Can I Have Compensation For Stolen Phone

A cab driver stole my phone, what do i do?

i took a taxi to a local mall to meet with a few friends. i i used money to pay for my food, but didn't realize i didnt have any money left for my taxi. So when i took a taxi back home, i freaked out because the driver is expecting to get paid but i had no money.

my point is i didnt have money to pay for the fare, so i was afraid, was he going to call the cops or something was all i was thinking. so to "make sure" i wud pay him asap, i physically handed my phone to him, and he agreed that if i stopped by the office the next morning with the fare, i wud get my phone, etc.

(now, understand i don't have a car) so before i paid for a cab to get my phone, i made sure i called first. now a freakin week has gone by and i havent got my phone. i finally spoke to the driver i gave it to and he told me he dropped it by accident and he is sorry and that he gave it to a friend to take it to the tmobile store in the mall. I asked him was he sure and he said yes. so i take a taxi to the mall and i go to every single cell phone place, and the all told me no.

im not trying to be a *itch about a cell phone, but it pisses me off that i did the "right thing and bartered instead of running off and i get screwed over. I GAVE IT TO HIM, i didnt forget it in the backseat or nothing like that, i actually handed it to him. i had to pay 249.00 for a new version of that phone plus i had to get a new sim card. is there anything i can do? i gave it to him just to reassure him i wud pay. its not like i live in NYC or chicago with thousands of drivers, there are literally just about 10-15 drivers so i just made sure i had his name.

i want to forget about it but i have school work saved on the memory card, family pictures that can't be replaced. what should i do? what can i do?

Is it time-wasting to report your stolen phone to the police?

While it seems like a waste of time and pointless, it’s typically a requirement in order for your device insurer to replace or refund the item. That said, it’s not a waste of time if you’re hoping to obtain a replacement device or other compensation. If your roughly $800 device was stolen, report it to the police. If the device was simply misplaced and ultimately lost, report it to your carrier and insurer as such.Typically lost and stolen devices are covered by the insurer. You’ll make your claim, pay the deductible, and wait for your new replacement device to arrive. If you’re like me and not into paying $9 per month for insurance, plus a $200 deductible, you’ve likely forgone the option of insurance. If this is so, simply report the item to your carrier so they may add it to a black list making it a bit harder for someone to re-activate and use. From there, use the $200–400 you’ve saved by not having insurance and purchase a (second-hand) replacement.

What would you do if your phone was stolen and the thief sold it?

Then i will buy the new handset.I will use the lost mobile number again.

Can I legally claim compensation from a thief who stole my Android phone, destroyed the SIM memory card, and erased the phone content before handing it over to police? What should I do, as I lost photos and videos of my kid?

Hi,Yes you can take the thief to court and sue, though, and understandable so, your angry that you lost your precious photos, the thief will be prosecuted accordingly and as part of the sentence may have to pay you compensation. Unfortunately this will be a nominal amount which would be more for loss of earnings or replacement phone etc (as appropriate). . It will unlikely cover your loss of memories or data. This is very difficult to compensate appropriately, your feelings will mean its unlikely that money will replace this loss.In reality what level of money compensation would satisfy your loss? The thief could defend the suit stating that you should have ensured that you precious data was backed up. The thief's intent wasn't to destroy your data and it's not as yet treated as contributing factor. (this is why there is not a charge levied against the thief for destroying your data).I presume you have checked your Google account to confirm if you had backed up your data? (this is something that you would normally turn on during the first set up process), have you checked Google Drive? If you did not backup and you have tried a file recovery program which was unable to restore any deleted data, then unfortunately getting money compensation will not change anything. (other than a short term high). You can use file recovery software that can retrieve deleted data or damaged storage systems.Chalk this down to a bad experience, and learn from it.Always fully back up your data, preferably to two different storage sources. (Cloud storage /USB stick /SSD drive /PC - hard drive /CD/DVD). Use more than one cloud storage service to spread the risk of losing your data (I use Google backup services /Google Drive + Microsoft One, I use Dropbox for documents, every month I backup my photos etc to a USB stick & also use my smartphone manufacturers backup service)This may seem overload, and may seem like a lot of work, but once set up everything automatically backs up.I know that this is not helpful in regards to your loss of data, but will ensure that it doesn't happen again. So yes you could raise a case against him, but in my opinion it is unlikely to succeed, and you will still be angry.Peace

My property was stolen from my friends car. (insurance question)?

