Can I Get Some Advice On College

Any advice for a college interview?

I'm doing a college interview for Brown University with a Brown alumna this Saturday and I want some advice. What type of questions should I expect? What tips do you have for me to be successful?

Also, I heard that when they ask to interview a student, it means they like what you see on your application. Is this true?

I'm kind of nervous and kind of excited. I just want to know how to make them like me and hopefully help me get an acceptance.

The interviewer is from the class of 1973 and has a Ph.D. which I want to get as well (Since I want to go into the medical field.) so I guess my interest in the medical field brings me on the good side of them... lol!
:/

Help.

What are some college advice?

First find a room mate with whom you are compatible. He/she does not have to be your best friend, but you need to be able to get along. Then go to every class! Do every assignment! Do not put off studying until exam time. Keep up. If you have trouble with something, go see your professor.Get involved in student life. Do not just study, but do things outside the books. You will meet do many interesting people if you join a couple of organizations. Network. You never know who you may be able to help or who can help you later when your are out in the real world. The person sitting next to you could become a CEO of a major corporation, a senator, or an ambassador. Be nice to everyone you meet!Make time for friends. Meet them to study or to have a quick bite, but do not isolate yourself. College is such a fun time, but it can be very stressful. You need friends to share your anxieties.Do not get in debt. Pay your bills on time, and do not over spend.Get the most out of every class.

What advice would you give to a college student?

Bunch of good answers here. College life is probably one of the best times of your life. It's a time when you get to learn and grow. You get to meet new friends and possibly discover yourself in a new manner. The best advice for college life is to just go out there and have a good adventure. College life precludes real world in most of the cases for many people so it is good opportunity for them to experiment and have fun on the way. While it is necessary that you concentrate and do well in your studies- it doesn't mean that you dont enjoy the remaining aspects of being in college. Participate in social events, form a new club, go for a trip with your friends- just don't limit yourself. College life doesn't come back again once it's gone. But this doesn't mean that you should get wasted completely and lose track of everything. Become responsible and live college life to the fullest so that you have loads of memories to cherish in the future.

Any advice for a "mature" college student?

First of all good luck! I was a single mother and had to go to college while working at a full time job. It is hard but you can do it. It paid off very well for me.

1. Sometimes you will get very frustrated. If you feel overwhelmed just remind yourself how good it will be at the end.

2. It will be very hard on your kids, but make sure to pay enough attention to them. Remember you are not the only one who is going through a big change.

3. Keep positive attitude. Things always have a way of working out. Especially for those of us who works hard.

4. Don't regret any decision you make. At times you will hesitate. It is normal.

5. Set goals and do your best to accomplish them. even if things change make new plans.

6. Don't give up. Remember everything is for your kids.

7. Take one day at a time.

I wish you the best luck :)

If selection day means counselling then please keep following things in mind:Select a college which is one of Central IHM.Preference must be given to top most college however one must check previous year closing rank of that particular college in respective category.Select IHM based on placement. E.g.: IHM Pusa New Delhi is best in placements.Select IHM which is near to your hometown. But this must not be a restriction if you are getting a good college.Learn to get out of your comfort zone. And at last All the best. :)

Advice for new college students, PLEASE!?

Remember that this class is designed for people exactly like you--it is entry level college material. It will be more demanding than high school, but presumably you are more mature and more focused on your studies.
Everyone else in the room will be in a similar situation. Some will be young like you, some will be coming to this as a second career.
Now for some survival tactics, take a notebook, a couple of pens, and the textbook if there is one. Try to arrive a few minutes early and sit in the front row or in the center row directly in front of the instructor. Studies show that people who sit in that "T" are more likely to make the highest grades in the room. Avoid sitting in the back or along the sides of the room if at all possible, those same studies show those people make the lowest grades in the room.
Take lots of notes and later the same day, RE-WRITE them. Go through your lecture notes and as you see your notes, you will recall additional things the instructor said that perhaps you didn't write down the first time. Your second set of notes will likely be longer, but more complete. Highlight the most important points. Committing things to memory is a matter of repetition. Re-writing will greatly enhance your understanding of the material and help you when it's time to study for tests.
Keep up with the reading, and talk to your instructor if you have questions. Consider starting a study group if that is helpful. Good-luck.
