Can I Get Wifi Without A Pc And Without A House Phone

How do I use a WiFi router without a phone jack?

I don't even know if that's possible. I could have sworn my new house had one but I guess not. Am I able to use the router without one or do I need to get one.... Which I really can't afford right now (holidays)

Can you get WiFi without a phone line?

Yes, it all depends on the provider and the type internet you’re requesting. If you’re enrolling in a contract with DSL internet, you’ll have to also either have an existing landline or have one added in. If you’re subscribing for fiber, then the landline is typically optional. The ISP of my current home had a great package deal on home internet (fiber) and a landline. I never use my phone, but said since I would spend $20 less per month if I incorporated a landline, I opted for it. My previous home was the opposite. The package deal with that ISP was also fiber, but has an additional $7 charge to incorporate a landline, so naturally I decided to stick with a simple internet plan in lieu of the package deal with landline since I had a cell phone. So take a look at the type of connection you’re subscribing to as well as the options and packages available for you. Eventhough you may not want a physical phone line, you may save cash having a phone line installed in your home. Just unplug the phone after the installer leaves or keep it plugged in but turn the ringger as low as possible if not off.

How do I get wifi in my home without a phone line?

A T-moble broadband USB adapter is designed for use on one computer via a USB port and software drivers.

A wireless router is designed to have a Ethernet WAN input, generally from a DSL or cable modem. Even if the modem has a USB port it will not work with a cellular USB dongle. The USB port on some routers is designed for sharing a printer or USB storage device on the LAN.

You have a couple of options.

The best is to obtain a wireless mobile hotspot from T-mobile such as a MiFi. These devices function as a cellular modem and wireless router. I might point out that the range is usually less, the MiFi is about 30 feet.

You could also have Internet connection sharing set up on a PC with the USB dongle and connect this computer to a router. This is somewhat complex to set up and the PC would have to be on all of the time for it to work.

If you are primarily using this connection for home use:

Mobile Broadband plans are for travelers or people often away from home. For home use stick with DSL or cable Internet.

I personally use both. I use mobile broadband from Verizon when I'm away from my high speed Cox cable Internet at home. I f you run a business or need Internet access anywhere, this is a good option. The cellular Internet is convenient, but sucks compared to a high speed cable or DSL Internet service.

Mobile broadband is a paid service available from cellular phone providers such as Verizon, At&t, Sprint, T-mobile, Cricket, etc. You can get on the Internet with a mobile broadband plan anywhere that there is 3G or 4G cell service.

Most cellular providers limit your monthly bandwidth to 5GB or less for a fee of $20 to $60 depending on the device and charge hefty overage fees. The companies that don't charge overage fees (Cricket, T-Mobile) , throttle your Internet to a crawl when you exceed the 5GB limit.

From T-Mobile Site:
"Your data session, plan, or service may be slowed, suspended, terminated, or restricted if you use your service in a way that interferes with or impacts our network or ability to provide quality service to other users," http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/cell-phone-plans-detail.aspx?tp=tb1&rateplan=Even-More-webConnect-Overage-Free-Plan

How can you get WiFi without internet?

You buy a wireless router and power it up. By default, most home wireless routers are manufactured with WiFi enabled. The WiFi network name (SSID) and pass phrase should either be on the router’s label or in the user guide. There should also be a password that will allow you to log on to the router’s settings and change them, including changing the WiFi name and encryption details. Changing WiFi settings is best done from a PC connected by Ethernet. If you change WiFi settings over a WiFi connection and make a mistake, you may not be able to use the WiFi until the error is corrected. The ports on the router that normally provide the connection to the Internet are left unused.

How do I get on the Internet or WiFi without a router?

It’s hard to make sure of your meaning with this question. Here’s an answer that is technically correct: It is possible, but probably not with modern equipment. To get on the internet, you need a contract with a service provider, a modem, and a computer. You will need to connect your computer to the modem. A router is usually included with the modem, because it allows more than one device to share the internet connection. But it is not required if you don’t need to share the connection. If you want to connect with a phone, you will need WiFi. The router/modem usually has a WiFi access point. WiFi requires a router, because there is a built-in assumption that the WiFi signal will be available to more than one device. So, you can connect without a router provided you have a service contract, a modem, an Ethernet cable, and a computer. This is how dial-up connections used to work. The modem either was inside the computer, or connected with a serial cable.*However*, modern computers all use Ethernet, and assume a router will be available to set important Ethernet parameters. I’m not sure how one would get around this. Connecting without a router using modern equipment would be difficult at best, and maybe not possible. I don’t know of any Ethernet modem that doesn’t include a router. If that doesn’t answer your question, here’s an alternate answer. In the US, you can get on the internet for free at most public libraries, many stores, and some restaurants. Just connect your device to their public or guests WiFi. Sometimes their WiFi will require a password. Sometimes you will have to go to their site and accept their terms and conditions. Retail outlets sometimes limit the amount of time you can be connected. In this case, the library or store provides everything you need except the computer or phone (including a router). If you don’t have a computer, libraries will usually also make the computer available for free. None of these options will be fast enough for gaming, but it doesn’t get any more free than that.

How can you get WiFi without a computer?

Yes. However, you’ll need to expand on what you mean..Almost everything these days has the capability to receive WiFi signals from computers, phones, consoles, fridges, TV’sand peripherals etc, etc. The list goes on. It all depends on what you want WiFi for? If it’s for internet access without a PC then you can use a modern Smart TV or console with a KB.

How can I set up WiFi without a computer or Ethernet?

All you need is a device with an Internet browser and a way of connecting it to the router (or other WiFi source). Since you have excluded Ethernet, this will mean connecting by WiFi. Providing the factory default is for that router to have its WiFi enabled by default. You might have to reset the router to its factory state if its WiFi has been turned off.All routers I have set up in the last few years have all had their WiFi enabled in the factory default, and have the default WiFi pass phrase printed on the label. The factory default IP address for configuring the device will be in the manual.Connect your device with a browser to the router over WiFi. Log in to the router’s configuration settings and make what changes you need. Note: if you change WiFi settings and make a mistake then you will have to reset the router back to its factory state and start again.Although it is generally quicker to use some form of PC and an Ethernet connection, I have set up most of my routers over WiFi. I have also done this from a cell phone or a games console.

Help with chromecast and pc without wifi?

I recently purchased a Chromecast. Since it's so new, the guys who make useful software are just now figuring out how to do something cool with the device. Until then, you can stream You Tube videos, Netflix movies, and stuff like that. And, if you use Google's Chrome browser you can send whatever's on your browser to the TV. You may have to wait a while before there's an app the streams your personal collection of movies or pics to the TV.

To make this thing work:
1. You need a Wi-Fi router (and Internet service, of course)
2. You need an HD TV with a spare HD port. And possibly a spare electrical plug nearby.
3. The "initiating" device does not need Wi-Fi capability -- but it doesn't hurt.
4. You won't believe this darn thing is only $35 after using it!