I suggest you go find a real friend, im sorry but this one is a loser, no one with one brain cell left, leaves the car unlocked, and AMAZINGLY your stuff comes up missiong, and his apparent lack of compassion, and apathetic behaviour suggest he is a classless A hole. The insurance company will not pay off . HE STUPIDLY LEFT THE DOOR UNLOCKED. with no damage to his car, the insurance company will know what happened. they will not pay off for electronics that are not part of the stereo system in the vehicle. Homeowners insurance may let you file a claim, but unless you have reciepts for pretty much everything stolen of value (they wont count make up or cash) and unless the electronics were new, or almost new, they pro rate and its pretty ugly, pennies on the dollar. I guess if you want to find a guage to your value as a friend, you need his help because its his unsurance, and truthfully, I would love to be looking into his face at the police station when you file a theft report. In order for the insurance to even consider your claim as valid, you will have to go down and make a report at the police station ( people go do this sometimes ) honestly I still think dummy leaving the car unlocked will be a problem from the STUPID standpoint. he is probably hoping you just go away at this point. that sucks, that was an expensive lesson, but you know now, leave your nice stuff and money at home, take the bare essentials, and find friends smart enough to lock the damn car.

Is USPS responsible for my stolen parcel?

Yes they are responsible, but they won't admit to it.

You have to file a compliant, and document what was lost. Then you have to wait and wait with no guarantee of resolution or compensation.

My dad lost his Motorola RAZOR phone. The mailman left it at our door step when we were not home. It disappear, and we filed a complaint and that was it. Every time we called to asked if there was any processing or review, the postal service gave us the run around.

It's just like what happens when baggage handlers steal your stuff from your suitcase/luggage . You complain to the Airline company, but you NEVER get your stuff back. :((

Next time leave a BIG NOTE/SIGN that says: Do not deliver boxes or parcels when no one is home, leave a note, and we will pick it up at the post office station.

Has the Indian Police ever been able to find a lost phone after registering a DDR? It’s been a year, and they said that it will be found when someone turns it on. They never filed an FIR for it, just a DDR, so there is no judicial investigation.

I recently lost my Nokia Lumia 730 on 25 October 2015 while i was getting out of the train at Thane station.By the time i came to know that my phone was stolen, the train was gone.I quickly reached home and went to the nearest police station, but the officer told that this comes under RPF (Railway police force) so they can't do anything. While i was getting out of the police station, an old constable called me and asked about the incident, after narrating the whole story he also instructed me towards RPF and said don't file just a complain but pressurize them to file an FIR.I reached the railway station to file an FIR with all the proofs i had about my phone.I argued with them for an hour to file an FIR but they stood straight with the complain only.Even while writing the complain myself they made me feel like the theft of phone was solely my fault by saying words like "Whats the need of keeping the phone in pocket, you should keep it in your bag" or "You shouldn't have bought such an expensive phone".When i reached home my friend messaged me, who was in train with me and said that he was constantly calling on my number and had the call connected exactly one hour after the phone was stolen.Next day i again went to the RPF police station with him and said them about the activity of the phone and track the location. But they backfired on me saying that, there was my sim card inserted in the phone so shall they arrest me on the charges of theft.I was really shocked to hear such a statement and was deeply disappointed and leaved the Police station.I still visit them once a week and remind them about my phone, but i really doubt they will ever find it, that was the day i lost all remaining hopes towards Police.

Package stolen from a BROKEN ups drop box???? Help!!?

Im so stressed out and i need advice because ups is not being sympathetic or very helpful.
I sent in my defective phone back to tmobile in their return package with the slip and everything bc they sent me a new one. The instructions said to leave it off at a ups drop box, so i found the closest one to me and did that. This was a month ago and ive been getting texts from tmobile saying that my device hasn't been received and ill get charged $850 if they dont get it. I was so confused bc i dropped it off in the ups dropbox a month ago??? I've been calling tmobile and ups and they say they have no record of it being sent after doing a tracking on it and everything but a rep from tmobile told me to go to the dropbox to see if there's a number to call and i went there last night and i looked at the box and starting observing it and saw that the door where all the mail goes in wasn't fully closed so i pulled it and IT COMPLETELY OPENED!!!! The box was either forgotten to be closed or someone broke into it, which i think happened. Ups said they will have the local care center call me about any info they might have on my package but if they have no record of it then there's nothing they can do. They also put in a claim for the dropbox to be checked. The dropbox isn't in that good of a neighborhood and i dont doubt it being stolen. Im so worried. What can i do? I can't pay $850 when i dis nothing wrong. Isnt ups responsible for not securing their dropboxes?? Im trying to ask tmobile for a compromise where maybe i can buy a used same phone on ebay and send that or something. Please help me with some advice? What can or should i do?? Thank you :(
