unpleasant way yet, as far as I know, has not killed or tortured his enemies, nor gone to war on his people, or done any of the terrible things all of the above have done - and yet his visit is polarizing the nation. For what it is worth, I don’t think there should be any demonstrations against the man, whatever sort of character he has (and I can’t stand him, even his voice makes me cringe), because he is President of the USA and, as such, deserves respect.
